WL....tips on avoiding a loading dock view?

Hi there

Just looking online at some pics of WL and found some with a terrifying view....a loading dock!!! I'm sure it's a risk you take when you take a woods view room, but does anyone have any tips on how to avoid such a view?

well the other side is a view of VWL

most of the time by the time it gets to where the woods view - it is also in courtyard view.

that say NEVER seem the boats that busy. now to end of the dock - but back on the sidewalk - no

Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear. I'm not concerned about the boats that come in, that would be a lovely view actually. I'm concerned about the loading dock where shipping and receiving comes in...food trucks, linens, maintenance, etc.

Post #2 has good descriptions of all the different views. Basically, you do NOT want a Standard View.

FWIW, we stayed CL at WL last year in a room that would probably be classified as a standard view room....when we looked down and to the left, there were loading docks and the smokehouse.

When we looked forward and out (which I prefer to do ) we saw this...

Beautiful lemonade for those lemons, KWIM.

And we heard no noise from the loading docks, but could hear the boats.

The standard view has the greatest chance of getting the loading dock. If you book the standard view, then ask for south wing. The loading dock is on the north side. If you book a woods view room, then you have less of a chance of getting anywhere near the loading dock. We booked the woods view room and asked for 5th floor or higher. We got a room on the sixth floor overlooking the water. We could see the castle and some slightly obscured fireworks from our room.

We have a standard view booked, same as last year. Then we had a view of the loading dock, if we looked down that is. If we looked straight ahead we saw trees and at night much of the fireworks.

To be honest it never bothered us. I'd be quite happy with the same room actually

I have never stayed there but my best suggestion is if you know you don't want a loading dock view then pay for an upgraded view. If you only pay for a standard view you may very well end up looking at the loading dock. Somebody has to. They have to fill those rooms too. That is why they have many different categories of rooms you can book. For ppl who want a good view there are room options for that like water view or garden view. With a standard view you are going to be looking at something undesirable like a parking lot most of the time.

I personally wouldn't care what my view was. I would only prefer a preferred room close to the lobby and food. And I pay for that.

I agree! I've seen photos of the roof views, and that has to be one of the worst views you could possibly get, not to mention extremely hot during warm weather with the heat bouncing off that metal roof.

If you don't want the possibility of being over the loading area, then don't book a standard view. There's a reason the standard view rooms are the cheapest rooms at WL! I usually book woods view, and I've always been happy with my views.

I've stayed at WL three times on the Standard View. Loved the room each time. I was on the 6th floor twice and the 7th floor once. Could see the loading dock. So what. Could ALSO see the Contemporary, Castle, and nightly fireworks.

On my last trip, I had booked a Woods view and it was on the 1st floor, was a HA room and was just awful. I ended up being moved and got upgraded to a Courtyard View room. While the view was lovely, I did NOT like facing the couryard at all. I tried to nap in the afternoons and could not, due to the Pool Party and its obnoxiously loud music CM emcee. In addition, the boats were quite loud and disturbed me.

We are returning to WL for our next trip. I actually wanted to book Standard, but they were all out, so I settled for Woods View. I asked to be on an upper floor. I just want it to be QUIET!

I like the loading dock view because it's also a Wishes view.

It's only a loading dock view if you are sitting on the balcony looking down.

The loading dock isn't a loading dock like you'd see at your local trucking company with unruly stacks of pallets and rusty barrels and such.

The smokehouse is out there and you occasionally see a truck pull in.

OP, sounds like the woods view is a good decision. If I stayed at WL again (stayed twice once standard and once courtyard) I would not book a standard. We overlooked the loading dock and the trucks started around 6:00 a.m. every day beeping. I could definitely hear the trucks through the closed door. I thought the view was just ugly. There probably was woods beyond the loading dock and smokehouse, but all I could see was the aforementioned dock and smokehouse. It has been a number of years since I stayed in the standard view, so maybe the trucks aren't so bad but personally I wouldn't book standard view.

Maybe if you and your family are sound sleepers and you don't use the balcony it might be a consideration but personally I disliked it a lot.
