Bye-bye 2D animation...

I love 2d animation. That quote from lasseter was the first time I ever heard anyone within the industry say it.

"2D became the excuse for poor storytelling"

Watching the movies with my kids it all seemed to start going down hill when they started hiring famous people to do the voices. Beuuty and the beast was excellent (no famous voices that i am aware of) Lion king was good(famous vaoices), Tarzan not so much(famous voices) and it all went downhill from there.

Sad, think there is room for both even if I did prefer Tangled over P&TF. I didn't think either was spectacular but I just threw up in my mouth a little knowing that Bolt did better than P&TF.

Angela Lansbury is the voice of Mrs. Potts. She was pretty famous back then. Jerry Orbach did the voice of Lumiere, too.

nicely to some story lines but my brother is an annimator and worked on 2 Disney movies. 3D simply cannot match the emotional connection that 2D can. It always looks artificial. I was glad they did P&TF in 2D.

3D is more expensive and gives the studios nothing to sell after the movies is completed (cels) but once done the models created can be recycled to make sequels at a cost savings...these are usually direct to 'video'.

I think they man "pop star" famous. Angela and Jerry are of a different knit.

None of the the main characters for Beauty and the Beast were new or unknown actors, with the exception of Paige O'Hara as Belle.

Robby Benson was the voice of Beast/Prince Adam

David Ogden Stiers was Cogsworth.

Even the Wardrobe was Jo Anne Worley.

And you already mentioned Mrs. Potts and Lumiere.

Still agreed, but again none of these actors fit with the more current trend of casting big (young) names and advertising the movie on their involvement. This was advertised as Disney's Beauty and the Beast. The actors showed up in the credits, but (to my memory) not on the poster.

I think you can make a great film either way, though. Pixar has sold movies on the names attached to the voices, but has yet to let me down.

Glad they mentioned Paperman - which was an EXCELLENT Drawn-computer-animated short. After we saw it I commented to DW that it maintained the "feel" of the classic Disney 2D but with some very creative use of computer animation techniques. It was my favorite short since the old-man playing chess vs. himself that ran before Bugs Life.
