I'm confused, banking, borrowing and use year.

Plan on making reservations for March 2014 BWV can I borrow from 2015 Use Year or am I technically borrowing from 2014 since the trip is before June?

Your March 2014 trip is in your June 2013 use year, so you can use banked 2012, current 2013, borrowed 2014. If you don't have any banked 2012, you would have 100 2013 + 100 2014 to use.

Forget about calendar years with use years. You get a whole new calendar with DVC Use Years. In your case, your year starts in June, so every June you get a new portion of points. You can bank the year before or borrow the next year.

Currently you are in your June 2012 UY until May 31, 2013. On June 1, 2013, you start your June 2013 UY and it ends on May 31, 2014.

Thanks! So I could book 4 nights at the 11 month window and then hopefully book the 5th night on June 1, 2013 (by borrowing the remainder of what I need from 2015). I would be 3 months late from the home resort open book period but still before the 7 month window, correct. Also staying at AKL so I should book a back up there in case I don't get the 5th night at BWV. As long as the points I use for the back up night weren't banked or borrowed they can be returned to the use year they came from without penalty, if the 5th night at BWV is available, correct?

If you are traveling March 10-March 17 2014. You can call/go online April 10th and book as many nights as you can afford for the 200 points you have access to.

That is all you have until June 1 2014 when you will be able to borrow 100 points from the 2015 UY. Since your trip will be over by then it does not help you for this trip.

You have access to all of your 2013& 2014 point as the reservation date is what everything runs off of. If it was May 15, 2013 since the travel date is in your 2012 use year you would not have access to 2014 use year point. But since your travel dates are in your 2013 use year you can use all your 2013 & 2014 points.

You can only go borrow one year ahead. So for reservations on/after June 1,2013 you can borrow from June 2014 use year. 2015 will not be available to borrow until June 1 2014 or for reservations taking place after that date..

You can use the 2014 points for your reservation because it takes place during the 2013 use year. You are booking during 2012 use year but that does not matter, when the points are used matters.

Always look at the use year that applies on your date of stay. The use year of your date of stay is considered current year, no matter when you make the reservation. You can borrow from the next use year or use points banked from the prior use year, again based on the date of stay.

Where would those points be coming from, though? You will not be able to use your 2015 points for a March 2014 trip with that June UY. They can be pulled back to start in June 2014, but that's as far back as they can go, whether it's 11 or 7 months when you book.

Unfortunately, there are only seven GV at BWV. It would be an extreme longshot for them to be available at seven months out for early March.

I think where you are getting confused is between the calendar year and UY. You can not borrow the 2015 UY points for your trip because your trip takes place in your 2013 UY (even though it happens in the calendar year 2014).

2015 UY points can only be borrowed for trips that take place in your 2014 UY--June 1st, 2014 through May 31st, 2015. It doesn't matter when you call. It is all about the time the trip happens.

Here is the way I figure it out so not to be confused--I figure out the UY of travel and then I know I can use banked points from the previous UY, points from the UY of travel, and borrow points from the UY after travel. I can do all of this at my 11 month window.

I have not really ever had to borrow and thought I was always using the current UY when booking but it seems using this manner of calculation I am ahead of myself on usage; where I thought I was kind of behind. So I am going to Aulani 10/22/13 is that 2013 UY since it is after June, correct?
