I called Disney just a few weeks ago on this. My dd had a heart attack at age 21, and out diets are now, low fat, low trans fat, low sugar and low sodium. I was trying to figure this all out and it was a head ache, so I called the special diet at Disney. And during the conversation, I stated it would be easier if Disney made adult check meals like they do for kids now, I said honestly they are about the right size and they offer everything we need in a meal, maybe add a salad on the side. She said, be our guest and order them at any restaeraunt you like. She said there may be a place or tow in Epcot that will give you a hard time but just ask for the chef. I said really, for the same price, she said yes, if you are not alternating the size of portions or anything you can order any child's meal for the Same price. I went back and researched all the kids check meals, they are all within our diet, they are all between 450 and 600 calories, with low sugar, sodium and fat, if we do not alter them. So we will be eating off all the kids meals, we will get water, and then maybe order a kids side salad once a day. For us it may be a little bland, but they now have fish, and meatloaf and turkey pot pie, it is way easier, than not having to remove 5 ingredients from this sauce because of sodium, or cut the steak in thirds because we can only eat 3 ounces and not 8, or due away with desserts because of sugar. It is also way better than French fires and chicken nuggets like they use to have on the kids menu.
I would say go ahead and order the kids meal, want to have more than a kids portion you may need to ask for more and then the price will go up. Also, since I use to be a vegetarian and still eat a lot of meals this way, I asked about other options, and she said, if an ingredient e is on the menu for a dish, than ask for a chef and they can most likely cook the dish special for you, so if they have chicken couscous and vegetable medley, and you want couscous and vegetables, the chef can make you a special dish and charge you accordingly, she said to me on the phone it would be less than the chicken couscous even though special ordered because they don't charge for the special order only the food and since there is no meat then they can do it for less. Does that make sense. I would look over all the menus and see if there is a combination of something you would like and they can special make it for you, or go with the pasta.
