Poly Standard View?

I currently have our first two nights booked at the Swan ("free" for signing up for starwood amex) and the next five nights booked at the wonderful boardwalk inn with a water view room.

I was thinking about breaking up the trip away from the boardwalk to be on the monorail our first two nights. The Poly and the Grand Floridian are both very appealing.

Right now Poly is showing me two nights in a standard view fro $570 and the Floridian is showing two nights in a garden view for $626.

It will just be my wife and I, who will be going for our first anniversary.

Which would you choose? I know GF has construction going on when we are going next month, but Poly Standard view could be a parking lot view which is not too exciting to me.

I would consider renting points and staying at BLT possible, get a 1 bedroom for that prices..
But if you were anti- DVC or unavailable, and/or there were a bit of a discount, I would for sure pick Poly of GF. Without construction Poly is much nicer. With it.. it is an easy pick.


Often in non-busy season you will be upgraded at the Poly. So, I wouldn't be overly concerned with the view. If it is Christmas week, not so much.
Additionally, at 570 a night, if the room view wasn't acceptable, I would certainly let the front desk know about my disappointment. That is nearly twice the rate I paid for the last 4 and 5 star resorts I have stayed in. ( Chicago and Cleveland).

You can request a specific longhouse at the Poly and this will help ensure that you don't get a parking lot view. For that matter you can request to not have a parking lot view. Normally I'd suggest Tokelau but its undergoing room refreshes next month and won't be available so to ensure non-parking lot I'd say Tahiti or Fiji since neither have parking lot views. Then I'd add a second request if no parking lot view just to be sure in case you are given a different building.

When we were there in December, the construction at the GF was pretty invasive--we went there for Citricos and I was glad we were not staying there.

That same trip, we had our only experience so far with a bad view at the Poly. We were assigned to a building way over by the TTC, and the patio opened right up to a parking lot. Luckily we were able to move to a different room. Other than that, I have always been satisfied with our regular rooms (are they called Garden View?).

I would choose the Poly--I recently (Feb) had a garden view there and we had a patio and the most lovely view of the quiet pool.

I would pick the poly! We love it there and it so relaxing and romantic to walk along the beach looking over at the MK! Also most rooms are not parkling lot views if you request the right longhouse. Head over to Tikiman's poly info. He can help you out!

Personal opinion here, but for a week trip, I would not be doing 3 hotels, after your 2 nights at Swan. Just pick one resort, either keep your BWI res, or pick one of the MK. Otherwise you'll be spending all your time moving, and not really feel like you've had the time to enjoy any resort.
But that's me.

Interesting, I was there in Dec. staying at the GF and the construction didn't bother me @ all.

Not everyone gets lucky and moving is not always an option. They used to call non LGV, non TPV rooms 'garden' view which included parking lot views, now maybe they are called 'standard' view? In any event, I don't believe there is a way to guarentee that you will not get parking lot/non balcony @ the Poly w/out booking a higher priced room, you can ask and if you are stuck in a less than stellar room you can ask to be moved, but they may not be able to move you. Since the 2 days you are considering are @ present free for OP (if I understood the post correctly,) if it were me, I'd just stay where the rooms are free and use that money for something else like my next trip or a couple of nice dinners @ WDW. I must say, tho', that doing the MK resort/Epcot resort split is a very nice way to visit WDW.

The Poly for sure! We loved our standard view room. We requested a room, 1st floor near pool and lobby and got an awesome room. Niue 1st floor facing the Volcano pool. We were steps to the GCH, pool and Captain Cooks. Lovely landscaping so we didn't feel like people were watching us on the patio. Patio's are huge and very convenient.

Check out the tikiman website, maps and longhouse info. Great way to study a little and check out what area you would like to be in.

Our poly standard view room was in Samoa and looked out at the quiet pool. It was a very lovely view!

We are coming down in May (the week before memorial day weekend) to celebrate my bday... it will be me, my mom and my friend and her son. We are spending the majority of the week at POR, but are transferring for the last 2 days and 1 night to the Poly. This is a big bday splurge for me and we are all sharing 1 room to afford it! I booked a standard room. We have a fax template with info to fax a room request to the POR 5 days before we leave. Is there something similar available for the Poly? Or an email address (or fax number) for the person at the Poly who handles the room assignments? Since this is a once in a lifetime stay at my dream hotel and only for 1 night, I would REALLY like to ensure I am not overlooking a parking lot!

I received some clarification on this recently. At the Poly, the rooms that used to be designated "garden" were changed to "standard" this year with the exception of Hawaii, the CL building, which still calls their interior rooms "garden view". Garden and standard are the same at the Poly and, so, standard still includes many wonderful lush views. In fact, there are relatively few parking lot views and odds are in your favor of not receiving one (though not zero, of course). Full balcony has worse odds.

POR and POFQ are the only WDW resorts that still read faxed room requests. You'll need to call and have your requests added to your reservation.

Twice booked AOTEAOA 3rd floor specifically for a view of the monorail as it glides past the balcony. View was of a lush collection of gardens. It was offset enough so that one had to strain to detect any parked or moving cars. Last stay Dec 2010 and it was called a parking lot view. Stairway is next to elevators at the corner that is right at the NW corner of the marina-pool area. Found it to be secluded and quiet yet within easy walking access to our car, the MK boat and the monorail station. In fact, enjoyed walking underneath the monorail to inspect its under side while it was stopped at the resort station. It's a guy thingy I suppose...if I have to, but where else is that possible?

Definitely Poly!!! You can request a specific longhouse to insure that you will not have a view of the parking lot. My DH and I love staying in Fiji marina view, it's still considered a standard view room.
