Have you ever been underwhelmed?

I think it has a lot to do with timing. Our last trip to FQ was this way for us. The kids had been to Disney several times before and were at the age of not riding the stars but bored of the kids rides. They were not excited for anything "new". We had just gotten back from St. Martin where we had a condo on the beach for a week. POFQ seemed like a huge letdown.

That being said we were worried last year with CR as our vacation. The kids didn't express a lot of interest before we left, but it turned out to be our best trip ever. The oldest rode all the stars (after acting afraid until she got to the front of the line) and the youngest rode everything with virtually no lines. The ability to walk to MK at any time (and not ride the busses back late at night waiting) was well worth the extra magic as well.

When people say they don't care for a resort's theme, room decor, etc. do they never look at photos and videos before they go. :confused3

Sadly that's what made me upset. I thought the WL was so cozy looking but being there as a guest and not just walking the grounds was a totally different experience. I hope to try all Deluxe and Mods - You never know until you try!

Poly ... it was years & year ago and I really hadn't researched anything about it besides location, but for the price we paid I was like "Huh ... I have to to walk how far to get to my room?" And then it seemed very drab. I was just expecting a lot more for the $$$$$. I didn't have kids back then ... I think I would be willing to try it again with kids (and a room request ... didn't know about room requests).

We have stayed at the Poly 3x, GF 1x, OKW 3x, CBR 2x, ASM 1x, ALL STAR SPORTS 1x,
PORR 2x, AKL 2x, AKK 1x, SSR 4x. Each Resort is UNIQUE in it's own way to us. We enjoyed our stays at all of them. Our first trip was in 4/1973 for our honeymoon, and we stayed at what used to be the Royal Inn that is now the Royal Plaza near DTD. We had to ride their bus back and forth on their schedule, and did not like that. Every trip since we stay on site. We are now DVC MEMBERS , and so far have enjoyed each DVC RESORT we have stayed at.
Our next trip is 12/21-1/2/2014, and we will be enjoying a 2 BR at SSR for that entire trip with our 2 DD, 1 SIL, 2 DGS. We are really looking forward to it!!!:cheer2::cool1:

We have also stayed at VWL 3 times, and loved it. The only problem was the blackbirds outside of RF restaurant. They attacked one ladies sandwich when she walked away for about 1 minute. So, remember to guard your food when eating outside there. We also saw a teenage girl holding her hot dog out, have it snatched by a seagull on the Boardwalk!! :rotfl2:

I've never been underwhelmed by any of the resorts I've stayed at. I didn't care for ASMo, but it had more to do with my taste and preferences. My expectations for a value resort were met but not exceeded.

I was underwhelmed by AKL. The room felt dirty and despite having a savannah view, we really only saw animals twice looking from our balcony.

DS8 is a huge Toy Story fan and wanted to stay at ASMO. It was his birthday trip a few years back and we allowed him to choose the resort - ASMO. The online videos and photos looked cute with the Toy Story characters, but the room was very plain and dingy looking. We stayed two nights to give DS the experience and then checked out to move to CSR. We called MS and took whatever room was available.

The only reason we don't ever stay at a resort that we have already stayed at, is because we want to stay at as many Disney resorts possible while we can still travel. We have never stayed at a Disney resort that we would never stay at again. And we would recommend any and all of them to others.

But it doesn't mean we don't have our favorites. My wife's favorite is the Poly mine the WL. Our next resort will be the AKL before we head out on the Disney Dream.

Next year we will be on the Fantasy, with the Disney resort yet to be determined that we will be staying at ahead of time.

POR ... Honestly I don't understand the raves about it but maybe it's just me ;) we stayed there but I wasn't a huge fan. I would go back if price was right but I felt eh

We also have stayed WL and AKL x2. There is a part of me that thinks I just got too used to deluxe lol

This. We loved Pofq, but when our youngest turned 3, we officially needed a room for five, so we figured that POR made sense. There were so many raves, but the bussing there was absolutely horrible. We drove on our trip to Pofq, and the buses were great, so we never used out car. So, we flew to our trip at POR and figured we wouldn't need a car. Big mistake! We woukd have used our car everyday if we had one, due to how bad the bussing was.

I was also not happy that despite making a room request on our reservation, we literally got stuck out in the most remote AB building. My kids didn't even get to go to the main pool, because they would have turned blue to get back to our room. We were so far from the main building, that out refillable mugs were barely used. The bussing and remote location of our room really soured our stay at POR. I had hoped we would love it since it's the most economical choice do a family of five. Dh said that next time we still try deluxe, but the prices are scary. I think we will end up staying off site next time. Oh and housekeeping at por left a lot to be desired, even with us giving tips.

We were underwhelmed with GF in December. Too much foot traffic and we did not get the area we requested. In fact, we got the exact opposite of what we requested. Transportation was a problem for us. When using an ECV, you can't use the boat so when the Monorail is down, everyone using an ECV must use the bus. The Monorail was down a portion of every day that we were there.

The first time we went to WDW, we booked POR because of all the great reviews. Our room was horrible, dirty and the mattress was the worst I have ever tried to sleep on.

On the flip side, we have always had wonderful experiences at CBR with rooms and transportation. We are also really crazy about WL and miss it when we don't stay there.

I only ever stayed at two resorts and we'll stick with the WL which we love.
But we did do a tour around some of the other resorts when we were there on previous trips and the CR totall not impressed me. It didn't look themed, it didn't look nice or even just luxurious just boring.... The lobby looked like an average trainstation like we have them here in the Netherlands, shops around, high ceiling and even a train.

We looked and based on video's and foto's I was considering teh Poly last year. But when we went there on a short visit and did a walk-around before dinner we didn't like it that much. In real life we just didn't feel the love, the "I want to stay here!". The feel you get from a flat picture or video is something different from the real thing ( for me anyway).

I guess everyone is different, not sure I have ever been in love with a hotel, I reserve that for humans. If the photos show me room decor and lobby etc. and it looks like that when I arrive, that is all I expect.

We were underwhelmed when we stayed in the Sugar Loaf CL building at the GF last month. The rooms and lounge were nice, but having stayed CL at the YC and Poly (and many other hotels around the country) we expected to be "wowed" by what is supposed to be Disney's flagship resort - just didn't happen. We came back to our room around 4:30 one afternoon and found the beds stripped, and a laundry bag full of the dirty linens and towels in the bathroom - no housekeeper in sight anywhere on our floor. Thankfully, it was not the usual housekeeper, who did an outstanding job every other day.

Yes...this isn't about a Disney Vacation but a cruise. For our 25th wedding anniversary, we renewed our vows. We booked a West Coast wine cruise from Vancouver, BC to San Diego in September. We paid a lot of money for a balcony cabin. We walked into our room - the slider glass was dirty and the last person's clothing were still in the closet. What a disappointment. I called. They came and apologized perfusely.

We had very good service and enjoyed our cruise but because I had such high expectations...I was let down.

We will book with the same cruise line again in the future because of the service.

We have stayed at WL, GF, Poly, POR, CR, AKL, BLT and BWI. While we love CR, we underwhelmed with BLT. Nice enough but not exciting. The space was great. AKL we flat did not like. I think it was our room assignment as the view was horrible and I had paid for a savanna. I have read somewhere that the rooms where we were have since been reclassified somehow. Anyway, we asked to be moved back to the Poly which was our favorite....until this last time at the BWI. LOVE IT!

We've stayed at SSR, POFQ, CBR, POP (a few times) and Swan. I know, Swan is not actually a Disney property, but we loved the easy access to Epcot, the comfy beds, as well as the pool. However, the hotel itself did not impress. It was just not "special", had mobs of convention people, and the hallways were pretty shabby. So mixed feelings on that one! Loved all the rest, though.
In June we are trying AKV with a split-stay at CSR.

I was under whelmed by CSR - twice. Never again. Staff was great. Set up, distances, and food court - disappointing.

I have not stayed there, but walking around AoA - so under whelmed. I wanted to LOVE it. WE LOVE Pop...love the huge theming and the vibe of it. Pop feels like a community to us. AoA seemed very disjointed. And, this may sound weird, but I hated that you could see the parking lot when walking from the main building to LM section. There were barely any trees...it was just wide open and uncomfortable for me. At Pop, we meander around, trees shade the paths, etc. AoA was like, to me, a new housing development in a booming suburb - no trees, no character, no soul...
