POR vs. POFQ

Is there a big difference between POR and POFQ? I looked at pics online and the POFQ standard rooms seem to look nicer than the POR standard rooms. Does anyone have experience with either resort that would be able to give me an opinion on which was nicer. It's our honeymoon :lovestruc so we want something romantic and quieter.

I know someone who honeymooned at POFQ and they really enjoyed it. It's a small, quaint resort but IMO, that has its drawbacks as well. What time of year are you traveling? We stayed at POR in September and it was extremely quiet. Because POR is so big and spread out, we saw less people it seemed like. POFQ is small so every place felt crowded to us including the food court which is very small and the bus stop since there is only one. I also think the theme at POR may be more "romantic" than the gaudy Mardi Gras theme at POFQ.

These were almost my exact thoughts. We are arriving July 11 for 7 nights. So I think pretty much everywhere will be somewhat crowded unfortunately. My other concern is that I don't want to have to walk super far to get to the food court or buses if I don't have to. That was what made me think of POFQ as an option.

i suggest POR, we've stayed at both and definitely prefer POR. It is bigger than POFQ, but we found the landscaping and decor to be more relaxing at POR than the mardi gras theme. I really enjoyed getting up early and walking from teh mansion section to the food court to get our coffees, it was a peaceful and pretty walk. Also POR has quiet pools in addition to the main feature pool while POFQ only has the main feature pool. I imagine that would be a plus in the summer months when the resorts are busy and the weather is hot.

My dh and I were there for our first adult only trip last Aug. We also loved POR. beautiful landscape and it never felt to crowded at the small pools. We stayed in a preferred room with king bed. It was less than a minute walk to the bus and main building. It was well worth the little extra money. congrats on your wedding and enjoy yourselves!

We stayed at POFQ and loved it. Even though it was July we never felt crowded. Of course we normally make the rope drops each morning and get back after dark so maybe that kept us away from any crowds at the resort.

I also liked the bus situation. When going to the parks the bus stopped at POFQ first so you were pretty much guaranteed a seat. On the way home from the parks POFQ was the first stop and at that point in the day I didn't really want to make several other stops before I got off.

If this is the case then POFQ might suit you better, unless you would be willing to pay for a preferred room at POR. My younger DD and her husband stayed at POFQ on their honeymoon in a king room and loved it.

You could take a look at this thread as well, since it is discussing the same topic:

If you book a preferred room at POR, you will be near the food court and main pool and get to reap the benefits of POR as well. That would be my suggestion :thumbsup2

DH and I stayed at POFQ during our honeymoon in 2007. We were in room 6140. This room was a king room with a river view. It was VERY quiet and not a far walk to the front. This was in the day that we relied on Disney transportation (instead of renting a car, which we now do and it is so much easier) and did not find the bus stop to be far away either.

I'm considering POR for a winter trip next January because I enjoy trying out different resorts and I hope I like it!

Thanks for the input. We would just rent a car and not worry about being close to the buses, but rental companies aren't too thrilled to rent to people under 25. :worried: POFQ sounds like distance wise it's the better option, but I really love the feel of POR, it just seems more romantic.

Ah, I gotcha. We rented a car one day on our honeymoon to go to church. Well...I say "we." Really, DH rented the car. I was under 25 but fortunately, he is 3.5 years older than me and was able to rent the car.

I celebrated my 30th birthday on our trip in January...I don't know where those 6+ years went, I swear!

Time flies. DF and I will both be 23 as of July so no luck with either of us. Oh well at least we won't have to stress about getting lost :rotfl:

We've stayed at both, and I like something about each. They are both great resorts.
At POR we love the landscaping. It's beautiful We always have stayed in the Mansion section, not a fan of the AB rooms with the rustic look. That is where the preferred rooms are.
However we request either Acadian House or Magnolia Terrace close to Old Man Island bridge, and it's close to everything, main pool, food, and there's a bus stop behind Magnolia Terrace, or one very close to Acadian House too. We prefer these to the Main Depot that gets crowded and chaotic.
Also love that POR has quiet pools.

POFQ we just had the pleasure of staying at this past January and enjoyed it there too. We were in Bldg 4 very close to pool, food court and bus stop. Great location. It's a much smaller resort, and we did enjoy our stay. They have pretty courtyards, and walkways, but landscapping isn't as lush as POR, and they don't have quiet pools.

Rooms in both resorts have recently been refurbished, so when looking at pics, be sure you are looking at current ones, not the old rooms. The rooms in both resorts are very nice.

Either resort is nice, just your personal pref. with decor and theming.

Ok I'm feeling a little nutty over here, and I'm sure I'm driving my hubby bonkers with my going back and forth. I'm torn between the two for our December trip. I love how POR looks, but honestly I only want to stay in the mansions. I know that this is a request and it may not be granted. I really don't like anything about Alligator Bayou so I started looking at POFQ. It looks really nice as well, although not as romantic looking as POR. The trip is just my hubby and me. Another thing that has me torn now is what I'm reading about the discounts. I keep seeing that discounts for POFQ are less then for POR. We are hoping to take advantage of the bounceback offer when we go in Sept. Does anyone know if POFQ is also the same discount on the bounceback?

If you like Port Orleans, you will always be stuck between the two resorts. They are both wonderful in their own way.

We alternate between Riverside & French Quarter - and we use the pools & food courts of both - just as if it was one resort. We have stayed in Alligator Bayou (Riverside), but used the POFQ bus on return from MK because it was emptier. The walk over is not that bad.

Good luck in choosing! We never have figured out if we like one better than the other yet! :goodvibes

I was able to get the bb for POFQ for stays in May and October. I think it might not have been quite as much, but am not sure. I was thrilled to get any room only discount at POFQ!! I have the same problem as you with POR and the AB section. I really love POFQ because of the small size. POR is huge!! Good luck with your decision!!

That's what I'm looking for a room only discount. But yea I'm very anxious about the AB section. Not a fan.

Andre keeps a great website www.portorleans.org, that might help you also for deciding.

That's great. I'm going to go check it out. Thanks!

Ok I've made up my mind. I'm going with POR. This is truly where I want I just have to keep my fingers crossed that my request will be granted. I have placed it on the reservation, I guess I will call or fax a few days before the trip. The pics of AB on that Andre's website weren't that bad. It's mostly the room decor that I don't like but oh well. I'll send out positive vibes. :goodvibes

From the sound of it, and looking at current discounts, it seems that while POR usually has 25% off rooms, POFQ only has 5% off. But comparing the prices of like a garden view room at POFQ and a royal guest room garden view at POR, you're not saving more than a $100 or so of I did the math right.
