WISH Away The Pounds - Marvelous March Challenge ~~ All are WELCOME!

50sjayne said:
Well I'm down 2 pounds this week. 145. 5 pounds till my tattoo April 16th!
Went and had a consultation yesterday and really like the place and the people. I told them I couldn't have it done yesterday because I needed to lose 4 pounds, (such was the case yesterday) and the guy said if I lost 4 more pounds he wouldn't do it lol. Made me feel pretty good.
So I ate the same things I ate yesterday, drank the same amount of booze, and did an extra 350 calories on the elliptical and was up a pound. It is before my period and I know my water weight is up from the scale but still-- it's so frustrating. I think I get into the thing when I exercise where I just get hungrier and snack more. I did have some wheat thins and cheese late night...

Sorry its frustrating, just hang in there... Not too long and you'll be there!

Anyway - here is a qotd for today:

How difficult will it be for you to withstand all the Easter goodies that the holiday weekend will bring with it? Do you have a strategy?

It'll be hard to stay away from my favorite chocolate goodies. I'll try to have something small, then focus on cleaning the house and cooking Easter dinner.

QOTD Thursday~I love zoos. We have had a membership to Pittsburgh Zoo in the past. We now have a family membership to the NC Aquariums and we use it here in PA and Ohio zoos since it reciprocates at either 1/2 off or free admissions. We also frequent the Cleveland Zoo, Akron Zoo, and Columbus Zoo. Columbus is by far the best zoo. But, I'm pretty loyal to Pittsburgh :)

Ugh. My computer just informed me that it is shutting down in 5 minutes for updates. I'll be back!

Okay, I am back and the computer is all updated lol. So, I hate to do this, but I am going to vent for a moment to explain my absence. I have had a terrible 3 days at work this week. I had such a horrible day in my high school boys room that I almost just quit. The staff that are in the room let the kids do whatever they want. Then I walk in and have to get order established and barely have time for teaching. Then, the 2 staff left me (I have no idea why) and I almost had 2 students fight. I was so stressed. Now, this probably sounds like your typical high school for behavior problems, buuuuuut, this is an ongoing problem and no one in authority is doing anything about it. To top it off, I told my boss's assistant, and he could care less. Another teacher was so upset with everything that is going on that he went to talk to our boss, and he got no where. My boss avoided me all 3 days and I am so discouraged. I have worked at this school for 12 years and have done everything ever asked of me plus so much more. I feel like I am getting no support from the higher ups.

My DH wants me to quit, but I have me and my DSs on my insurance and it's stressful to think about. I updated my resume and cover letter, but there won't be any teaching opening around here. We don't have county schools, they are all local districts. One school told me they had an opening for an elementary teacher a couple years ago and they got over 200 applicants. We live in an area where we have an abundance of college with teaching programs, too. We have been toying with relocating, but it's even more stressful.

So, I haven't been posting, but I've been reading along. I didn't go to the gym this week. I did manage to squeeze in a few workouts at home, but my eating has been terrible. In fact, I'm chalking March up to a complete loss. I'm hoping to get it together for April, though!

Thanks for letting me complain :)

Hi everyone! And sorry that I disappeared yesterday. I had a horrible headache and was barely functioning yesterday. Today is a holiday here in Germany and I am at home, still trying to get rid of the last rest of the headache.

Hope your feeling better soon!! :goodvibes

My scale issues continue. The new one arrived, and I compared the two. Yesterday the new one did show a weight that was 1.5 pounds less than the old one. Today I am heavier on both scales, but the difference is only 1 pound. I am really not sure what to believe. I also am constantly gaining weight. All very frustrating.

That is frustrating. It really makes you discouraged when you keep trying and your body just says.."no... I am not ready to go forward!" Sometimes you just gotta have faith that you WILL prevail and your body will follow suit! Sending you lots of patience.... pixiedust:

You are an amazing person with one of the worlds hardest and most thankless jobs ever! I would be happy to spend my day covered in isolation gowns splattered with (shall we say... bodily secretions) rather than spend an hour teaching high school kids!! :worship:

Good luck and take lots of deep breaths!! You will make the right decision for you and your family. Everything works out the way it should, sometimes we just need to vent to get a new perspective. :thumbsup2

How difficult will it be for you to withstand all the Easter goodies that the holiday weekend will bring with it? Do you have a strategy?

Mine is to avoid temptation. I already got a small portion of my absolute favourite Easter candy. I will get it out on Easter Sunday and will eat it over the next few days without counting it. The whole portion has about 400 calories, so it won't be a huge damage and it is only available at Easter. So it's a treat that I decided to splurge on!! But that's all I will eat - no further candy!

Great plan!! And it makes the holiday last longer!! :rotfl:

As for me, my plan for getting through the holiday is that I moved it to my Friday! I got a small box of Robins eggs & some Lindt chocolate for DD (her fav) that I can enjoy tonight and then get back into action tomorrow! This is of course much easier now that my DD is older. Also I am working this weekend so I just have to dodge the candy dishes at work! :duck:

Best of luck to everyone out there, and have a great weekend!! :cool1:

Good Saturday morning everyone.

I will have a busy weekend. I need to make some homemade bread and a chocolate cake. I have opened just about every cookbook I own to find a recipe for chocolate cake. I will decide later which one to make. It will either have sour cream in it or buttermilk. I think it will be the one with buttermilk so I can use up the container I used last week.

I have been struggling this week with a stuffed nose and sinus problems. At least it cleared out of my ear so that doesn't hurt anymore.

I hope everyone has a happy and healthy Easter

Morning all! Just a quick minute to say hello! I am done with my workout here at the Y and now we need to dash home, shower, and head to MA for Easter weekend. Hopefully DH will do the driving and I'll have some time to catch up with you all.

TTYL................P

Good Morning!!!

Hope everyone is doing well this weekend. Temptations all around us.

My plan of attack is to enjoy but "sample" and then fill up on veggies.

I maintained again this last weigh in which honestly I consider a victory. So for those of you struggling in this month, you are not alone.

Have a great weekend!!!!

I've been gone a lot lately. We've been looking at a new vehicle and when I get a "project" like that I throw myself into full research and obsession mode! Just got a new Honda Odyssey ex-l. Yep I'm living the minivan dream.

I had a slight loss this week but my monthly goal hit about half. I've not been focused and not gotten in the workouts I wanted.

And me and Reese's peanut butter eggs have a bit of a thing going on lately. ;)

I think I might do my smoothies for a couple days. They make me feel good but I just don't have the commitment to do them longer.

Off to the treadmill!

Update on my foot issues. I went to podiatrist today. She gave me a cortisone shot for the nerve running along my toe. In addition she is getting me custom orthotics, gak. I have to get healthy and this is a part of the journey.

Sorry to hear that your foot is still bothering you. My PF dramatically improved when I had the cortizone shot and started using orthotics so I hope you have the same success! :goodvibes You really will be able to walk around pain free someday.

We have a 5k in 2 days, trying to decide if I should do it. DD is doing the 1/2 mile, DS16 and DS11 are doing the 5K. DS12 wants to but he has to pick his pieces to show at the art show so he won't make the start time for the race.
I dunno, I hate self doubt!!

Ok I'm rambling now so I'm going to try to get some sleep.
Night all!!

Sent from my iPhone using DISboards

Can you walk the 5K without injuring yourself? If so, why not? It would be a fun family outing. Is it going to hurt you? Then skip it. Not every race is going to be a PR. I know you can get your mojo back, girl! :thumbsup2

Today (well yesterday evening for all of you) was pretty good. I got through my workout and have stuck to my diet pretty good considering the vat of chocolate treats at every nursing station I pass by!!! Nurses do love their chocolate!! :thumbsup2 But I will have plenty of time to eat chocolate in WDW after I drop a few lbs!! Excited that I joined the exercise challenge for April, already thinking about reaching that goal!! :cool1:

Hope everyone has a great day today!! Back to workfor me.... but since its my friday..... :cheer2:

Take care all!

TGIF! :thumbsup2

Hi everyone! And sorry that I disappeared yesterday. I had a horrible headache and was barely functioning yesterday. Today is a holiday here in Germany and I am at home, still trying to get rid of the last rest of the headache.

Pam, thank you very much for jumping in with the question of the day yesterday!!

I think your Easter plan sounds perfect. I have a bit of my favorite candy and will work it in my points allowance. I'm not going to go through life depriving myself to reach a number on the scale. I can make treats and a healthy lifestyle work together. ::yes:: (even if it does mean losses at a glacial slow pace! :rotfl2:)

Sorry I have not been posting lately... been very busy at work and at home. I have been reading along though! Hope to get a few minutes later this am to do some replying :)

:woohoo: You are almost to goal! Congrats on your new sweet kitties! :cat:

For the month, down 27 since January :)

Congratulations! :cool1: Very impressive!

Jill, so sorry for the tough time at work. It does not sound like a good situation at all. Any change is tough, even good change. Hang in there! :flower3:

Safe travels, Pamela!

Add me to the list of folks who just found March to be a tough month. Between the winter doldrums and a big plateau I just found it hard to be excited about doing any of the things I know need to be done. I am hoping for a better April for sure! ::yes::

Happy Easter all! :goodvibes

Hi Guys

Hope you're having a good Easter - been out shopping this morning (we're 5 hours ahead of you Floridians at least) and you'd think the end of the worl was nigh!!! Shops in the UK have to close on 2 days of the year - Christmas Day and Easter Sunday. Peeps were out today panic buying because they won't be able to get anything tomorrow!!!

Well, I have to say that March has been my best month so far, I set myself a target of 7lbs, and so far have lost 10 (and there are 2 days left!!!) I've been really focussed on the food, and it's showed on the scales for sure. Now managing to get into some clothes 3 sizes smaller than when I started in January.

Got my exam results this morning (14 days early!!) thought it was going to be bad news, but no, I passed the third unit of my diploma. so just waiting for the results of my final assignment, then it will all be over until September.

Feeling really positive, might even volunteer to be coach for a week if I don't need the PM feature to do it (infraction for speaking my mind!! - no PMs for 30 days!!) Going to even try some exercise now my exam results are in as I thought I would have to spend time revising. Got Garmin Fit downloaded to my android, so may give it a go tomorrow.

Hope you're all having a good time for Easter.

I'm sure you could coach even without PMs and a friendly word of advice -- talking about infractions can result in more so live and learn and move on. :flower3:

Sorry I haven't contributed much to the conversation in March. However this group has been a huge support for me. It doesn't look like I will hit my 10 pound goal for March...but it should be close. I hadn't thought about Easter dinner until today tough...that will be a hurdle. However I don't think it will be bad....I've gotten where candy isn't that appealing so I should be good on that (however I will probably have a Reases egg or 2) and dinner shouldn't be bad....so we'll see how it goes. Now I just need to figure out my goal for April. I accomplished what I feel has been a successful March without exercise so adding it in should make a big difference. So maybe I will shoot for 10 again. Anyway.....hope everyone is doing well and has a great Easter.

"It's not perfection that works but persistence." :thumbsup2

I LOVE this, words to live by!

QOTD:

Do you have an exercise routine or do you just do whatever you fancy whenever you have time?

I do whatever I can fit in! I do try to get to Zumba every Sat with my friend for our zumba and a movie date, and until the season ended I was doing strength/floor exercises every Mon while watching the Biggest Loser. But mostly I just fit in what I can when I can! Seems to be working, I will hit 1600 mins of exercise this month (I am also on the March exercise challenge board).

Oh - and one question for advice: How do you determine your goal weight? Looking at the BMI there is quite a scale of weights which are considered healthy, so which weight in that scale do you pick as the one?

I don't know! I have a goal in mind... 159 lbs which will put me at a healthy BMI but I guess we will see what I feel like when I get there...

I always say I want to get down to my drivers license weight!! :rotfl2:

:rotfl2: Me too!

Do you specifically watch how much fat you have in your diet and where it comes from?

I don't because I follow a low carb diet. It took some getting used to and I am still somewhat fearful of "too much" fat. I do think I should start watching the quality of fats I eat, I think they are good because mostly my fats come from nuts healthy oils like EVOO or safflower oil. But I don't watch this on a daily basis...

Long time no post!
For all of those who remember me from the last two challenge, hello!!

I hope you are all doing fabulous and still getting fit! I hope I can come back to WISH after school ends this semester, the past year has been the most stressful ever, tons of classes and lots of work.

Just thought I'd update some of you who were so encouraging to me last year. I have gained back a couple pounds this semester but I'm working on losing them now; I have my 3rd half marathon in May. I applied for the Disney College Program and have been...ACCEPTED for merchandise for this Fall!! That means I'm heading to Florida for 6 months in August!! I also just signed up for the TOT 10 miler in October, my first Disney race, so maybe I will see some of you!

I realize the accountability and encouragement here was extremely helpful and I've missed it. I've barely had any time this year so only 6 weeks and I will hopefully be able to come read some!

Have a great day!! :)

Congrats on the race and the DCP!! pixiedust:

My first mini-goal was about 165-ish and I wanted to achieve it before a trip to Disney and I did it. But I KNEW that wasn't my final goal. I always thought that my final goal might be 140... but when I got within 5 pounds of that number, I knew I could go lower and still be healthy. When I got to 135 I stuck with it for a while, but I was still contemplating going just a bit lower. I finally decided to aim for 129, which would make it exactly 90 pounds lost. It took quite a bit of time and work to get to that number and I discovered pretty quickly that I was unable to maintain it. So I bounced back into the low 130's and have stayed there for a few years. I can generally maintain under 135 without too much struggle. Sure, I'd love to hit 130 and stay THERE, but I am not willing to go to the extremes in diet and exercise it might take.

Looks like we are getting a new fridge, so I need to research my options today. My current fridge was purchased when we built the house 19 years ago and while it still runs fine, it has a lot of other issues (broken door shelves, broken fruit bins, missing freezer shelves). I have lived with these issues because I am:

#1. cheap.

#2. unwilling to send a big item like this to the landfill unnecessarily.

#3. did I mention I was cheap??

But DH got a work bonus and we need to pick a "prize" and one of the things available with the "points" he got was a wide variety of refrigerators! This seems like the most practical thing to "buy" with the points, since they don't convert to Disney Dollars OR to college tuition money! :rotfl: He got a batch of these points a few months ago and was kind enough to treat us all to our choice of things from the catalog. DD and I both got Tiffany jewelry, DS got a PS3 game system and DH got himself an Ipod Touch. While the cash would be MOST appreciated, the gifts are really nice too.

For those who remember my rant about the roof a while ago (shingles flew off during a wind storm), the insurance company actually accepted our claim and they are paying for a good size portion of a new roof! We have our check (which I still need to cash) and the extra deductible money set aside and the roofing guy we contracted with is coming out today for a final "look see" and is scheduled to do the work next week! So YEAH for a new roof!! And double YEAH that we don't have to pay for it all OOP!!

Off to make beds and hit the scrapping table! I will workout while DD is at swim tonight.

BBL to chat...........P

I am hoping to be like you ultimately regarding goal weight!

Congrats on the new fridge! Very exciting, and :lmao:
on your "cheapness!"

As for QOTD, I generally try to follow my carbs more than fats. However I do try to limit my animal fats, but still prefer real butter to a chemical mixture that looks like butter, I just use a smaller more appropriate portion size. Also I never eat a 2TBS serving of peanut butter, but will have 2tsp instead. I use EVOO instead of a PAM type spray, etc... I also never get "fat free" anything, mainly because the carb count goes way up when they try to get the same "mouth feel" that fats do. I have "light" mayo or yogurt instead, because the fat free stuff always taste metallic to me.
Hope you all have a great night!!
:cool1:

Ditto!!

Looks like we are missing a QOTD for today, so here is a substitute! (Inspired by the teacher room lunchtime conversation!)

Substitute QOTD Thursday, March 28, 2013:

What is the BEST zoo you have ever been to (other than DAK, of course ;))? What makes it great?

The Phoenix Zoo for sure! It is voted one of the best zoos for kids in the US and for good reasson. They of course have all the normal things like the petting zoo and the carousel, but also have caverns the kids can explore (which have running water creating a wet play area during teh hot months -which is most of the year in Phoenix!). Plus they have a Monkey Village where you actually enter the spider monkey enclosure and they play all around you!

Granted, I would love to visit thesan Diego Zoo and I think that would become my favorite! We will someday... it is only a 6 hr drive away.

How difficult will it be for you to withstand all the Easter goodies that the holiday weekend will bring with it? Do you have a strategy?

Hope you are feeling better!

As for the QOTD, I think I weill be ok... I have found that I don't really like a lot of candy after not eating them for so long... At least not enough to outweigh the guilty feeling. And as for dinner, my mom is making the ham and I bringing the sides and dessert. So my plan is to bring things I can eat (greens beans with bacon, roasted cauliflower, and a sugar free jello and whipped cream mold for dessert) along with ham. Plus I am bringing bunny buns and carrot cake cupcakes just because I like baking and everyone else can enjoy!

So sorry you are having a tough go of it, I certainly know how it feels to be frustrated at a thankless job and want out! I think you will make good decisions for your family, just give yourself some time to really think about what you want your future to look like...

I've been gone a lot lately. We've been looking at a new vehicle and when I get a "project" like that I throw myself into full research and obsession mode! Just got a new Honda Odyssey ex-l. Yep I'm living the minivan dream.

Wow! Congrats!

Thanks for the advice Lisa, I won't mention it again. I just didn't want to volunteer for something if I didn't have the right functional bits to do it!!

Ended up doing the race this morning. I ran when I could and walked when I had to. Came in dead last, well 4 walkers were behind me but they peeled off. But I finished and I PR'ed. 40 minutes and 35 seconds, 13:32 pace.
There is some serious motivation when you have a cop car tailing you!!
DS16 also PRed at 18:40, came in 9th over all and 2nd in his age division. DS11 ran in 30:27.

I did what I wanted to accomplish, I made my knee hurt. Sounds odd doesn't it?? But it hadn't hurt in quite a few days and I have a Dr appt Monday so I wanted to mark where it hurt so he could see it. It's very specific.

It was nice finishing as having a lot of friends cheering me on at the end.

Oh and it was uphill, both ways! Lol that I didn't know or I probably wouldn't have done it. So I'm kind of glad I didn't know.

Congrats! :cheer2: You did great amd accomplished what you set out for... Both finishing and hurting :lamo: And uphill both ways? Craziness, you should be proud :)

Inspired by you all talking about exercise, I'm going out in the lovely british sunshine for a walk around the park.

Been on the scales this morning and I finish March at 209. I set myself a target of 7lb off, but actually lost 10, which I believe is 143% of target.

Will check back in later to let you know how I got on. HAPPY EASTER everyone.

Wow, you are brave.:thumbsup2 One of these days I AM going to do these races. Good for you.:goodvibes

Well, I manager 3.78km, which is apparently 2 miles, 614 yards to you guys!!!!

Took an hour and 5 minutes, but that was mainly because I stopped to feed stale bread to the ducks, then walked around the animal enclosures feeding the parrots some peanuts I 'happened' to have in the car!!!

There were a lot of families out in the park enjoying the spring sunshine, but it's still only 2 degrees here! When I got back home I fely inspired to go outside and fold the tent, the canopy and the groundsheet that we used a couple of weekends ago so that they all fit back into their original bags.

Might even go out for another walk after lunch if the sun stays out.

Happy Easter to all of you!!!

And a huge Congratulations to all of us for keeping going for another month during the weight loss journey. If you have made your goal or not, at least you are still here, trying every day to make the best choices possible. And that is the only way to acchieve the goal we have set us!!!

Not sure whether I am still coaching during the Easter weekend - but I guess I am (at least I offered to that a while ago). So, very sorry that I did not make it onto the DIS yesterday to give you a question of the day. First I was still suffering from my migraine, then I had to go into work (I kind of was on call), then had to run errands and finally started to feel better in the afternoon and then had plans to meet some friends in the evening. I had about one hour at home and had two options: Do my Ripped in 30 DVD which I have been slacking with over the last couple of days or go online. I picked the exercise thinking that all of you would understand that...

But here I am now, enjoying a lovely quiet Easter Sunday, backing some Easter bread (a sweet yeast loaf) to take to my parents later this afternoon. On Friday I started a new project: trying to convert my trip report from my 2010 trip to WDW with my sister into a photo book. I am already looking forward to working on that a bit more today. I am afraid it is a project that will take me a long time as I am still only at our first night at WDW and it was a 11 day trip!!

So, here is the question of the day:

Looking back at March, tell us one thing in your weight loss efforts that you are proud of that you accomplished that is not about the pounds you lost.

My answer is that I finally managed to eat a healthy breakfast on a regular basis. I have struggled over the past months with getting out of bed early enough to have breakfast at home, but I tackled that and got into the habit of having just a basic müsli: It's a mix with different grains and some crunchy granola, I add berries (using frozen at the moment which I thaw in the microwave) and milk. And I have some Earl Grey tea with it. Puts me into a good mood every morning!
