Hello all and welcome to our trip report.

We have written reports for our WDW trips but never a cruise. We have taken two cruises in the past with Carnival but really wanted to try DCL so we took the plunge. We booked a 4 night cruise on the Dream leaving on March 3rd and returning the 7th. After that we will spend a few days in Kissimee with DWs parents, who rented a house for a month.

First off some introductions. Our son Declan

We will celebrate his 12th birthday on this trip, although his birthday is actually 2 days after we get off the ship. He has been to WDW 6 times before this trip and like us is a huge fan. He loves the cruises and is really looking forward to taking his grandparents to MK for their first visit.

DW or here on the Dis, pooksma and myself.

DW is a teacher and I work in sport administration. We have become huge WDW fans since our first family trip in 2004. You won't see many pictures of either of us on this report. I am usually behind the camera and DW prefers not to be in front of it.

The planning for this trip just after our March Break cruise last year on Carnival. We decided that we wanted to do another March Break trip and after examining some options decided that a Disney Cruise was our best option. We contacted our trusty TA Liz Lombardo and early April we were booked on the March 3rd sailing of the Dream in cabin 10166.

Over the next few months we made flight arrangements, first booking a flight down with Delta out of Portland Maine taking us to Melbourne Florida and awhile later finding a good deal on the return flight with Jet Blue out of Orlando.

We booked rental cars for the day before the cruise and for the few days after. Eventually we also decided on the Hampton Inn in Cocoa Beach for the night before the cruise.

We the major plans out of the way, we spend the next few months watching the Port Canaveral webcam, reading about excursions and counting down the days until we would be on our way.

Back a little later to add some more to this trip.

awesome! Can't wait to hear more :) And it will be especially interesting since you've done Carnival before to hear your reaction/ observation of the differences :thumbsup2

Thanks for joining in. We did make some comparisons and I will add those add the end of the report.

or I don't want to do that again. ;)

Friday March 1st had finally arrived and we were all looking forward to getting underway. It was the last day of school before the Break and DW and DS still had a full day of school. (The Province doesn't like it when teachers take the day off before a major break.) We were up at our normal time and I dropped everyone off. I also had to take my MIL and her sister to the airport later as they were flying to Orlando to meet up with my FIL who drove down earlier in the week.

By mid afternoon I was picking everyone up and getting tha last minute errands taken care of, picking up some dinner and getting home to wait for my nephew who was coming to look after our dog and cat while we took our trip.

We had decided to drive through the night to the airport in Portland, which usually takes between 5 and 6 hours. It didn't seem to make a lot of sense to pay for a hotel for 4 or 5 hours and then be up and heading to the airport for a 6:30 am flight. It seemed like a good idea at the time. I figured I would get a couple of naps in on Friday and would be good to go later that night.

Well the naps didn't really happen,as much as I tried I just couldn't do it. So around 10:30 pm we loaded up, I grabbed a coffee and a 5 hour energy drink and headed out. The weather was good and the driving wasn't bad so we made decent time and were in Portland around 4 am so we grabbed a quick bite at McDonalds. It took a little longer to drive than usual because I took my time. I only needed 2 coffee, 1 coke and the energy drink to get there. :rotfl2:

Our flight was fairly full and there were a few people from home on the flight, including a few who were also on the cruise. We made it to Atlanta and had some time for some breakfast, actually it was lunch at TGI Fridays, before catching the next flight for the short hop to Melbourne. As we approched Melbourne we could see the Fantasy and a couple of other ships at the Port. It was pretty cool. Upon landing we had our bags and car quickly and were headed for the hotel within 15 minutes.

We crossed over to the A1A right away and travelled up to the Hampton Inn in Cocoa Beach. It was the first time we had ever been this way and it was cool to see everything.

We found the Hampton Inn without a problem, checked in and made our way to the 7th floor to our room. When we got to the room, we realized we were all getting tired but not all that hungry yet. We had planned on making our way to Fishlips for some food and to watch the ships leave and it was almost time for the first ship to head out. We decided to head over and just get some appetizers and some drinks. We could worry about food later on if we were hungry. :rotfl:

Drove over to the port and got a spot upstairs at Fishlips. The temperature was pretty cool so we sat inside. Shortly after ordering, the first of the two Carnival ships headed out. We went out on the deck and watched.

The Carnival Ecstasy.

We were on her sister ship, the Paradise, last year.

After that came the Carnival Dream. I assume all generators were working at the time.;)

Somewhere along the way, DS got hit with some flying pelican poop spray. Not a direct hit but it was funny. It could have been one of these guys:

Some other guests asked me later if he was coming back to watch some more or if he was traumatized by the incident. :rotfl2:

The last ship to leave that afternoon was the Fantasy. We were pretty excited to see her as it would give a us pretty good idea as to what to expect with the Dream.

I took this one to get an idea as to where our cabin was on the Dream.

After that we finished up our food and headed out. I would recommend this restaurant if you are looking for a place in PC. Great food and service.

We made a stop at the Publix to pick up some snacks and drinks for the cruise and headed back to the hotel. I think by about 8 pm we were all asleep. I mean it was only about 36 hours straight for me so why would I be tired? :lmao:

Next up - embarkation day.

Thank you so much for the heads up!!! Great start and love the pics...especially the one of you and pooksma cause I'm quite certain I know I won't see many of her on this:rotfl2: Please give my friend a big hug from me....we sure did miss you guys on our last trip!

I'm onboard too!! Can't wait to hear all about this trip. Can't believe how grown up that handsome son of yours is! So glad to see a pic of the two of you as well. I would have fallen asleep in my soup if I had been up for 36 hours! You are such an inspiration:rotfl2:

Glad to have you both along. Declan has spurted up over the last year. This time last year he was shorter than both of us and know he has just about gone past me. Check this out.

I am scheduled to be in Winnipeg for some meetings around the 10th of June. It would be great to see you all when I'm out there.
