Doing my first trip "home" in May and when I made Resv told CM that we will be celebrating my DD 22nd birthday while there. I don't see this under "view/change celebrations" Should I double check with a phone call? Will they do anything for her ? When doing std Disney rooms in the past there has been buttons , balloons, special towel creatures. We will be spending day at EC and I know I can go to guest services and get button and such ,but just wondering about DVC at OKW. Thanks

Since housekeepers have a bigger job cleaning DVC villas, you don't get many towel animals. And I'd prefer they stick to cleaning rather than being artists on my dollar (we pay their salaries).

If you want anything more than the button and a "happy birthday" here and there, you really need to pay for that. Lots of DVC members celebrate their birthday, anniversary, etc at a DVC resort every day.

LOL Well I don't need the towel creatures anymore, but I bet some vacationers would like them ! Guess i am now paying their salaries too but I wouldn't mind that Disney touch for families with young ones:thumbsup2
In general I was asking if there is anything they are going to do since they asked if we were having any special celebrations while there.:scratchin

No, I would not plan on anything from them. For really young children I have seen them give a balloon at check in but that is about it.

For an adult, I would plan on making your own arrangements for anything you would like.

While in the THV several times we have gotten character signed birthday cards with photopass gift cards.

If you want special occasion magic, you need to make your own arrangements. Anything on top of that is truly magical.

Thanks to both of you. Exactly what I needed to know :thumbsup2

Recognition can be hit or miss, usually miss at the resorts other than saying happy birthday if a CM sees the button.

42 million visitors per year at WDW, my guess is that everyone is celebrating something.

Often the CM at check-in will notice the celebration info on the reservation and hand the guest a birthday button. We have also received a character-signed birthday card in the room. It appeared one day while we were out of the room. No towel animals or balloons though.

On our anniversary trip we got a call from Mickey and Minnie wishing us a happy anniversary.

Sometimes the birthday person will be treated to a free dessert when dining at a TS restaurant. That has happened to us a couple of times over the years.

We listed anniversary as our celebrating occasion in 2011.
When we checked into to BLT at CR, we didn't get anything; we picked up buttons at MK.
We had a celebratory dinner at California Grill and they brought us a dessert.
Another evening we were hanging out on TOWL with my parents and a few other family members and a CM approached us and asked us if it was out anniversary (no buttons on) and we said yes. She told us to head down to the boat dock for a complimentary firework pontoon boat ride (politely asked to provide a tip to the boat driver). We headed down and took the boat ride with 2 other couples celebrating their anniversaries as well. We saw the electrical parade and then got into position for fireworks. It was quite magical :).
My husband said, "looks like we'll never be able to top this!". It was our first anniversary :goodvibes
We didn't expect anything special, but what we got we knew was a once in random chance experience!

My husband and I celebrated our birthdays this past January at the Boardwalk. The front desk gave us buttons and we got a voicemail from Mickey Mouse when we got to our room that night;)

My husband got tired of everyone wishing him "Happy Birthday", so he stopped wearing his button on the second day... I got the "grey stuff" at Be Our Guest since I was still wearing mine:thumbsup2

This is what I'm hoping for ...one less stop at GS at EC ! Free dessert would be awesome also !

We got extra housekeeping on my husband's birthday last year when we were staying in AKV - Jambo.

My parents also had a 6 pack of beer show up in their fridge on their anniversary.

that the Hilton Head Island resort does a nice job with engagements and birthdays. Ballons and a card for both- nice surprise

Haven't celebrated a Birthday at Disney in years, but for some fairly recent anniversaries, OKW delivered a small balloon/flower vase with a character autographed card. Nothing super duper, but it is a nice and appreciated gesture.

Very nice::yes:: Thank you

My dd just turned 10 last June at Vero Beach. It was our first trip as DVC members too. Dd had a card signed by Mickey and Goofy waiting in our room along with an Eeyore pin. I don't think that's the norm though.

We've celebrated 2 birthdays at Hilton Head. Both times got balloons and birthday cards. At BLT, my daughter got a birthday button (as well as a "Just Engaged" button from the wonderful CM, because it was PINK) and tons of stickers. No balloons there. :)

Last year we celebrated our anniversary at Boardwalk. We received a very nice treat of chocolate covered strawberries and a anniversary card.

Our daughter celebrated her tenth there a number if years ago. They went all out and she received a tableful of treats...she had written Mickey a card and she received a picture of Mickey holding her card...a disney book, balloons, a picture frame. Our son also received a few things. That one was over the Topeka. I would never expect that type of a response but we sure were happy to received it!

Nothing is guaranteed. Sometimes the pixie dust falls and sometimes you just have to be happy you are at WDW,

We've received the birthday/anniversary etc buttons on check in and a call from Mickey on my daughters birthday. At California grill where we celebrated her 21st birthday she got a dessert with a candle
