Changes coming to Downtown Disney?

I don't think they need to make a new version of the Adventurer's Club into solely "a bar". By doing it right ...Disney could roll in the AC theme with a supper club type atmosphere including the evening entertainment in the "library". If the theming is done right AND they provide a nice meal along with the entertainment I'm sure it would be a hit......anyone at Disney listening??

I read that Cap'n Jacks is the only confirmed closure so far. Can anyone confirm that and/or a closure date?

So you find something that supports your argument, and I find something that supports mine. Back to square one.

Omg...and if you click the links...it leads you back to where it says GUESTS OF SELECT WALT DISNEY WORLD RESORT HOTELS.

Those are the Disney run, swan and dolphin, excluding hotel plaza boulevard.

You can accept either:
1. The actual policy in print - that has never changed
2. My work experience in Resorts
3. Common sense that Disney - nor any non-public transportation provider - would not be interested in providing buses, fuel, drivers, management, training, benefit costs, and insurance for those spending for lodging...or those that just stop by for a couple of hours and park for free...or perhaps those that give money to outside hotels and then park for free...indiscriminately?

I'm not telling anyone to not ride the bus...I'm simply asking that we stop trying to interpret the English language

Buses are for Disney hotel patrons...that is why they start at hotels and end at parks/downtown. That is why they no longer run from park to park or park to downtown...to discourage outside use.

Its a perk...they want your money...all of it. They do not wish for you to stay at nickelodeon, or hard rock, or the days inn in BVL. Many things are grey...this is not. Let it go.

I suppose you would want to interpret magical express too?
Come on, I'm trying to keep it on the high road here...help me out :)

Actually...I was too generous...

Per Disney's website:
"Complimentary transportation is available for guests staying at SELECT DISNEY RESORT HOTELS"

the one exception is to get from the parking lot at magic kingdom over the lagoon...

It would be nice to think that Disney is "Kumbaya" and is in to giving hops to EPCOT to those that want "discounted" parking...but it is not so.

The Saratoga hop is not legal.
If you want to be honest...it's stealing (harsh but true)

A few years ago I was talking to a fellow traveler, that thought he was so clever in avoiding parking charges. He said park at DTD hop on a bus to a resort then from the resort bus it to a park. I was thinking that not only cheating the system but a huge time waster. I am sure Disney knows people do it at the same time knowing what a hassle to play that game.

I agree...in fact I thought if any leverage was gained by those that have very passionately expressed their dedication to PI...here and many other places...
It MIGHT result in a restaurant take on Adventures.

But I haven't seen anything this locks that down yet.

The problem is that the club was Disney run..:and they are looking to dump the operation as much as possible (except the holy WOD).

So it seems unlikely that a third party vendor will bail them out on this.

And that is probably why it is in the end so pointless to enforce...

And maybe while you take a two hour circuitous route from the west side to MGM...you get hungry and drop some clams on some beignets at port Orleans?

Win/win there

That's up there with giving away "nontransferable" FastPasses being illegal in terms of silliness.

I can think of a number of other "exceptions" as well. Park-to-park buses, monorails, boats, parking trams (if you want to get really literal) would be a few.

Disney isn't running a gulag concerned with enforcement of rules, they are running a resort concerned with the happiness of guests.

I'm sorry...I missed this earlier.

I would have ended the argument.

Because the last sentence explains a lot...

The Walt Disney World Company, a publicly traded company, recognized as a Industry leader with a spot in the prestigious Dow 30...

Is a worldwide leader in family entertainment that provides value to its shareholders and longterm growth and financial success and stability.

Most notable within the Disney family are the successful ESPN family of networks, Highly acclaimed Pixar animation studios, our worldwide family of theme parks (lead by our flagship location - the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Fl), and recent acquisitions of world renown characters and products of Marvel Entertainment and Lucasfilm Ltd.

They are NOT running a
Resort concerned with "guest happiness"...they are running one of their primary revenue centers concerned with maximizing guest EXPENDITURES, CUSTOMER
LOYALTY, and GUARANTEED FUTURE REVENUE.

If "happiness" is a tool to those goals so be it...if those goals are gotten/enhanced through other means...no biggie.

Sorry to jack the thread...but sometimes it happens.

the main issue is people ridding the SSR busses from the parks in the afternoon/evening, and especially night hours. fills up the SSR busses BIG TIME - they need to do something about this... oh I know... run busses FROM the parks to DTD starting in the afternoons (dropoff only)

Yes or get the bus drivers at SSR to randomly ask to see disney room keys. I also notice there are quite often CM at the bus stops at SSR with clip boards. Why not use them? Our home resort is SSR and whilst I am not usually one to moan I am disabled and me and DW found ourselves waiting at the bus stops for so long due to others from other resorts ( we don't mind from other resorts just those from the non disney hotels ) that we ended up renting a car! Then parking at the Parks. We know they were from the other hotels ( mostly downtown disney ) because we heard them saying that is what they were doing.

Because happy guests lead to higher profits quicker than guests told that they can't get on a bus somewhere to go spend more money.

Done here.

As some people go to great lengths to avoid parking fees maybe there is a reason i.e. they can't afford it. So with this is mind why not introduce a park and ride system where the car park is free but maybe a longer bus ride from the parks. Then the pay parking outside each park can remain as preferred parking. At least people have a choice then. There is obviously some reason people do this. Why not just organise it by either providing buses from DTD but I fear at present there is not enough parking. A remote parking lot with free parking and buses would be ideal. Suit every budget.

I don't want to call out anyone but in reference to another thread on this subject, locals are the main violators as they don't have free parking as part of there annual pass.

Regarding checking room keys- once mydisneymagic fully implemented and key is simply a brightly colored wristband with distinctive mouse ear logo, bus drivers may start checking b/c no longer a hassle to make everyone dig into pocket, purse, etc.

New parking area-- more buss's-- more fuel-- for free-- they can just raise the park admission to pay for it---

Yes good point!

This is true. The number of people who work the system to avoid paying $14 to park is small enough that it's not worth the expense in trying to extinguish it. It's as simple as that.

BobK/Orlando

Guess you are not an owner staying at SSR and trying to get on bus at night and get a seat.(and more than half the bus gets off at the last stop)
Thats the logic of cheaters who does it hurt?

Why should Disney go out of their way, creating new costs, for customers who, if they can't afford parking, aren't likely then to be buying turkey legs, mickey bars, t-shirts, pins, etc. once they are in the parks?

I can see the logic of what you are saying and I think that is why parking is not free full stop. I was just trying to be inclusive. Plus trying to get the burden away from SSR. as trying to get a bus from my home resort of SSR we watched lots of non resort guests get on first whilst we waited 45 mins gave up and drove. Even though there was a CM there with a clip board who knew what was going on. People actually would ask us as we walked where was the bus stop and what is the name of this resort!
