They usually get larger pellets, but sometimes we give them a small dish with seeds, and it's so funny when they bury the whole dish.

there are some vinylmations that aren't mystery ones, you can trade them though at the stores if its something Angel doesn't like/what!

I have always loved having the hamsters as pets. We don't have gerbils on California. I am not sure why.

So sorry about Chewy. :-(. We don't have any small animals, but we do have 3 dogs and 2 cats an know it would break my heart if anything happened to them.

Michele - Gerbils are illegal in CA, because they would be able to thrive if set free. As pets, they are very similar to hamsters, but a little easier to care for.

Thank you Kristy I'll admit that I didn't think Chewy would make it through the weekend. He's very triumphantly managed to climb up to a high spot once a day for the last 3 days (he used to do it many times a day), as if he's trying to show that he's not giving up. We've known he's been showing his age more & more, but it's still hard. Her other 2 gerbils had sudden health issues, and I think that was harder because it was unexpected.

Michele - Chewy continues to decline. I'm making sure I offer him soft food many times a day, and he's very eager every time but he barely eats. He's noticeably lost weight. He was too weak today to stretch up to his regular water bottle, so DH rigged up a hook so we could lower it. He clammored up to his high spot though, but it definitely took him more effort to do so.

Angel is going to be so excited I've been checking every day to see if a spot opened up for the sea lion excursion. We had decided that if only one spot became available, I would do it with Angel. There were 2 spots available today, so we'll be able to do it as a family like Angel had wanted. For me & DH -this is definitely out of our comfort zone, but I think we'll survive.
