Donald's Defiant Dashers 2013

Congrats Tanya on your run! Hills.......the enemy of all runners! ;)

I had a great weekend at the Charity 5k this Saturday! As a matter of fact, my entire family had a great race! DW, DD11, and my baby brother and his wife all ran it. All the adults PR'd and placed. DD11 finished close to her PR.

My baby brother finished 2nd overall and 1st in his age, his wife finished 1st overall female and 9th overall, I finished 8th overall and 1st in my age group, and DW finished 3rd in her age group.

My prevoius 5k race PR was 24:49 and non-race was 24:11. I finished Saturday's race in 23:29!!!!! Best part is I felt so good throughout the run.

I have a half marathon this weekend that I'm running with my baby brother. It'll be his 1st half and he asked me to pace him. He's a super fast runner (ran Saturday's 5k in just over 20 minutes), but he has a lot of trouble properly pacing himself on long runs. He wanted me to help pace him for his first half. We're excited!

Awesome job - you and the family! What did you say before.... wouldn't it be funny if you did really well and weren't really trying to? Yep, funny stuff!! ;)

That's exactly what I was thinking! I have a half this upcoming weekend so I went into this race just thinking.....run whatever your body says to run. If it's 9mm, so be it. If it's 7mm.....ok, my body would never speak such silliness, but I just listened and didn't try to overdo it. It was the funnest 5k I've run so far just because I was so relaxed.

Brandon~WTG on your 5K! You've got a running family for sure. :thumbsup2

Funny thing is outside of my younger brother, none of us ran in school. We all played sports so running was part of it: baseball and basketball for me, softball for DW, and soccer for DSIL. My baby brother ran the mile in high school and finished second in state with a 5 minute flat mile. DD11 is running the mile now in middle school.

My dad started running in his late 30's and was regularly running 5k's and 10k's until he tore his knee up in a skiing accident about 10 years ago. Now he just does 3 miles a few times a week very slowly on the treadmill. I do regret I didn't start running with him when he was able to do so. We're a competitive family so each of us pushes the other.

My SIL was about to sneak up and "chick" me in the last half mile until I noticed her and kicked it a little to beat her by about 10 seconds.

Brandon, ha, that's funny about you and your SIL.

Is your daughter on the track team? My 13 yr old son is on his middle school track team right now.

She is. I feel bad for her because she is the slowest kid on the team. I posted a story a few weeks ago about her 1st meet. She runs the mile and she still had 1/2 a lap to go when the next to last place finisher crossed the line. About 10 of her teamates ran across the infield and ran alongside her until she finished. The entire team was cheering her on like she was about to win. I felt bad for her being so slow, but I was so proud of her for toughing it out. She never walked one time and maintained a consistent, albeit slow pace. My wife, who is also a distance runner and I agreed she may never be fast, but she's got the ability to be a distance runner.

Sorry, I'm sure I saw your post about her meet.

Aw, well as you know the ones who are like her are sometimes THE most inspirational to those around them. She is probably one of the youngest on the team at age 11 in middle school? That's great her team rallied around her. I am sure you are very proud! :)

We are very proud! One of the coaches even commented on how she never walked and she was only a 6th grader.

I finally got out for a run tonight! I am finally able to breathe again and the crud is gone, so I headed out for a 30 minute run.

UGH, it was NOT pretty. First off, I had planned on going to the gym to run on the treadmill, but my dog looked so excited when she saw me in my running gear that I decided t the last minute to run the neighborhood with her. My first flaw was I started off too fast and couldn't maintain it. I normally do a 2 minute run, 1 minute walk. I was doing 1:15 run, 1:45 walk pretty consistently, so finally about halfway through I just flipped my intervals to 1:2. I think until I get my groove back, I'm going to have to do 1:1 intervals.

I also wasn't able to go as far as I normally was going on a 30 minute run. I guess I wasn't prepared for how badly my endurance had slipped with not being able to run for over a month. But, I got out there, right? And that, at least, felt good!

The good thing is you got back out there! It should come back to you relatively fast. Sometimes shaking the cobwebs is the worst part.

Jennie~WTG on getting out there again! I envy you that you got that first run out of the way. I haven't run in 2 months 1 week now. :crazy2: Stupid injuries!!! I'm going to have to do the C25K again! Lol!

So what do the Ducks think about all the runDisney excitement?! Paris Half? WDW 10K? Dopey? Exciting stuff! And I want to do it ALL. lol

Hey Ducks. I've got another half tomorrow. It'll be my 2nd half this month. I'm praying the weather will cooperate. I have ran a half before in pouring down rain and tornado sirens. I'd rather not do that again if possible. Anyway, I'm running the Bainbridge Half with my little brother. It'll be his first half. He blows me away in short distance races. Now we're in my element! :thumbsup2

Seriously, I wouldn't be surprised if he blows me away in this race too. I just hope he finished uninjured. He has a tendency to go out and overdo it because he is such a strong runner.

It seems exciting, but I think I will just stick with the half.
Great job everyone on your recent races & good luck Ducks running events soon.
I'm still doing some running and swimming. I have a half marathon to do in 3 weeks, so it's time to step it up. The weather is turning and I'm hoping to finally get a run outside this weekend.
I had a good weekend at WDW the food kiosks for Flower & Garden were a big hit. Dole Whip with spiced rum is my new favorite ice cream flavor.:cool1:
My parents pootered out by 4:30 on Saturday at Epcot, so I spent some time with Morgan for Illuminations and then we met our way to MK to see the end of Wishes neat the new Tangled bathrooms which the greatest bathrooms on property.
Have a good weekend everyone.

Joe

With the new announcement, I'm switching from doing the half to doing the 10k (and 5k). I'm very excited about this addition to marathon weekend. My body much prefers the shorter distance--especially my groin! :thumbsup2 And getting a Minnie medal will be very cool. ::MinnieMo I received a really nice hug from Minnie while at Hollywood Studios on Sunday. I think it was a sign. pixiedust:

Obviously we did a lot of walking while in WDW, but I'm ready to get back to running. I've lost 5 pounds since I got back on track and I want to keep the momentum going. But this dang Disney cold I picked up in the World is hanging around like an unwanted guest. It's in my chest and lots of coughing is involved so running is kind of out of the question at the moment. Hoping it goes away soon.

Hope everyone has a magical weekend! :grouphug:

Did you try everything? We tried quite a few things. I took pictures to post in my trip report. My favorite by far was the Spring Pancake with Grilled Chicken and Green Apple in China. I want another one now!

My plan was to try everything, but after trying the baked goat cheese brie with kumquat chutny (AWESOME!) and the tomatoes with mozzarella cheese, then my Dad wanted to know when we were getting a real lunch. So I through my plans out the window and had lunch at the France bakery. Later in the evening I went back with Morgan and tried the pork taco & tequila shots in Mexico, first time drinking tequila, not a fan. While waiting for Illuminations we had the pulled pig slider, beef brisket and the brownie with chocolate mousse, all very good.
I'm trying to convince Debbie that we need to go back so she can see the new and improved Flower & Garden Festival. Still working on my angle.

LOL I hope you can come up with something good!

I had the caprese salad and it was good. My kids wanted a real lunch too so they ate in Morocco. Chuck thought everything was too pricey. I think I had the pork taco. I also had the crab tostata. And the boys had the frushi which they liked.

Tequila is rough! I'm not a fan either. Tequila makes people do crazy things...
