Well I pulled the plug, flight RT is about $100 more then what I'm used to paying  but, am afraid to wait!
So I had already booked a non-stop direct red eye with Alaska for $224 to Ft. Lauderdale
and tonight I booked with Delta MCO back to Seattle for $218. It had the times I wanted, late afternoon leaving and only a 1 hr layover. Guess I'll have to live with the higher fares for this trip. So total is around $450 RT incl tax, meh.

Is that from Alaska/BC to FL? That's an AWESOME price!!! I'm paying almost that much to fly from Buffalo and have a 3 hour drive + hotel stay to add in.

You did really well!

I think the days of $100 fares from the east/under $200 from the west are gone...yes, you did well Sue.

No, it's from Seattle, flying on Alaska Air, and we have a 3 hr drive too from Vancouver to Seattle. I'm saving on a hotel that day by booking a Red Eye flight, but have the hotel stay coming home!

Yes, guess Im having sticker shock :scared1:, since most of my flights RT have been under $350. For our Jan trip I had $317 RT fare.
Im afraid you may be right, fares are getting higher :sad2:

I am seeing return flights on JetBlue for 391.50 per person.... that's a pretty good price vs what I've seen recently knowing they include 1 free bag

Hmmm, not for my dates in August & returning 9/1. Also do Multi city as we fly into Ft Lauderdale & return from MCO. I did check them. Never flown Jet Blue, but I hear good things about them. I always check, but never was able to find good fares with them.

Just re-checked to see if I was missing something, and fares I'm getting on Jet Blue for my dates are in the $700 - $800s range!! Yikes.

eeep that's crazy... we're going the middle 2 weeks of Sept. our current plan is fly into South Carolina to visit friends then out of MCO and crazily that airfare trough JetBlue is cheaper than SEA-MCO return!

I found a great website called yapta, you can track flights and they will email you when the price decreases! It has an app for iPhone as well, it's extremely useful and I use it for all my flight travel now!!!!

Yapta I am certain is kayak.... it looks exactly the same; with all the exact same functionality.

We had to change our plans and cancel Disney because it would have cost us around $3,600 for 5 people to go from Halifax to MCO the end of August.

I'm so sad about it. Even though we have different plans for vacation and it is all booked, I still haven't cancelled Disney. I"m so pathetic. I better get going or we will lose our deposit. :(

Have you consider adding 2 days and driving? Also saves the cost of rental car, and better than disney bus service.

So sorry to hear that. We are going the end of August and I have found air fare for our group of five for $2500. Is that still out of your budget? I can live with $500 per person anything over that will strain our budget as well.

So sorry to hear that you have to cancel your vacation. I can relate, we should be in DL right now but had to cancel our spring break vacation because our lab required very expensive life saving surgery which drained our vacation fund! The bright side is we have rescheduled for Aug. in WDW, which was our first choice anyway. I hope you guys can reschedule your holiday...maybe for a time when airfare is less and it is not so HOT in Florida...good luck!

Driving :drive: would make us all crazy. We would have to add more than two days as we are coming from Nova Scotia and don't want to drive straight through. With three kids in the back, that would be a crowded drive. We planned on staying onsight so wouldn't be renting a car anyway.

$2500 is what we would have considered a fair price. That is what we paid in 2011 on our first trip.

I came up with a better price on budget air but we have already booked our new vacation and can't cancel the cottage we booked.

Thanks everyone for the input. Maybe next year!

Sorry to hear about your vacation for spring break. I hope all is well on the health side of your family.

We have a different cheaper vacation booked and I think the kids will enjoy it just as much. My partner and I are the Disney fans. They get to have a trip to Canada's Wonderland and we also have a cottage at the beach for a week. It is in Sauble beach, one of the world's largest fresh water beaches where I grew up near. Other than the drive with two of the kids (one is flying ahead of us to spend time with his grandparents) it will be a more restful vacation than Disney.

We will get to go again, but maybe not for at least a year, more likely two. I have one child needing braces soon. I was hoping to get to go while my oldest was the age he is (16 this summer). He may be out of the house by the time we get to go again.

I also am going in Jan 2014 and just booked that flight. Not wanting to get caught with higher fares again, I found $318 RT on Kayak.
Going down on United, sea to Houston, 1 hr layover, arrive in Florida at 7:00 Pm, then direct non-stop flight on Alaska from MCO to sea return. :cheer2:

I've been checking flights for March 2014...I know probably too early to be looking at air fares, but looks like 274 taxes in for one way from YHZ to MCO on AC. Not a bad rate, but not direct. Has anyone flown out of Halifax non-stop to Florida in March?

Thanks :goodvibes

We just flew. Feb. 28 - March 7 direct, non-stop out of Halifax on Southwest. Was about $625 RT I think.

We usually go to Portland and have had the best success with decent fares in Air Tran ($200-225 RT) but with a connection. We are waiting for booking times to open for Mar 2014 rates.

I had no idea Southwest had any flights into Canada? Is this something new?
