We're going to disney in less than four weeks:cool1: and not doing the dining plan. Would like to not use a credit card if possible and use disney gift card(s)? Do you think it would be better to have a large gift card or maybe $150 card per day. There will be four of us and I have a $500 redemption card for any extras. Not really worried about the amount but if its better 1large amount card or individual cards per day. Affraid of losing them? But I believe I read the disney gift cards keeps track of your balance? Right? Any comments or suggestions are welcomed and appreciated! Thanks!:confused3

We always just charge everything to our room and then pay off the room charges with our gift cards at the front desk before the end of our trip.

I buy $50 cards at my local grocery store to get money off gallons of gasoline, and took 8-10 cards last trip. Every morning I made sure I had 2, and kept the rest locked in the room safe. That way, I could pay for a little at a time, and didn't have one card for $400.

On one of our trips we had the deluxe DDP and I took a $500 gift card for tips. I didn't want to carry a lot of small denomination cards, so it was easier for me to take 1 card with a big amount on it rather than keep track of several cards. Plus the balance left on the gc was printed on the receipt after each time we used it :goodvibes.

We did almost the same thing with our cards. Based on where we planned to eat I would take a card or two and lock the rest in the safe. You can call the 800# or check online if you aren't sure the amount left on a card. We usually used the cards with a low balance at a snack cart or breakfast in the food court. That way if we needed to pay OOP it wasn't a big amount.

We just did that a few weeks ago. It was great. We did have 50.00 denominations and I do wish we would have used 100.00 ones as it would have been easier for us, I think. I did use the Disney gift card app and it was perfectly accurate.

Great idea. I think I will try that too since I want to "pre-pay" for some of our meals and have been debating about the Dining Plan, but think it will be too much food for us.

Yes, the Disney Gift Card app will keep track of the amounts on each of your cards. However, you still have to have the card number and receipt to have it replaced if you lose it.

If you think you might lose the cards, then I would get several cards with smaller amounts. Otherwise, one card with all the money on there seems easier.

This is what we do as well. It is so easy to just charge with your KTTW card. If you are worried, the Concierge can print your room charge at any time and you can see exactly what and where something was charged and the remaining balance on the account.
Have Fun
