Hi -

We're going on the Scotland trip this summer, and I just bought the tickets for our Scotland/England trip. The prices were not as good as I hoped for...but now that we're only 4 months out, I got nervous and bought the tix so the fares don't keep rising.

It's now feeling so real, and we're so excited for the trip. My 7 (soon to be 8) year old daughter was saying she's looking forward to archery and being just like "Merida" on the trip!

anyone else buy their plane tix yet for the summer?

I'm going to Greece the end of May, and I bought my ticket a couple of weeks ago. The price was starting to creep up, and I really wanted the direct flight from Philly to Athens, and it was filling up! Since then, the price to fly from Columbus to Athens has stayed pretty much the same, but the ticket I bought, with the non-stop from Philly, has gone up $300! So I'm glad I bought when I did! (Even though the price was ridiculous!!!)

Wow! That is so exciting!!! We are considering Scotland for next year's ABD! Trip report pls.!!! popcorn::

I pulled the trigger last week (was starting to get antsy too :)). We decided to fly into Heathrow the day before and stay the night in London. We will take the train up to Edinburgh so that we can see some of the countryside. We are flying to Ireland after the abd for 5 days. Now I am trying to cooridinate hotels and such (makes me appreciate abd that much more - its been a chore trying to figure out our itinerary for just those 5 days!!). :coffee:

Must be the week for tickets. I just booked our tickets for SE Asia today. Sure seems real now.

I bit the bullet and bought a couple weeks ago for Scotland in August. I'd planned to wait for 3-4 months out for the typical lowering of fares, but I got too anxious. Fares from the west coast are horrible but I feared they would get worse with planes filling up. Good thing I pulled trigger--our seats have gone up by $600 each!

We are part of a group of three families eagerly awaiting the 2014 dates for Scotland--and also looking forward to your trip reports, all who are going this year!! (We were thinking of training to Scotland from London as well--so the poster that is doing that, please let us know how that works out!)

I'm so glad we bought our airline tickets when we did....the prices have increased by ~$100/ticket - which doesn't sound that bad, but the routing/times are now horrible.

Based on what I've been seeing with airline fares, I actually think its better to buy 6-8 months out. There aren't as many last minute deals anymore...and I don't think I have the stomach to deal with that stress. :)

I agree with you on that. :thumbsup2 The ticket I bought for May has just continued to go up and up in price, and the connections that are left are horrid. I'm glad I bought when I did, too.

Honestly, though, even domestic fares have gotten ridiculous! A friend of mine is having an event in late April in Rhode Island. I've checked all of the surrounding airports, and the cheapest flight that doesn't have me traveling all day to get from Ohio to Rhode Island costs $439!!! Really??? The *cheapest* I've seen, period, is $379. Ridiculous.
