Port Orleans Riverside Q&A Thread 2013, Part One [Thread now FULL and closed]

Not open for further replies.
Sorry, this all blew up over my night-time so I've only just seen it.

For the record, Venom contacted me before he posted anything on the boards, asking whether he should keep quiet about his experiences in case it put people off POR. I said he should just be honest about what happened, and I think this is just an unusual series of strange co-incidences which just happened to hit one family. Perhaps coming out with the full story straight away rather than posting hints and PMs for a week might have helped reduce the rumour-mill, but he said was too busy with what was going on at the time - and anyway that's all water under the bridge now and it's now all out in the open.

Whether people feel Venomhatch is attention-seeking or not (as some have said) please can we keep this civil and stop the name-calling. I don't want the mods to have to close this thread down, we've all (and that includes Venom) put far too much time and effort into it. By all means take it up by PM, or in another more directly relevant thread if you really must, as that's your right, but please let's keep this one about Port Orleans Riverside specific questions.

I really appreciate it when someone comes to the Disboards and posts about the not so magical time they may have had. Everything is not all roses and unicorns and there is useful information to be absorbed in those trip reports.

I always check my room for bedbugs..but now I will check for roaches too. Better safe than sorry. I can not stand the snakes at Disney postings but you can bet I will always keep a watchful eye out for Slytherin's mascot.

In fact, I would rather hear about the bad then to have to hear the " discheerleaders " who tell you to make lemonaid when things go south.

In the end I will take all information, the good, the bad, and the ugly.

By the way, I am still planning on staying at POR in July and I am looking forward to it. I am going to to everything in my power to have a smooth, fun and magical stay.

Ok so how long is the boat ride to Downtown Disney?(my attempt to help derail this runway roach train)

ps. I worked at one of theist famous hospitals in Cleveland and they had a roach problem so it can happen anywhere

Ok so how long is the boat ride to Downtown Disney

From POR the boat ride is about 20 mins, with a short stop at POFQ to pick up en route (they leave a few empty seats when the boat leaves POR). Boats run at least every 20 mins in the morning, and every 10 mins after 4pm.

This is the POR FAQ Thread. I have just spent an inordinate amount of time deleting posts that involved name calling, reputational attacks, accusing each other of lies, sketch etc.

ENOUGH! For crap's sake, it's a trip to Disney people ... not the invasion of the body snatchers!!

Future off topic posts will be deleted and infractions issued. No warnings.

DIS POSTING GUIDELINES:

If certain folks can't abide by those, then they will NOT be posting here. I don't think I can be anymore clear on this.

And now back to your normally genial and fun-loving thread.. :) HUGE thank you to the hosts here who do a great job keeping the conversation on track. Your efforts are appreciated.

Just keep trying, the Disney websites can be a little bit flaky at times. (Mostly on days when there's a "y" in the name of the day). Otherwise, just do it the old-fashioned way at the Front Desk when you arrive.

Thank you Andre. I didn't want this to have to get to posting the pic of it. This is hy I debated with myself and asked you in on wether or not to bring this to light about the bugs.

Sorry it came to this as everyone has been so nice about it. I actually googled port Orleans riverside and roaches and came back more than my encounter. But I don't see anything about what I said at all.

Thank you. Your efforts are always appreciated as well!

Venom Hatch, is your TR posted yet? I'm sure it will detailed and helpful to many POR fans...

I started it. There is a link in my signature.

It's up to you, you can do it yourself if you want to, or use Bell Services.

Just drop your bags at Bell Services by the main entrance when you arrive (they will give you a numbered tag) and then park in the 30-minute check-in bays. Get yourself checked in and then head to your room, and once there call Bell Services to have your bags brought up to you (you must be present in the room for them to deliver). Simple as that.

Andre

How long will it take for Bell Services to deliver my bags once I call? We will be heading to a park once we check in and I wouldn't want to wait forever for my bags!

Robin

Here's the deal.....we are booked Sunday-Sat. We are thinking we'd like to come a day earlier on Sat to start our vacation because the airfare has dropped considerably. BUT last I checked NO preferred rooms for Sat open whereas the rest of our trip is booked as preferred. So how does that work? Should I book a garden room or river view and then they'll link it to my other reservation of 6 nights in preferred? Will I have to move after one night? We are a family of 3 BUT WANT PREFERRED location in AB> Is this even possible? Should I wait to see if a preferred opens up (today would be the 45day mark for the sat we'd be checking in IF we went a day early). Or just stick to my 6 night reservation???
I don't need additional tickets so would I just reserve a one night room only??

Now that's FUNNY!! Lol. And has been my experience with the web site too!! ...Any day with a Y....

Unless they are very busy, about 10-15 minutes.

Call as soon as you get into the room (they won't bring bags to an empty room, and often it'll take you longer from the Front Desk than it takes them to get there) or you could just go to the park anyway and then deal with moving your stuff in when you get back?

Book your extra night as another category, and get the reservations center to make a note on both reservations that they are continuing. This should be picked up by the room allocations team before you arrive and most likely they will be able to keep you in the same room for the whole stay. They get this sort of thing surprisingly often. If you are worried, you could also fax them a few days before you arrive to make sure they've got the info.

They are usually pretty fast if you tell the CM at check in your luggage is at bell services to be delivered they can either notify them through the computer or you can let them know the room number etc.

I probably shouldn't have caught up on the the thread this morning while eating breakfast.

Andre - I do have a question about your room maps. On the one for Magnolia Bend (because that's where I'm hoping to stay, I keep looking at it), you show room 8746 as a Standard View, but 8546 which is right below it on the 1st floor, shows Garden View. How is this possible? Thanks again for creating and maintaining that site. It is so great for planning a PO stay.

Oh and another question...is it unreasonable to request Magnolia Terrace building, 2nd floor, corner room in a standard view? Is that asking too much?

That is ideally what I'd like, but I'm not the type to get all upset if we don't get that. We will be at Disney after all.

On a related note, our last night of our trip we have a late-ish (around 7pm) ADR for Kouzzina. After, would it make sense to go from there to DTD and take the boat to get back to POR?

(If this has been covered before, I apologize, I can't find it on this board) I've read on other boards about overriding the air conditioning unit because it shuts off without motion in the room. Do you have to do this at POR, if so, how? I don't want to wake up in the middle of the night sweating due to no air being circulated because we aren't moving in the night :upsidedow

With everything else that has been happening on this board, didn't know if anyone else knew this answer.

TIA!!

INMO nothing is unreasonable until you expect five to six requests to all be granted. But Disney does try to make it as magical as possible for our guests.
