Does it matter? He is a 13 year old boy. Far from the age that you would be right in the pool with him while he wore a life vest and that is the only way this accident could have been prevented.
I'm sure they are beating themselves up enough as it is. But really, who out there would constantly monitor a 13 year old in the pool?

of course it matters!!! without knowing exactly what happened i can't comment further about this boys parents specifically. accidents do happen even under a watchfull eye, other times you see kids how have no parenting going on who do get hurt in accidents that were preventable. i am hoping it wasn't the later.

I would!!! I have a 13 yr old (well, he's 12, going on 13 next month). Im a single parent thou, so when we go to disney, its just the two of us. So ya, we're constantly together and im always monitoring him. I'd never dream of going for a nap while he's in the pool for example.

I agree with the pp, if the parents knew he wasnt a strong swimmer in 5ft of water, why didnt they keep a close eye on him? I'm not trying to wag my finger at them and critisize, cause its true that accidents can happen....but I do wonder.

It is a good rule to swim with a buddy all the time. Also I had heard that young teen boys need as much watching in the pool as a younger child as they do things. Maybe his parents were there and just stepped away for a moment who knows. I pray for this child and his family. Things can happen so quickly.

my son is 15 he also has special needs so i have always kept an eye on him, a close eye. like you goofy i'm not blaming, just wondering... i can't believe the statement "what does it matter?" i would feel like i did everything to save him if he was under supervision and an accident still happened..atleast you know you were there and did everything you could. if you were in the room or in the bar then well that is pretty awful. i hope they did everything they could and he recovers.

The story said his cousin pulled him out of the pool so he wasn't by himself. Could have been horseplay and hit his head, who knows. But lucky for him he wasn't by himself or things would have ended much differently.

I thought I read somewhere that he hit his head but I may be wrong. People need to stop judging. He may have been a good swimmer and the parents may have been close by. If someone hits their head they could go under and drown in no time. The parents may have been there and looked away for even a few minutes. It's very possible he hit his head and slipped under and no body noticed for a couple minutes. Thats all it would take. They could have seen him and not realized he was in trouble and thought he was just under the water. People judging need to get out of their glass houses.

Anyone who has been to any Disney pool knows how crowded and busy they can get, even with absolutely no "horseplay." Even the most attentive lifeguard(s) can only do so much. Someone slips on a step, loses their balance, cramps up, you name it, any one of 100 different things can happen. Horrendous thing to happen no matter what the cause.

Saying "where are the parents" and then saying yes it does matter seem very judgmental. A boy could of died regardless of where the parents were. Why even bring it up. I'm sure his parents are distraught and beating themselves up about it even if they did all they could.

An accident could happen if his parents are 2 feet away or if they had walked off to go and get food. So no it doesn't matter where his parents are. Unless they have psychic abilities there is likely no way they could have prevented it.

My prayers are with him and his family... Lets just pray for him to be okay. I've been keeping up with the articles its so sad! I knew someone there while this was happening who saw him get pulled out of the pool. I pray he has the strength to recover and the family is okay! <3

and i meant it where were the parents?? where they in they pool with him? and he banged his head? or some place else? i mentioned before (hello?) and understand accidents happen even under watch. it was another poster who questioned watching a 13 year old, and that is where the 'judgement started' people were saying they in fact watch their kids even at 13 years old. no one is saying the parents weren't watching him.
