As big of a deal as Disney made about the new finale including Zebras on Kilimanjaro Safaris at Animal Kingdom, the Zebras were quietly removed from the attraction recently. Disney has sited “acclimation” issues for the animals, deciding that thew new home just wasn’t working out. Some insider reports claim that the zebras were troublesome and would constantly block the vehicle path or bite each-other and attack vehicles filled with guests. Whatever the reason, they were removed and will be replaced with Addax:

But what an embarrassment for Disney. The company that prides itself on it's omnipotents fails again. But wait, the apologists will weigh in soon. After all 'magic my way' trumps being a truly great, animal park, right?

It's all about PR, Iger's salary and wall st. and of course this is fine with all of the Walmart guests they're courting.

Anyway...while getting rid of the "little red" song and dance was the right move...why zebras?

They are notorious in zoos for being a complete pain in the can...and while they would have been a nice element had it worked out...probably not a show stopper...

I really wish they would have added leopards or a redesigned lion habitat instead...

I mean...i love the "natural design" of the cat areas...but it would be nice to occasionally see one without the aid of the Hubble.

I have to admit I am a bit amused by this story because I have witnessed first hand zebras being fiesty... and with a giraffe none the less.

We stay at AKL yearly and two years ago a zebra decided that he wanted to eat the giraffes food and had pushed the giraffe out of the way and was kicking the giraffe with his hind legs everytime he tried to come back to the tree and eat. The zebra didn't even face the giraffe, just kept backing up into him and kicking him with his hind legs when he tried to eat the food that had fallen on the ground.

I don't know what was so tasty about the giraffes food or if they feed the giraffes and zebras the same food at the AKL, but I do know that they put the giraffe's food high in the trees where they would normally find it in the wild; the zebra's food would obviously be much lower down on the tree. So, the zebra was eating what had fallen out of the giraffe's feeding box because the giraffe had pulled it out right when we got to the window... then along came zebra and took over.

I have to admit it was funny and of course I didn't have my camera but there were a few families from Wales there laughing it up with us. Can't believe that zebra was so bossy.

So, if the zebra decided it didn't like it's new 'station', the food, the guests on the savannah, etc., you can see why the had to remove them. They can be fiesty!

Is imagination dead around here? Is the only dreaming done whilst asleep? Is it really too much to ask "what if"?

There were theme parks before Walt gave us DL and look at what his outside the box thinking got us. look where the theme park industry is today thanks to Walt.

There were zoo's before Animal Kingdom but what did corporate Disney give us? A 'Nahtazoo' that looks like a zoo masquerading as a theme park. Yikes!

I so wish the zoo concept were floated back when Walt was still around for I can only imagine what the zoo experience would have become had he had his hands in it.

Instead we get a zoo without much real commitment to be a zoo because ... It is too expensive. Right? Dollars over creativity, once again.

This article highlights how little effort they are giving the animal link to AK. Some of their "superior" folks couldn't have predicted this trouble ahead of time? Come on! COME ON!

And I agree...like it or not animal kingdom is a failure on multiple levels.

They have created neither a world class zoo nor a world class themepark...and the hybrid makes both look bad.

Now don't say "we love it there"...that's not to mean that shouldn't nor even I don't...but that doesn't negate that they have failed by lack of investment, poor allocation of funds to it, and failure to come up with a defined vision that translated into a good Disney park like most of the others.

It it's a zoo...then Make it a destination one...more species and better experiences...bring the rare in (can't get a couple of pandas from the Chinese, huh? Even though you provide about 30% of their annual manufacturing orders? Hmm)

Or don't make it a zoo...make it an impressive theme park. But they have massively failed on that side.

Or do both as you claim...but DO BOTH!

Don't get cheap...you can afford it...don't let it rot and collect tickets...you can definitely afford it.

And get that clown joe rhode the HELL away from it.

250 million dollar rollercoaster and yeti that doesn't work?
Great again...it only took 9 trips to Nepal to "get that right"

~While AK may not be perfect, it's far from a "failure" -- the numbers don't reflect that.

I may sound stupid right now, but I'm not sure I understand what's going on here...there was some sort of a finale with zebra's?? I go to Disney every year and I'm not sure I know if this. I go on the Kilimanjaro Safari's and see the zebra's roaming around, so this wont be anymore?

I can believe it. One year I stayed at Kidani and the Zebras were chasing the Giraffes at 2am.

I spoke to one of the groundskeepers. Apprarently there was a wayward Zebra by the name of Mardi. I wonder if hes causing all the hoopla? He was the ringleader and bullying the other zebras as well.
