Building 4 IMHO because you are near the bus stop and food court.

Building 5, facing grass courtyard. Peaceful, quiet location, close to pool and bus stops, where they show movies at night, short walk to camp fire spot. We love it there and have been lucky enough to stay there every time we are at POFQ!

This is where I was, and I loved it! 5344, just a short walk around the corner and down the stairs and you were right across from the food court and the "shortcut" past Bldg 4 to the bus stop. It was fun to see what movie was playing when I would come home in the evenings.

Checked in this morning after the 4 night Disney Dream cruise! We were given building 5, same room as last time we stayed a few months ago! My parents are also in building 5 on the 2nd floor. The resort seems pretty busy as it's spring break and Easter! We will see the real test tomorrow for breakfast!

The Easter Sunday and April 2013 Recreation Activities and Movie Schedules for Port Orleans French Quarter are now available. See the main Recreation Activities Schedule page on portorleans.org for full-size PDF versions, or click on the images below.

Easter Sunday

If you don't fancy spending all of Easter Sunday in the crowded theme parks (and they will be crowded!) there are plenty of activities around both of the Port Orleans resorts to keep you and the kids occupied, including character meet-and-greets, family games and poolside fun, and of course some traditional confectionery-based activities.

Also, both of the resort gift shops (Fulton's General Store at Port Orleans Riverside and Jackson Square Gifts & Desires at Port Orleans French Quarter) are again offering pre-made and made-to-order Easter Baskets from Tuesday 26 March until Easter Sunday.

Walt Disney World will also be hosting special religious services in the Fantasia Ballroom at Disney's Contemporary Resort Convention Center. Guests will need to use Disney Transportation (rather than trying to park at the Contemporary) to get to the services, which are at the following times:
  • Catholic Mass: 8am-9am
  • Protestant Service: 9am-10am
  • Catholic Mass: 10:15am-11:15am

April 2013

For April, the outdoor movies will start at 8:30pm and the daily campfires commence at 6:30pm.

Also, don't miss the special Earth Day activities over at Port Orleans Riverside: Vote in a Recycle and Photo Contest in the Lobby at POR on Thursday 18 April (8am-5pm). Then join in with the Earth Day Celebrations from noon-2pm on Friday 19 April beside the POR Marina. Recycle and Photo Contest winners will be announced at the Earth Day Celebration.

Help - just booked POFQ for October and my inlaws, who are joining us, said they wanted to try Riverside!

Riverside is nice enough - a good 2nd - but I prefer the old time urban feel of POFQ. The POR mansions are pretty and AB is well-themed though too rustic for me. The FEEEEEEEEELLLL of POFQ is just more to my taste.

And the size and bus service with one stop are deal makers IMO.

Anyone able to help with POR experience's that were less than desirable? LOL

I just imagine being stuck in Parterre or Acadian Place and hiking to the pool/play area or for evening bevies and AM coffee.... or being at AB far away AND in the dark depressing rustic rooms that dont appeal to me... And the buses...

Thanks - or convince me it is great :)

Sydnerella's Mama

We always stayed at POR and loved it because of the shade in the AB section. Our last trip was to POFQ and now we will never go back to POR. There is no stress as to being far away from the food court or transportation. The bus service is wonderful especially from MK. Both resorts are lovely but the rooms at POFQ are more to my taste.

Thank you for the post, that is helpful. Having stayed at CBR once and liked it ( the pools are better than either PO pool IMO for kids) but I just loved the intimate feeling of POFQ so much more, and that we were so close to everything after long days. I fear POR would be similar to CBR being so much bigger.

And I just love the feeling of POFQ as compared to POR, so old time urban vs plantation spread out mansion feel. Like city vs suburbs for me, a city girl :)

It's very reassuring reading all the positive feedback for POFQ. We chose this resort just because it fit our budget and it looked nice. Sounds like we made the right choice...

Us too!! We were originally going to stay at a Value resort as this trip we need two rooms, but when I found a discount we used the savings to upgrade. My husband and I had an adults trip to WDW last year and stayed at CSR, which we loved, but felt it might be too large for this trip with extended family including small children. POFQ fits the bill!!

Hello all :wave2:

I'm hoping someone could help me out with the choices of different rooms here, because i'm lost now.

In December 2014, we're planning on Staying at POFQ for 1 week of our Honeymoon at either the 'Garden View' or 'Water View' room...
What does the inside of the rooms look like? Does it look like the pictures posted on Page 1, the gold and purple? If so they are fantastic :cheer2:

Or are those Gold/Purple rooms only reserved for the higher priced view like River?

Thank you
Vicky x

The decor of the rooms is the same for all of them. There's also a thread of POFQ pics that you might like to look at. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1849928 The rooms were refurbished in late 2010 and early 2011, so don't look at pics in the beginning of this thread. Start on page 27.

Hello All!

Its great to see how many POFQ enthusiasts there are! I have never been to WDW this summer will be our first time & I have been so torn of where to stay! I have switched my reservation so many times, there is so much info and things to take into consideration! Initially I wanted to stay at POFQ for its size and intimate feeling, an escape from the chaos of the parks so to speak. All the amenities don't matter to us, we just want a nice pool, comfy beds to sleep in and good transportation seeing as we wont have a car. We are traveling with our little ones, son 8 & daughter who will be 4 by then. The pictures of POFQ appear beautiful not like all the reviews that call it "creepy" or "gloomy". Do you guys think the atmosphere will take away from my kids first disney experience? We were going to do WL for kid appeal but it just seems like a waste seeing as though we wont be in the room much at all. I keep coming back to POFQ and I guess I just need a little reassurance is all. Thanks so much in advance for any advice anyone can give me! :goodvibes

The only thing that people do sometimes say is a little bit creepy are the large Mardi Gras masks suspended from the ceiling of the food court, but there's nothing else in the slightest bit creepy or gloomy about the resort. Have a look at the photos over on www.portorleans.org/gallery.php and see what you reckon.

I stayed at POFQ for the first time earlier this year and found it very pretty and charming, with the pastel-colored buildings and wrought iron railings. Even in February, the flower beds, flowering shrubs and trees were beautiful. Be sure to check out the cute Jazz Playing Gators around the pool area (everyone likes to photograph the Gators). I really loved POFQ and look forward to staying there again.

Oh, and I wanted to add that the compact size of the resort is a BIG plus.

Does anyone know why Disney doesn't give room discounts or very small discounts at POFQ compared to other resorts?

They are a small resort and are easy to fill.

They can share all the benefits with their sister resort, POR, without staying in a huge resort.

They just had a refurb in 2011.

They do not have trouble filling rooms at the resort, thus no need for discounts.

It is a small resort so there are less rooms to fill. Discounts are given to fill rooms. POFQ just simply does not need discounts to fill what they have.

I think POFQ will be fine for your kids. It is nice to return to a place that feels calm and peaceful after all the excitement of the parks. I've often wondered how good it is for kids, who are already over-stimulated, to return to a resort with intense colors and over-sized decor.

POFQ sells out without offering discounts. It's popular on it's own. So does the Poly. Lots of loyal guests return.
