WISH Away The Pounds - Marvelous March Challenge ~~ All are WELCOME!

Okay.... found out that the paperwork that needs to be filled out for DS is NOT available online, so I PRAY he remembers to contact his engineering teacher today to get a copy of them. I will have to sit in the school parking lot after school and fill them out so DS can run them back inside. Not sure how we missed this step along the way! I'm usually so on top of things like this! (It is the travel paperwork that DS needs to attend the robotics tournament in Maine in less than 2 weeks!)

All of the baking is done and the oven is off and the sink is empty and the counters are wiped! As soon as the cupcakes cool I will dip them in the cinnamon frosting (which is all ready to go). Then I will put them in their Tupperware and all of the treats are ready to go. I need to wrap the coaches gifts that the team bought and then HIT the TM hard before lunch! And somewhere in there it would be nice to make the beds and do a load of wash!.........P

Wow... things are really quiet here! Hope you are all well and busy eating right and working out to prepare for tomorrow's weigh-in!!.............P

Give yourself a compliment. It has to be completely positive. None of this, "well, I did awful at the beginning of the week, but I managed to turn it around" kind of compliments.

After you have come up with your completely positive compliment, what is one thing you would like to work on for next week. Again try to phrase it positively.
:goodvibes

I've been known to be called "concrete head" by the DH.:lmao: I take that as a huge compliment as I don't think I'd be where I'm at in life if I had been anything else!:cool1:

Next week- getting better!!!:thumbsup2

Pluto-so very sorry for your continued itband problems. It is the pits. Just a couple things that helped me, though you may have already tried all this stuff--do you do the pigeon stretch (yoga pose)? Can you touch your toes? How about a crossed leg toe touch. My itband problems start in my back, so if my back is tight I know to watch out for my itband flaring up. Last year when I went to pt they did this thing that is similar to accupuncture, but different. They stuck these little tiny needles in the muscles around my itband which caused them to flex and then release. It did not feel great, but I think it helped. I am wondering if other than a little bit of stretching if resting would be better before the race. I think the go to therapy for itband problems is to strengthen the piriformis. But honestly, the more I did those exercises the worse my back hurt and the worse my itband felt. Nicole has had a lot of itband problems as well, so if she is checking in maybe she will have some ideas. It is so frustrating when the therapy just isn't seeming to help.

Ok, off to work. I am off on Wednesdays which was great this week because I had an extremely frustrating Tuesday. I am going to try to go with the flow today, because I don't think that things are going to be much improved. But that's ok. Thinking positive.:goodvibes

Thanks again Rose. Great idea about pigeon pose! I love that pose in class and will remember to do it at home too. ::yes:: The PT has been doing electrical stim which sounds similar to your acupuncture thingie and I make sure he cranks it up as high as I can stand it. I've pretty much determined the only thing to do right now is rest. When even a simple walk bothers it, I know it's bad. Will just keep stretching and icing and may even take up Pix's advice about sacrificing some virgins to the running gods!:lmao:

QOTD: one positive about me ...... There are so many to chose from, I'll go with DETERMINED! When I started my road to health and fitness almost a year ago I never thought I would be still on it ! I figured I would have double backed to couchandpotatochipville by now :) but I am determined to get healthy ( and skinny ) What can I work on for next week??? I think I need to really try and suppress the negative commentary in my head, the ones that say " you will never be fit enough to run 13.1 " damn voices! Floss- thanks for the advice! However, if I go slower, they will call it walking, lol!! I will try breathing thru my nose more :) Pluto - sorry about your knee. I think it's time to start looking for virgins to sacrifice to the running gods. Hope the tape works for you! Have a great day! Melinda

I wholeheartedly agree!:lmao:::yes::

Hello everyone :wave2:

I wanted to check in and let everyone know I am reading along at the moment, but I am finding little time to post :(

I have a lot of stuff going on with work (stressful stuff) and I seem to be so busy at home. This weekend is no exception. We have a birthday party tomorrow evening, an Easter party at church Saturday, and more church things on Sunday. Throw in laundry, grocery shopping, and cleaning, and I run out of time! I cannot wait until our break next week to get some "me time."

So, I wanted to pop on and let you know I am supporting everyone :goodvibes even though I am not posting as much right now. I'm off to a stupid work meeting (sorry, I am VERY frustrated with my employer right now :crazy2:). I am planning on hitting the gym after work, then we are going to a local hockey game tonight (Youngstown, Ohio). The kids are looking forward to it and so are me & DH! :cool1:

Hopefully, I will be able to jump on and post some this weekend, but forgive me if I can't. Keep up all the good work & happy Thursday!

Jill

Was wondering what happened to you :goodvibes. Glad to see you're still around. Try to schedule in some "me time" will you? You can't take care of everybody else if you're not taking care of yourself!:faint:

Kimberley pixiedust:

Guess what?! DD just won an NHSA scholarship! Woohooo! What an exciting day! Just wanted to share that! TTYL......P

All that hard work pays off...:cool1::cool1:

Share your nsv (non-scale victories) since you started your healthy journey.

Might not be on in the morning and depending on whether I get my workout in before or after work, might miss the afternoon too. Monday's have been hard for me lately. But I am still here and will try to check in at some point tomorrow.

Have a great Monday.:goodvibes

Stretching. I can stretch more with less weight on me--it's cool, I love stretching after exercise it's a reward in itself.

QOTD Wednesday March 20, 2013
We have talked about this before, but I think it is really important (at least for me) so I am going to throw it out there again.
Are you organized? Are your days full of chaos (can't find stuff, not sure where you are supposed to be, have no idea what you are going to eat or when)? How do you think your organization/clutter or lack there of effects your weight loss?

Welcome! We have a few more weigh-ins left in March so you are welcome to pm pjlla your weight and get started or you can just jump in and introduce yourself and start chatting. If you haven't had a chance yet, read the first page to get an idea of how the challenge works.:goodvibes

I guess I'm pretty disorganized but I like it that way. I hate things being so predictable every day.

Well I gained 4 pounds in Portland lol. I've lost 2 of those this week but have a cold now so I don't think I'm going to push myself any more this week. Misty is still HUGE with no signs of imminent labor lol. I spent all day yesterday on a message board thread on a cat site with people waiting for their cats to give birth lol. Made me feel a little better. I estimated her to be about 63 days on Monday, so today if I was anywhere near she's 66. First litters can go up to 71 days. The kittens are moving around in there so I know everything's ok, although not as ferociously due to lack of space lol. She hasn't been eating as much and has been sleeping more.
She must have just barely been pregnant when we got her. I know she couldn't have got pregnant after we got her because she was in a room by herself for at least 4-5 days, then we let her out into the house intermittently. She did get out once on my husband's watch about a week after we got her, but he said she couldn't have been out very long and I found her pretty close to the house quickly. She also got out about 3-4 days later and I spent about an hour looking for her and found her just hiding under a tree in front of our house. I think it is her first litter. When my husband first brought her home she looked like she was just barely full grown. I'm really pretty good at telling the age of cats.

Gonna just stay home today I think and keep an eye on her, my husband can take second shift lol. Have lots of laundry to do still and I work at 4.

Pluto--I looked it up. It's called trigger point dry needling. I had e-stim and ultrasound too. This is different. Just throwing it out there. Not every place does it. By the time I had that done I had been dealing with itbs in one form or another for over a year. :) I really disliked the guy who did it, but I do think it probably helped.

bbl with replies. I just got home from work. :)

Liz--I hope you have a fabulous, relaxing, safe, healthy trip! :)

Evening all! It was one of those days when I could have talked myself out of a workout SO EASILY.....but I'm proud to say that I didn't. It was NOT a killer crazy workout, but I got my blood pumping and worked up a sweat for a solid 35+ minutes plus a cool down. :thumbsup2 I'm calling that good enough for today.:p so glad my friend Rose taught me to at least get started with a workout!
Great job P! :)

Buffy--great job getting on the tm! Congrats on going further than you have in a while. Get that knee checked! Hopefully it is a non-issue that just requires some strengthening. :)

Rose, you inspire me to believe I might actually become a runner someday!

This also got me inspired! To get off my duff and get some cleaning done :rotfl: Not exactly organizing but still :upsidedow I used to be so organized, OCD tendencies really. But since DF came into the picture :scared1: He is the OPPOSITE of organized and his mess and clutter seems to slowly creep all over the house. Makes me stressed and anxious. Plus with how crazy my work life is, I always seem to be overwhelmed with trying to get a handle on things! I definitely do better with my weight loss goals when I am organized... A set time to go workout, with everything put together and ready to go, and having meals planned so I am not starving and eating whatever is there... But I only achieve this about 70% of the time. However tonight my planned dinner did not work out (rotisserie chicken from Costco) so instead I quick thawed some lean ground beef and I remembered a recipe from a low carb website with ground beef and pumpkin... I didn't use pumpkin because I needed to finish off our St. Patty's day veggies (potatoes and carrots for the kiddos and cabbage for me). Called for cooking the ground beef with a bit of cinnamon and nutmeg, it was delicious! Anyhow, just a small victory over my disorganization :)
Glad you are motivated! I get very stressed when it is chaotic at home. I am extremely organized at work (I have to be) so I think sometimes when I come home I am just done dealing with it all! But I totally agree, it is much easier to reach your goals when you are organized.

Good morning all!! Hope everyone is enjoying the spring so far, no matter what it looks like where you are!

Finally done with my work week & managed to get in 15 hours of overtime! A few more shifts & our trip will be paid for. :-)

For the QOTD, I do find that being organized really helps my diet. On weeks I work I plan for snacks, meals, workouts etc.. But on my week off I do tend to slack off a bit and I find it much harder to stick with the program. I am certainly not a "type A" person so sticking to a rigid routine all the time is the hardest part, especially when I have a week off!!

Have a great day all!! :-)
Congrats on that overtime. :) Enjoy that week off!

Glad you popped in Jill. I was wondering how you are doing. Hope things improve at work. :)

I decided at the last minute to make some goodies for winter sports awards night. After they recognize all of the sports together and name the scholar athletes, etc, the teams break off individually to have other awards etc. I decided to make this year's a bit extra special, since it is DD's senior year and I am doing some baking to make it a PARTY!!:) So far this morning I've made 3 dozen sugar cookies decorated with red sugar (school colors are red and blue), a double batch of mini pumpkin spice cupcakes/muffins topped with a bit of cinnamon frosting (if you eat them for breakfast without frosting we call them muffins.... for dessert with frosting we call them cupcakes! :rotfl: ), and I am working on 2 dozen chocolate chip cookies. I'll be the FIRST to admit that they are mostly from box mixes, etc, but still better than nothing! And.... round of applause for me... I did NOT eat any batter or dough! I did lick one finger as I walked to the sink, but I stopped short of licking the spoons and bowl! :cool1: Hopefully this will all be enough for just 9 swimmers and their parents. I contemplated going out and buying a big cake at the grocery store, but decided to save myself the 45 minute round trip drive and the $25 it would have cost me. I used just whatever I had in the house. I had a big bucket of frozen Nestle choc. chip cookie dough, a sugar cookie mix (plus the butter and egg needed) and spice cake mix and pumpkin plus a can of white frosting and cinnamon.... so I was all set!! I bought blue cocktail napkins and small red appetizer plate while I was out last night, so we should be all set. I am skipping drinks.... there are water fountains and drink machines at the school.... plus sometimes the school provides lemonade and such at these events.

TTYL............................P
That is so nice Pamela! :) I love batter, so that would have been a tough one for me!

Gonna just stay home today I think and keep an eye on her, my husband can take second shift lol. Have lots of laundry to do still and I work at 4.
Hope those kitties come soon! :)

On the tape discussion that has been going on..Mike googled how to tape my calf last night. It was very sore after my run yesterday (continuation from the weekend), so he taped it last night. And I think it made a big difference. I ran 2.5 this morning and while it was sore, it was better than yesterday. I have been wearing the tape all day. Hopeful that I will be able to get in a decent run long run over the weekend. We are out of town next weekend, and while I will do my mile a day, not sure if I will do much more. :)

Hope everyone has a great night!

Don't forget to pm those weights tomorrow. :)

I used the KT tape on DS12 when he was having knee issues and he said it worked wonders. Also our top female runner at the HS had a stress fracture in her thigh and she used the tape as part of her recovery. She must have done something right though because she ran a 5 minute mile in indoor.

I am good at my job. Really... and it is a hard job. But I am detailed oriented, self motivated, and family centered. I write well and am thorough in all I do. So... I am good at my job :)

Next week I want to keep the house clean! :rotfl:

*************
Excited for tomorrow because I have to go out of town for work... I getto sleep in a bit, hity the Y before heading out, have a nice lunch by myself, maybe get to hit Ikea while up there! Oh, and that little work thing thrown in, but really what I have to do shouldn't take more than 2 hours tops, plus drive time of 1 1/2 hours each way... the rest of the day is MINE! Lately I have been feeling like I need me time. I never really felt that way before, I always feel better when I am taking care of others... But I entered a contest to win a week at the Biggest Loser Ranch and I got to thinking about how AMAZING it would be to have a whole week to myself, no kids, no DF, no work and no house to take care of! A week to be in a new environment, have all the time in the world to take care of me, sleeping, eating right and exercising! Ahh, to dream! I guess it comes along with the territory, I had DS so young (19) and have spent the last 12 years without a break, being a single mom (for 8 years) to 2 kids, putting myself through school, taking care of everything for everybody, especially since I chose a career in which it is really my job to take responsibility for other people's lives too! I must be glutton for punishment :lmao: Well, maybe someday I'll get a break... Right?? :goodvibes

Today I got busy with well...... life. lol Far too much to ramble on about, but it was a good day! :thumbsup2

As for the QOTD.....
Today was horrible outside, rain wind and cold. But I put my big-girl panties on, grabbed my heavy coat and my DD and got in a nice 5 mile walk!! I was cold & wet (and discovered I had a hole in my left shoe) but I felt great!!! I had every reason NOT to go for a walk, but I did it anyway. I felt proud that I did it even when I really didn't want to! :cheer2:

For next week, I am going to conquer the office!! I will organize the files and set up space for my continuing ed, and get the dogs files ready to for competition this summer!! Take that procrastination!!!!! :rotfl2:

Have a great night all, I have classes tomorrow and then off to get some new living room furniture!

Take care!

Good Morning everyone!

I hope you are all ready to start into the last full week of March with lots of energy and motivation!!

Lots of thanks to Rose for coaching last week!

I will be your coach for the coming week. My name is Magdalene and my weight loss journey has had many ups and downs, at the moment I am working on losing the last two pounds that will get me into a healthy weight range. My current big motivation is a vacation next month which includes a Disney cruise and some time at WDW. I have battled with my weight ever since I was a kid - I used to be a "fat" kid in the 70s - looking at kids now and at pictures of myself when I was 9 I would be in the normal category today... In college I managed to lose a lot of weight - with the help of a group of close friends who all were (and still are today) really skinny. While I never acchieved their level of skinniness I looked great. And that's the end goal weight I am working towards.

At the moment I am doing the 30 Day Shred programm - it has been taking me much longer than 30 days though. While I haven't lost much weight with it so far, I have become much fitter and far more toned. For example my arm flab has reduced incredibly. I am doing my last workout on Saturday and will report back with the results on Sunday!

On to the first question of the day:

Is there any one food (or a food group) that is really "dangerous" for you? Something that you love and tend to overeat if you have it. How do you deal with the temptation? Do you just avoid it all together, make modifications to it or limit yourself in the quantity?

Morning all! I'm dressed and ready to head to work but I wanted to say HAPPY FRIDAY to everyone! Not sure where exactly I am working today, so I don't know if I'll have any computer time, but if I do, you know I'll be popping on again!

Just a reminder to my friends who are voting for my daughter (check your PM box if you don't know what I am talking about)..... please take just a minute to VOTE today (and tomorrow and Sunday and Monday, etc.....)! It is very much appreciated!

BBL to chat............................P

Morning everyone!!

Well, this has been a challenging month that has flown by!!! Had a very high, unachievable goal but was hoping to reach half of it. Due to being sick with this flu that's roaming our town I haven't been able to workout at all. Bright side-haven't gained any either. Still have one more week in march, another in April before our spring break cruise. If I can lose a bit before then, than all is good. Can't stress as that makes it worse!! Have a great weekend!!

Well, that does NOT sound pleasant!:crazy2: BUT, if after resting it for about 8 weeks, if there's no improvement, I'll ask my PT about it. I love what he's been able to help me with so far, so I have all the confidence in the world in him.:goodvibes

Hi Magdalene! :wave2: Thanks for coaching this week!

On to the first question of the day:

Yes, yes, yes! That would be cheese. Any kind of cheese: parmesan, gouda, goat, blah, blah, blah. I just can't get enough of it!! And then of course, it's inevitable that after downing all that salty cheese, the sweet pangs kick in. I call it my sabotage combo. "Sabotage combo for one please. Thank you! :rotfl2::rotfl:

Hello all! :wave2:

Big hugs to all who need them :hugs: and pixiedust: for us all to keep moving forward to our goals.

I haven't been posting but have been reading along. I'm just going to jump in here because I will never catch up otherwise. :teeth:

Thanks, Rose, for coaching last week :thanks: and a big WATP to our new coach, Magdalene! :flower3:

I will say nuts are something I have to be careful about as it is so easy to overeat with them -- 1/4 of a cup is not very much. :lmao: Really almost any day anything can become a dangerous food for me. I've been much better about measuring and portioning things and that seems to help. Also, recording that food as well as what I plan to eat for the rest of the day helps keep things under control.

I have made a conscious choice to say that there is no food that is off limits to me -- food is nourishment and something that we need. I'm not spending the rest of my life not enjoying it. I just have to make sure I stay on plan. ::yes::

Have a great day all! :goodvibes

Good Afternoon & Happy Friday!!! :yay: I have been hanging in there. I did lose that extra pound so at this point no gain, no loss. I will take another maintain.

I am cleared for walking (correctly and as long as I am not in pain) and PT showed me some stomach crunches I can do, so next week is going to be better.

My eating is back on track. Just need to keep improving.

As far as QOTD and my "danger foods"? Cheese, crackers, bread, butter, sour cream, & ANY FORM of potatoes.

The only way for me to control it is to read the label and follow the guidelines with measurement and/or weight.

If I don't label read, it becomes a free for all sometimes. Not always though.

Good afternoon friends!

I am at work today without really any time, but my student is busy watching a movie, so I can sit nearby.

Scale was down just a bit today from last Friday's weight but up a bit from Saturday's weight... so obviously I am hovering in the same 1 lb range.... which would be fine if I were trying to maintain.... but I am at the TOP end of my maintenance range and need to get back to the bottom!

Health and Wellness Fair at school here today....nice to see them teaching some healthy habits.

I'll pop on again tonight!..............P

I'm a cheese fiend too, can't start eating it, because I know I won't stop!! I have a particular weakness for goats cheese and a nice soft blue, something like gorgonzola (or Maytag....if only I could buy it in the UK!!!)

Of course, if I have cheese, I also want a huge chunk of crusty white bread and some butter.

Best I don't touch any of it....can't believe I've not had any since Christmas apart from Extra Light Philly.

I had a huge chunk of tillamook cheese the other night with some smoky bbq wheat thins-- felt guilty but it was so dang good.

Danger food---Good food. I'm a big fan of Diners drive ins and dives--y'know those places all the local love. If it's good ingredients made from scratch and with flair---I have a huge appetite, can generally out eat anyone at a sitting.

Well the never ending saga of Misty The Cat who will not have Kittens continues. I slept with her last night, she threw up about 3:30 was pretty excited because that's a sign of labour and of course that's all she did. Cleaned up the mess (she did it in the litterbox--so cute--) and went back to bed. We are at Day 67 if when I first noticed her nipples were pinking was at 3 weeks, I guess it's possible for them to pink at 2 but rare. Tried to make her 'exercise' today lol she played a little with cat toys on poles and since she's following me around did that a little lol. Then tried to take her temp-- because she always moves around a bunch then lol now she's sleeping up against me on the bed. Her teats are really full now--she's getting a Rack. She's not showing any signs of distress so I'm not going to take her to the vet. Most of my estimation was based on the pinking of her nipples an roundness of her belly when I first noticed it and that's not an exact science. She was also so thin when we got her it was probably more noticeable. The kittens are still moving around a lot too so I know they're ok. She's also messed around in her boxes kicking stuff around--the nesting thing y'know. Prior to now she hasn't shown much interest in the boxes.

Lost 3 of my 4 vacation pounds-- so good with that until I get over this cold. Last night was miserable had to dig out the humidifier so I could breathe.
