Official 2013 Tower of Terror 10 Miler

Looks like they added more host resorts.
That scares me a little... a sign, perhaps, that they've upped the cap?

so how hard is the course for this race? i havent done many distance races but half the people im working with are doing this race so i was thinking of joining them.
Define "hard" - IMO, 10 miles is nothing to sneeze at, but anyone who's done the training shouldn't have a problem with the distance. It's not technically challenging; a large segment is flat, open highway, two up-and-overs on a cloverleaf count as "hills", and the section through WWOS involved lots of narrow sections with some tight turns. To me, the most difficult thing was staying aware of the many people around me - those tight turns, for instance, were packed full of bodies and inviting collisions.

I'd love to do something from the Twilight Zone since in the future we'll all be wearing spandex leotards according to them...
:rotfl2: So true! Some folks did Tron outfits last year and they were pretty neat - that idea is tempting, but no way can I wear long tights and long sleeves in the heat.

ive run 10 miles before mostly in the military and things like that.. i was more so wondering about hills and how much of it is "off road"... i live in Florida so i know there arent many hills but sometimes you never know

Oh, easy-peasy then! I'm across the bay, in Pinellas  and often run our dirt paths in a number of nature parks - that's about as off-road as TOT was: packed dirt and some gravel. Worst thing about the cloverleaf is its steep camber; brutal on the knees and ankles. But training on FL roads I think helps prep us for that - good luck finding ANY Tampa Bay roadway that isn't steeply crowned for storm water runoff!

I am a little bit confused, I know that you can get somewhat discounted WDW tickets if you are running the race, but are any of the host resorts supposed to be discounted?

They are if you reserve through runDisney. By how much, I don't know, as I either use DVC points or an AP discount, but I know from others that they've gotten discounted rooms throughrunDisney for race trips.

What is the name of the facebook group...I would love to join that!

There are a couple - my favorite is Run Disney So I Can Eat Disney. Is that what you were looking for?

I thught I read there was one for TOT 10 Mile....

Another question. I am not liking my C210K training program and the more I read the Galloway method, I think this might be a good plan. Each week he has long runs scheduled in, does anyone know if when you are doing the long runs are you still doing interval or run/walk?

With Galloway, he recommends run-walk-run for the long runs. I have been following the Galloway program for a year now and really like it. I have cut my half time by 45 mins and am looking forward to setting a new PR for my next marathon.

On the fence about registering for this one. Looks like alot of interest so far. I would love to know the cap for the race.

Sold approx 10,000 entries last year. I have no direct knowledge, but would guess that they up it to 11 or 12k

Yep, it's here: Disney Tower of Terror 10 Miler

Run-walk-run intervals are the hallmark of Galloway's methodology, but one can certainly follow his training plans as strictly a walker or runner. I do intervals for all runs and made a training plan that blends some Galloway and some Hal Higdon attributes. My advice is to take a look at what's out there and find a plan that fits how you run, how you want to run, and your lifestyle. Mix a couple together if you need to! :thumbsup2

At some point (I imagine in the pre-race pep talk?) I remember the runDisney folks saying "almost 12,000" last year, though that may have included the 5K and kids' races, too.

RunDisney is now offering 40% off a 3 Day PH - that's an awesome deal if you don't already have an AP (or are considering one) - I think the price break goes down as you add days and options though.

RunDisney also has slight discounts at the host hotels but I find that I book with them to make sure I have one and then wait for Disney to offer a better room only rate closer to the event - the 25%-35% off that Disney offers is usually better than what RunDisney offers anyway. But all rooms booked through RunDisney are considered "Packages" cuz they add some free mini golf and so the $200 deposit and 45 day cancellation policy applies.

NOTE: You can get any of the disney dining plan from RunDisney added to a room WITHOUT adding tickets - but again this is a package and all package deposit and cancellation rules apply.

Per last year's corral assignments document, the cap/bib range went up to 10,400. I would agree that I would think that number would probably be closer to 12,000 this year maybe. There were actually times on Osceola last year that I didn't feel like I was running right on top of four other people, so we know Disney has to change that this year!

:rotfl2: Right?! I thought TOT was pretty crowded... then I ran Princess. :crowded::crowded::crowded: Made TOT look like a secluded run through the forest.

I am registered, too! :woohoo: I just could not wait any longer...I am still amazing myself when I think of me and run in the same sentence and actually liking it!

Does anyone know if you can convert the discounted park passes to non-expiration ones?

I don't think so as they have to be used around the time of the race.

All set, i am registered for the 5k along with my dd! We are just doing the 5k, as i don't know that she can do a 10mile race yet... (shes 12 but is not use to running).. We booked ASMovies and got our flights all booked!! now just park tickets to get!
