I got three visits with my two this week: Monday, Saturday and today (Sunday). Reggie was waiting for me at the gate of the gelding paddock each and every time -- waving his nose for me to please hurry!. I'm so glad both for his friendly gesture and for his being by the gate. He spared me from having to wade across a very muddy paddock given recent rain and snow.

Easter was a serious pill-bug. She is showing me lots of attitude for my having gone off on vacation: rearing, pouting, pulling, rolling, stomping, etc. It has taken three very solid sessions of groundwork with her to rebuild our relationship, regain the trust/respect and to for her to find her brain. The good news, we've covered quite a bit in these sessions and I'm once again seeing a thoughtful, thinking, playful horse. By mid-session today, she was going nicely playing "follow me" at liberty in the arena: walk, trot, circle and backup. She is is still distrustful of backing through obstacles (specifically gates) but offered some very lovely sideways at the rail. I'm hoping to soon get the same w/out having a rail to follow.

Most importantly, I'm hoping she keeps her sensible nature and doesn't kick the farrier when he visits on Tuesday. (Ugh. Yes, she was that disagreeable this weekend ... I'm worried.)

Oh, oh, oh -- we were supposed to tell you stories that would make you smile. Back to Reggie for a bit ...

So, we had snow on Friday evening and very low temps all through Saturday. After our workout, I was grooming Reggie inside an open barn. The ranch workers were clearing snow off equipment and moved a flat trailer, used for moving hay, to face the sun hoping to melt about 3" of snow accumulated on that surface.

Reggie saw the movement out of the corner of his eye and grew very restless. It appeared, from his viewpoint, like a giant mirror being moved and reflecting light in bright flashes. Very scary!!

I led him over to investigate. He grew very tall and started bouncing a bit like Tigger (sproinggggg!). Eventually, after 10 minutes of pacing and showing skeptical glances, he found courage to touch the strange, shiny, white, shimmery platform with his nose. Ah-ha! It is good! Reggie found bits of hay leftovers sitting under the snow. With that discovery, the scary white platform became his immediate BFF and he worked to clear the snow and polish off the free food. LOL -- what a goofy gelding.

Oh thank you for making me laugh telling me about Reggie aka Tigger He sounds alot like Michelles Ivan Are all geldings typically goofballs ? I'm thinking not just like all Mares aren't moody handfuls...I get Easter giving you the business due to going on vacation , how DARE you Did you consult her first ? You know its all about her
:rotfl:

I don't think you should be worried about the farrier tomorrow it sounds like you got things back« on track..no fear

yesterday was a very good day my friend & his 2 daughters came, made a big difference in horsekeeping I swear Maxine was smiling The best part was I got to hug her & she gently put her head in the good shoulder I have only been able to snuggle with her at the fence since getting hurt, I didnt want to go in by myself in case I lost my balance that would be a bigger problem

Had a pretty rough night so rescheduled phone until tomorrow since thats bad day will pm #

Have a great day all Ruthie

well I just wanted to tell you that I have felt your good wishes and prayers
I also thank my good friend Ruth (who doesnt go by Ruthie and I dont go by Ruth) for letting you all know what happened Its been a rough go since it happened 3 am Jan 29

I wasnt ejected from a car I was thrown from the back of a golfcart at work
Driver going too fast it 'fishtailed' found myself airborne and landed face first on asphalt tumbled & then landed again hard on my back Never so scared in my life
Miracle no facial bone breaks no internal bleeding no broken vertebrae did fracture right shoulder pain has been excrutiating

Food always makes scary things better. :rotfl:

so yesterday help arrived a lot of people had out an SOS out there and we're going to be fine One of the angels that showed up is a vet that lives about a mile from me
& she also runs a horse rescue group When this is all behind me I told her I will gladly pay it forward & join her any way I can in that endeavor

still in so much pain I could scream nothing seems to help meds just make me tired & stupid feeling :(

Howdy! Hey, Ruthie -- I've been thinking about you and keeping your name lifted in prayers.

I'm presently sitting in my truck parked at the edge of the gelding paddock. It is pouring a yucky mixture of rain with snow. The poor fellas look miserable but are amusing themselves with feed.

I think I might actually *drive* to the mare motel to visit Easter. (How lazy can I get?!)

Hope you have all the strength, patience, peace and even JOY you need today! Gentle Hugs!

hi all well that was quite a picture you painted & made me laugh
(ouch) thank you all for prayers I feel them & remember your
kindness when I start to get discouraged Last week I started
walking 'funny' for anyone old enough to remember Walter Brennan
the old man on The Real McCoys sort of like that lean to right lean to left
a real hitch in my giddyup I was afraid that a fracture
was missed in my hip or leg Thank God no but muscles
pretty torn up which is causing pain & odd gait

On up side had shoulder X-rayed Thurs (36 day at that point I think)
& fracture is healing nicely I just feel like I've aged 20
years since end of Jan

Every Sun angels come to horsekeep so no worries

Hi Ivan

Ruthie

Hey, Ruthie!

I've been thinking about you often and keeping you remembered in prayer. How are you healing? Are you straighter than your last report?

This past weekend was lovely in the San Diego mountains. Rode Reggie bareback out on trail and he chose to offer quite a bit of trotting. I sat it well -- but am still quite sore. He was a delightful ride - lots of power, no wimping out, no pokey. Sometimes he asks me to dismount when approaching a downhill bareback -- this time he only suggested that I "hang on!" as he plowed through the downhills quite bravely on his haunches. Nice!

Easter is returning to her formerly pleasant self. I took both horses out for a long tail walk on Sunday navigating the tall spring grasses. We had to stop for a quick "grab and go" every so often but it was a pleasant walk all the same.

Turkey hunting season has started and there were lots of gun shots ringing through the hills. I ride on private property with "No Hunting!" signs posted ... and there were plenty of turkeys hiding out on that property. They spooked the horses pretty good once or twice. ;)

Hope you are feeling better every day!

I got so lost in your post about the ride and then taking the horses out Oh how I wish I could have been there with you Sounds lovely to get away and just be with them (and the turkeys of course)

No haven't been walking right yet and have alot of pain down the whole side
The shoulder is healing nicely (on the 29th it will be two months) still painful when doing repetitive motions and horrible when I first wake up and "forget" you know reach for the alarm or go to toss back a blanket Yooouch !!!

Dr sent me for 2 MRIs last week first would last 30 mins second 20 mins I only lasted about 15 mins and we got no further I had some claustrophobia in there but the worst was keeping the arm and leg in one position, both started to tremble. Tried my best to control it but couldn't. Tech suggested we reschedule & put me under anesthesia.....uh no ! never going to do that :sad2:

Dr did finally find a med that is helping w/pain, with no adverse effects, no physical therapy yet, just light exercises on my own I see both Drs next week We'll see....thank you for the prayers, they are helping and I AM improving :thumbsup2

I rarely go to the barn on winter mornings. Last week, it was daylight and above freezing, so I decided to go with DH. I walked into the barn and asked, "did you leave Vegas out last night"?

DH: "No..of course not."
Me: "So, where did you put him?"
DH: "In his stall."
Me: "Well, he's not there."
DH: "He's IN his stall."
Me: "Uh, no he's not."
DH: "YES, he IS."
Me: "Oh, NO he IS NOT."
He races over, and says, "he's NOT here!"
Me: "(duh, not like he's hiding..)" :lmao:
DH: "OMG! what the..?"

About that time, Vegas walks into the barn, looking for his breakfast. Reno (our stallion) had opened the gate (in Vegas' run), let him out and it closed back.

Really, like I'd overlook an 1100 lb. gelding? :rotfl2:

Hi ladies..I have been a long time lurker to this board, and I wanted to wish you all a happy Easter

These two are father and son....so alike in many ways. Reno probably thought, he was doing Vegas a favor. :rotfl:

They are "Playboy's Night in Reno" and "What Happened in Vegas".
