I've searched the boards and didn't find any pics of the auto train. I'm thinking of booking for our next trip but I want to see pictures so I know what I'm getting us into. Can anyone help? I'd love to see some pics of the family bedroom. Thanks so much!!!!

At the risk of sounding snarky, why don't you just type "Amtrak Auto Train" into Google and see what you get?

I found this in a just a couple of seconds:

http://www.youtube.com/results?sear...0.10.0.47.237.7.7.0...0.0...1ac.1.gCkjpK8dKmQ

(videos of the train).

I can understand questions with some technical difficulty, but for relatively simply things (like pictures of a train), I'm not sure why we've become so dependent on the others in the community to provide for us. :confused3

Apologize for the snark, but sometimes I just shake my head. :worried:

You took the words right out of my mouth. And, I don't think you were being snarky, just honest.

Sigh. Maybe they were looking for some pics that other Disers may have, that they had not posted on youtube? Geeze. You are pretty much saying Don't bother Us with the way you phrased telling someone to go look on youtube.

No wonder the Transportation Board gets such a bad rap on other parts of the Dis.

You are hardly being snarky suggesting the OP try a Google search for this easily found information. So many questions asked repeatedly here and on other online forums could be much more quickly answered by the posters themselves. I guess people are either lazy or don't know how to use search engines (although if you can find this board you should be able to do a simple search). :sad2:

Sigh. Aren't you familiar with this proverb:

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.

I hope no one who posts regularly here worries too much what some anonymous stranger thinks about this board, :rotfl:

Really guys? Way to treat a newbie poster. I thought we were supposed to be here to be helpful, not to tell people they are lazy. :sad2:

If you don't have anything helpful to add, why comment? I would guess that that is one new poster we won't ever see again on the Transportation Board. Not very well done of you.

As your little proverb goes, that could apply to 99% of the stuff talked about on the Dis. Why bother to join a community based on helping each other out if you don't want to be bothered to help? Almost every single thing asked could be answered with Go look on youtube. It wasn't nice at all.

Wow!! I'm sort of ashamed here you guys!!! While I do understand that going a google search is easy enough, why the 'snarkiness'?? Geez. Why not just suggest doing a google search and move on??
While I do understand there is no pixiedust on the Transportation Board (we do have lots of love!!), we do need to have common courtesy. Looks like some of you are tired and cranky today.
And that whole 'who cares what an anonymous stranger thinks'?? I kind of care. You were all strangers once. And I like to think that we welcomed you without the scathing comments about laziness!!

Dear God...if you can't be somewhat helpful, just don't respond. I'm really surprised.

I thought I was pretty open that the information about to be presented would sound snarky. The reason I said that is because it was quite blunt, more than snark. However, we've seen many posts where bluntness is read by the recipient as rude in nature, versus the straight info as requested.

Since disneylove seemed fairly new to the DIS, I was trying to brace her for the bluntness of the answer, and I even apologized in advance, didn't I?

I also provided two avenues to get the info requested, doing a search and provided a link. Not sure how much I could have helped...

Now as for gmeh and cyberspace's backing me up, there is a lot of knowledge on the DIS Boards, especially in here, which is even more useful than the other boards (IMO), since many fail to optimize the travel portion of their vacation.

My colleagues have spent lots of time looking things up and sharing their extensive expertise in the world of motion (It's fun to be free!). I, myself, have researched many complicated and semi-difficult items, especially relating to air travel. My recent posts on car seats on aircraft and the rules for involuntary denial of boarding were well researched and linked on here for the sole purpose of supporting a question by our fellow DISers.

I don't mind answering questions with a depth and/or breadth of information required, since in some areas I have the knowledge on how to properly phrase the question more accurately to gain the truly desired information. In these cases, I will do the research and post my findings.

If the OP was asking about timetables, pricing, the material differences between the various sleeper berth vs coach, vs business, I would likely have researched the info and provided various links to answer the question. If she wanted to know how to get free or reduced travel on the auto train, then I would definitely jump in on this questions with detailed information. However a question on how to find a picture of the train and berths inside the car is fairly pedestrian for someone on a chat board (as cyberspace pointed out).

It really is about how to use the resources given. A better post may have been that the OP tried to find them via google (or another search engine), but couldn't find what they were looking for. Then explain the pics they found and how that didn't satisfy their needs, then we could help with a deeper dive.

I guess in summary, there are many questions on this board where we work diligently to answer. Some are complex and some may be relatively simple, but we still answer them so the poster isn't left in the cold. Many questions are asked again and again, which is fine, but does sometimes get repetitive to answer.

In this case, I bluntly answered the question sufficiently to to guide the OP to the information they requested, but the answer came off a snarky (as anticipated). This does not invalidate the answer, and sometimes we need to be told the obvious in order to recalibrate our focus (Google search is your friend).

As for me, I think I've earned the ability to be a bit blunt, given my positive contributions to date, and I did try to cushion the obvious answer with a preface. I guess the next questions for me would be, should I not have answered at all? Did a Google search or the You Tube link actually help in any way?

First, I don't think anyone "earns the ability to be blunt." Anything can be said with grace and tact. Announcing that you're about to be "blunt" doesn't make it ok to anyone but yourself. And yes, I'm new to the boards and yes I will probably never ask a question again because I don't appreciate the way this one was answered. Just like Sweet Brown "I ain't got time for that." My question was regarding Disney travelers on the Auto Train and their personal experience. Of course I can see the virtual rooms on the Amtrak site and random pics on google. I was in no way asking anyone to do research for me. On the other threads I follow, posters are much more friendly and are eager to share their experiences with others. Couldn't anyone easily google all the information found on these boards? Of course they could, but it's nice to have somewhat of a connection with the person providing the information like a fellow Disney fan. Forgive me for not knowing that the "transportation" thread was not a friendly place, I'll keep that in mind. My thoughts are if you don't want to answer someone's question, then don't. It is not necessary to put someone down by calling them lazy and make assumptions about them that aren't true. Maybe you'll reconsider being "blunt" with the next question you answer. We are all here with a common interest in something fun, no reason we can't be friendly.

I can appreciate that, and I apologize for offending you.

If we read the initial post, it doesn't really ask what other DISers thought of the auto train, it simply asks if there are any pictures. I didn't read anything into the post other than what was asked.

When I did answer, you had many views but only one response. I did pass it by due to the simplicity of the question, but I can back to it, since I felt ignoring the question was worse. That is why I decided to answer.

I would like to add a couple things about the board itself. First, we get asked the same question over and over, sometimes to the point where board vets wonder if others do their research. This is not the case for you, as the post was a unique question (pics for the auto train berthing) and you mentioned you did research, which is great. However consistently answering questions about why it is bad to park at a resort to visit a nearby park or how Southwest Airline's Early Bird Check-in works trained the vets to post short direct answers. Social conditioning does happen, and I answer differently based on the culture of the board I visit (you can see many of my posts in the DVC area or the Disneyland board, if you want to see the difference).

Last, please note no one on here is attempting to be insulting. If you could hear my tone and/or see my facial expressions, then you would have read the answer differently. Also, I would have likely answered the question you wanted vice what was written, as I would have had more info from your tone and facial movements.

Instead, we truly try to help others get the best deal and navigate one of the most difficult aspects of their Disney vacation, the travel. There is no pixie dust outside the berm of WDW and DLR, and we (the board's vets) want you to have the best experience possible. As such, we will give you the facts, straight up with little sugar, since that is how you will see it when you get there.

As for myself and my post, I will admit the question, as worded and not as you intended to ask it, seemed very elementary and simply not worth the time to answer. Harsh, yes, but that is also likely why you only received one answer after four hours time (when I go to it), and that answer was terse with simply a link.

In the end, if you have a question, ask it and you will get the answer. It may not be in the format you anticipate or with much pixiedust:, but any discomfort you feel from reading the posts will save you a ton of headache if you don't ask it and simply show up to find things are really not acceptable for your family. Personally, this board is all rainbows and unicorns compared to the frequent traveler version of the DIS (FlyerTalk.com). That is full contact hockey or the Detroit Pistons of the 1980s ;). Absolutely no love there, and tons of type-A personalities. However, it has so much great information about travel (air, car, train) and hotels that any discomfort (cost) is worth the reward.

Now that we know what information you really wanted (opinions on family suites on the train), some of our colleagues can probably answer that. There is a thread, aptly titled All About The Autotrain you can look in to see if there is any opinions on the berthing arrangement.

I wish you luck in your travels.

And yes, I'm new to the boards and yes I will probably never ask a question again because I don't appreciate the way this one was answered. ....I was in no way asking anyone to do research for me.

But...isn't an answer with images of what you want better than NO answer?

And when such a question is asked, even it's not intended, it often DOES result in someone else doing the research. For instance, I know that you can get good stuff when you go to google (or your own favorite search engine) and type in "disboards" and whatever it is you're looking for. That way you find threads about what you're looking for ON the dis. Now if I'm going so far as to tell you that, I'm probably going to pop in "disboards auto train" for you, and get some threads for you.

Like a trip report that says it's "picture heavy".

Or the all about thread which was made by someone who researched heavily and gave links to all sorts of threads!

Or another trip report.

Do these have images of the family rooms? Not sure. But they are a start for you.

From googling "disboards family bedroom autotrain" I got a thread that had this possibly helpful link in it. Not the Dis, and I didn't look at it, but maybe it will help.

If anyone had actually chimed in with their own pictures here, I probably wouldn't have responded at all. But no one has. Very few people here take the Auto Train. It's a pretty specific itinerary and only gets a specific group of people taking it. Waiting for it to be seen (and having to bump it up each day in hopes that they will see it) could have been very sad for you. So...some people will do a bit of research for you, and perhaps show you how they did that research.

I promise it wouldn't have felt ANY better to have your thread go looking-at but unanswered for days on end. At least this way you have some other places to look.

Not everyone knows how to put things in other ways. I have had problems in my personal life and online because I manage to find the exact wrong way to say things. On a work trip a colleague once said something to another colleague that got a laugh and harder work from her...if I had said the EXACT same words to her, she would have gotten angry with me, and I know it 100%. But somehow the other was able to put just the right tone and the right word emphasis to make it funny AND get her point across. Not all of us are gifted like that.

So...so far, the people who have seen your thread have obviously not been on the autotrain. This isn't surprising to me, given how relatively few people take it. Therefore, people have given you the second best replies, which are "hey, here are ways to find it" and "here are some specific examples of what we found". And, though you might not have intended for people to research, it does end up with others doing just that.

Alas, to your very specific stated wish in the original post, "I'd love to see some pics of the family bedroom.", I can't easily find anything. Guess people aren't labeling their images as "auto train family bedroom". Drat.

I appreciate your help. I did read the entire "all about the auto train" thread and looked for "auto train photos" in the search bar. I'll look at these links too, thank you. Again, I now realize I needed to be more specific in my question.

Good points all around! :thumbsup2

Not everyone knows how to put things in other ways. I have had problems in my personal life and online because I manage to find the exact wrong way to say things.
Me too. I've been diagnosed with mid-level Asperger's syndrome :) I could say all sorts of crazy stuff, but now that I'm in my 40s, I'm more experienced and take time to think about it before I say it.

It was my mistake by not being specific in my question, I can own that. Thank you for your time.
You are welcome, and again I apologize for coming off as a bad person (Tink didn't put me in timeout yet, though :duck:).

We are here to help, so ask away. In fact if you are taking the train, Amtrak is a trading partner for Ultimate Rewards (Chase credit card's rewards program), and most to all of the cost could be mitigated with a few UR points :rolleyes1. Plus, Amtrak has a frequent user program that may be worthwhile in reviewing, in case it is something you end up enjoying.
