Talk DVC with the Dis Dads

I had read else where that someone bought Used points through DVC. Has anyone else heard of this?

Thanks, Kevin

No. DVD will exercise ROFR and purchase contracts and resale them direct from Disney. This will happen when to point purchase is too low or at popular resorts like Beach Club.

Failed to mention basics, too.
Home resort BLT 180 points UY September
Home resort SSR 50 points UY September
Both were purchased in 2010. The SSR ones were added on about 6 months after we were in the DVC. Wish I would've just put them all at BLT. Hind sight is 20/20.

Not yet. I am planning on watching today at some point.

I like the new girl. It was interesting, and as always, extremely well produced. I certainly wanted to buy more points, but there are bigger ticket items I need to save up for at this point.

You can always sell them thru resale. I haven't seen many BLT 50 point contracts, but you might find them. I haven't posted it before because it isn't finalized, but I sold the last of my SSR points and am waiting on ROFR. We'll still own at BLT and BWV with a June and September UY respectively.

As of 3/12 I can book for our October trip...I'm getting antsy about what resorts are going to be available at the 7 month mark,:crazy2:

Good luck. We bought the BWV contract so we could book there during F&W. The only WDW DVC resort we haven't stayed is BCV.

Yup. At OKW for now. we just prefer to be by a park and even better if said Park has a Monorail. :)

As I mentioned before, I wished we would have bought in more at BLT when we added on. That way we could have booked there a year out and then tried for other resorts at the 7 month window.

How many points do you have at each resort?

100 at BWV and 75 at BLT. Sold 120 at SSR.

I also wished I bought more BLT Points. I went direct instead of resale and cost myself 25 or more points. We stay in studios mostly, so I have enough at BLT for the week by borrowing 12 points. I could borrow points for 6 years until we run out, unless we want to check out other places. We alternate BWV in the Spring, but don't go during Easter week, instead staying at Hilton Head for less points

I've been following the DVC forums a lot lately. Plenty of specualtion as to what the DVC price increases will do to the resale market. Kind of makes me want to hurry up and scrape the funds together.

I think the resale market is where it is due to Disney have ROFR & the contract expirations. I don't think that restricting points away from cruises, etc will hurt the resale values. I think it will if Disney dropped ROFR. Now, it is nice to know that a contract I paid $7K for is worth just slightly less. But, my goal is to get another 30 years of Disney vacations at the Boardwalk for the same amount I could pay to stay at the All Star Resorts.

I'm not even sure I knew about resale options until AFTER we bought directly from DVC. Outside of the cost differences, what are the pros\cons of buying from a resale company?

I tried to post a link here to a really useful DVC resale listing site, but it appears that that site has been banned by the powers that be here. So if you're interested, check in at the other place, and I'll post about it there.

With direct, you get your points immediately, have access to everything you can use points, & the guide can pull from their inventory to get you a room in a booked dvc resort. Any addons go to same UY.

Resale contracts have to pass ROFR, then wait for deeds to be filed, then wait for member #, cannot be used (now) for cruises and some other options, and then no behind the scene inventory. Any addons stay with the original UY.

Biggest pro is that resale can cost $50 per point less at initial purchase.

What does this mean exactly?

and then no behind the scene inventory.
What is this behind the scene inventory that you speak of?

Yeah, seems like the obvious upside is cost. Both of my contracts are for September UY. I'd only buy resale if I could buy for the same UY. I'm kicking myself now for not being more aware of things. I had no idea we'd have issues finding resorts at the 7 month mark. I love out DVC rep, but he never said a word about resort availability.

BTW...my wait list pulled through.
Got a week at BWV with Garden\Pool View. We are SUPER excited.

We are now in a 1 BR at OKW.

Good link. I've went thru the TimeShare store - the sponsor here. They have been great to work with.

You are already a customer, so maybe they wouldn't offer it to you. DVC has to keep a certain % of rooms un-booked for cash paying customers. If you are a new buyer and trying to get a room at BLT. And, you say, I would really buy 150 points from you at $150 per point, but I really want to get a room THIS DATE at BLT. While it would show booked for us, the new purchasing member would find a room open.

I have a September and a June UY. I use my June UY points in October and my Sept UY points in April and never have to worry about those banking/borrowing / holding points stuff. I do think Sept is the best UY for anyone with school age children, as worst case scenario, you have the entire summer to get a trip in before losing the points.

Thank you for the explanation! For this trip I just used my banked points and 59 from our 2013 UT. So off the top of my head, I have 147 points left at BLT in 2013. We'll bank those bad boys and probably book a year out at BLT using our 2014 points (180). It's funny b\c we just booked for October 2013 and we're already mapping out the next stay!

We had done trips in March (2007), April (2010), end of Feb\March (2011), March (2012) then we switched to Fall (November 2012). I like the Fall better, but I was a fan of Spring just b\c of Winter weather and cabin fever in Pittsburgh!

Do you all do 1 BR each trip or take family with you? We can get by with the two trips a year if we do studios and rotate in a week every now and then at OKW for October trip and HHI for a Spring Break trip. We prefer HHI to WDW during Easter Week, but tried too late to get it this year.

Anyone here do Vero Beach? DW and I are considering a long weekend there at the end of the summer. We're coming up on our 20 year anniversary.
