I have a friend staying at Pop Century right now and she never mentioned anything. She was lounging by the Hippy Dippy pool around noon and sent me a picture of it, although I don't know if they were still by the pool later in the afternoon. I will ask her if she knows anything about it.

A quick Google search, and i found a forum on another Disney site that also reports this, that post was at 9:30 this evening.

So sad if that is the case. I don't know how late lifeguards are on duty there, but I know all lifeguards are so vigilant at all the resort pools. Never take their eyes off for a moment.

I was just reading today how some of the main pools stay open all night but lifeguards are only there until a certain time and they will close the pool slides, but swimmers swim at their own risk. This may change all of those rules. Very sad.:worried:

Pop is not very deep - like 3' is the deepest.

he should have been able to get out - unless he fell in and hit his head.

hope he is okay

pretty sure that pool is on camera - so what happened?

The pool is actually almost 5 feet deep in some areas.

have not swam in the main pool - but the one in the 50's does not

OKW is 5' and that is fine for me.

Pop at least the 50's pool is just to shallow for a good swim.

Agree that the bowling pin pool is not a good depth or design for true lap swimming but even it has points where it is close to 4ft 9in deep if not almost 5ft deep. Yes, there are several spots that are only a bit over 3ft deep, but there are some deeper spots too.

I do hope that this young man ends up being okay, but it was not sounding like the outcome was going to be a good one. :(

Sad news. My guess is that the life guards may not have been on duty. A teen under 5' tall in the deepest part of the pool could easily drown if not a good swimmer. :sad1:

Where were his parents?:sad1:

Does it matter? He is a 13 year old boy. Far from the age that you would be right in the pool with him while he wore a life vest and that is the only way this accident could have been prevented.
I'm sure they are beating themselves up enough as it is. But really, who out there would constantly monitor a 13 year old in the pool?

So sad :( sending thoughts and prayers to this boy and family. So terrible. I pray he pulls through.
