My DH and I with our family want to book a vacation in Oct 2014. So we would have to book in Oct of this year for the 11 month window . I guess my question is if I bank 2013 into 2014 I would need a few more pts can I transfer before I book and then bank those points into 2014?

Yes, transferred points may be banked. If you have points transferred into your 2013 Use Year, they may be banked. You could also have 2014 points transferred into your 2014 use Year.

Our use year is Oct and your right we would book in Nov. I just want to know if I can get the points transferred after or before my use year begins this year. 2012 pts I will have to rent since our vacation is going to be in our 2014 use year

Yes, you could get them now...you just want to be sure that, even when banked, they will be valid for your 2014 trip.

I was able to get 2012 UY points transferred to my account while I, and the person transferring were still in our 2010 UY. We thought we had to wait, but they said no, and took care of the transfer.

Just remember that the transferred in points retain their use year and are not converted into your use year. For example, if you found a member to transfer points to you and those points were 2012 Dec points, which are good from 12/1/2012 thru 11/30/2013. You can bank those so they would be available from 12/1/2013 thru 11/20/2014 which would when your vacation is planned.

Yes, if you have points transferred into your 2013 Use Year they may be banked into your 2014 Use Year and will retain the original status of the contact from which they were transferred (same Home Resort, same Use Month) and should be valid for a stay in October, 2014.

Is a previous banking / borrowing transaction considered a transfer? Let's say if you bank your 2012 UY points to 2013... but later on decided to get some points transferred to you from someone else to 2012 UY. Can it be still done? Or is 2012UY already considered transferred.

Also, if you cannot finish those 2012UY points, can you still bank them assuming you are still ahead of deadline? Would DVC say that you have banked your own 2012 points before so you cannot bank transferred any more?

A transfer is when you accept points from another member (or transfer your points to another member). Banking and borrowing are separate transactions not related to a transfer to/from another member.

Banking and borrowing have no limitation (except that they can be suspended by DVC) but transfers are limited to one per Use Year (either into or out of your membership).

If you are within your banking deadline, you can still bank points from the current Use Year without regard to making/accepting a transfer from/to another member.
