Cheerleader Overload

I completely get where you're coming from. Now, I feel we are pretty laid back, and we don't get upset over much. My DH and I have a pretty high tolerance level. I feel we give most everyone the benefit of the doubt.

But.... some people need to realize that not all of us can go to WDW on a regular basis. Some people, this is a once in a lifetime trip. How would you feel, spending $4,000-$6,000... saving for the trip for years... to have it ruined by other resort guests keeping you up all night, overwhelming the food courts, the rides, etc. Especially when some of us try like heck, to go at a time where it's not a madhouse. (although I hear off peak times are a thing of the past) I feel for people that leave WDW less than happy because c*ap like this.

Heck, we thought we had done our research. We booked going off of crowd calendars, etc. Spent alot of time trying to figure out a decent time to go, taking our kids out of school, etc. Booking our reservations through disney, they didn't tell us that the pool would be closed while we're there, or that it will probably be filled w/cheer groups. (we're staying feb 23-March 5th... that last weekend March 1-3rd is w/the cheer groups will be there) Kinda scratching my head on this... wishing we we're informed....

No matter what, I know we'll have a great time at our upcoming trip. Because that's just the type of family we are. We roll w/the punches. And we do adore disney. Last trip we had was in 2005.

Now, like I said before, my 14yr old son will love this whole cheerleader overload. :lovestruc Me? Eh... we'll see. :)

How did your trip go? My daughter's cheer team was at the cheer comp during your stay, although we just drove up from Tampa that day. Her team/gym did excellent taking home several first place and the Spirit Award presented by Mickey and Minnie.

FYI - it's not cheap for the cheerleaders either. They are paying just as much, or perhaps more because of the competition fees to visit These girls paid their park tickets the same as everyone else. They have the right to fill the buses and fill the parks as any other "vacationer" does. At this particular competition (which was a very small competition by comparison to others) was mostly out of state gyms from Hawaii, IL, NY, NJ, etc.) They were there to enjoy their trip to Disney as well. I suspect it was probably their spring break trip.

For the big contest in late April, will the kids stay the following week in the parks? We are at BLT but wondering if the parks will be crowded with cheerleaders and their families?

We just got back yesterday, and I did see some cheer groups around the parks, but not a ton of them and they weren't a problem. We stayed at AoA and none of them were there, at least that I could see.

I was actually just about to post--my cousins and aunt are there for the cheerleading right now, and they stayed (still staying, not sure if they have come home yet?) at AoA! In a Nemo room :)

Maybe they decided to stay separate from the rest of their squad though?

I just got back from ASMusic and it seems like they're all there! I didn't notice any problems at the park but I hated it at the resort. Don't get me wrong, I know they have as much right as anyone else, but most other people don't travel in giant packs. The pool, food court and buses all went from empty to bursting at the seams, depending on if their giant group showed up - something that wouldn't happen instantly with families instead of tour groups. It wasn't a major issue but I'm going to be careful to time my future trips to avoid cheer groups if possible.

Most will be leaving on Tuesday I would say, but that week will be busier than a normal week. The cheer season is FINALLY over after this competition and a lot of times (as it is with our daughter) this is one of two weeks that she has off for the next year. We opted to stay a couple of extra days for this reason.
I can't wait!! SO EXCITED&.BRING ON WORLDS!!!

Our gym is sending a team to worlds for the first time this year! I think that they are heading out Tuesday as well. Many are heading in early however because the week before is our spring break. Good luck to you guys!

Thanks!!! Good Luck to y'all as well! :)

On Sunday the 28th....what exactly does this mean as posted on the Cheer website? What time is this taking place and how will it affect the park?
"Dance Worlds Semi-Finals and International Junior Dance Finals Competition at World Showplace Pavilion at Epcot"
Should we AVOID Epcot on the 28th? We are due to arrive that day and were planning on an evening in Epcot and Illuminations. That would be our one Epcot day.

We were at WDW from 2/7 to 2/13, I didn't see any at AKL but saw enough at the parks. I didn't mind much (except when this one group bumped into me pushing a stroller really hard trying to go through the crowds, so my husband said "excuse you" and this woman who seemed like a parent or teacher turned around and yelled "I'm leading a large group here!" which is NOT an excuse to push anyone in my opinion), but what really annoyed me was at the end of the park day and everyone is tired waiting for a bus(my baby was asleep in my carrier), bunch of cheer groups are shouting/chanting their school cheers non-stop walking and waiting while they are waiting for buses. If some random group was obnoxiously shouting and bothering like that at WDW, I bet CM will do something about it (or people will complain)....

You were annoyed because they were having a good time and in a good moody cheering and chanting in a public place?

I saw on the website that these dance competitions take place Fri, Sat AND Sun at Epcot, not just on Sun. the 28th, we were pretty much planning our trip on these same days with our Epcot day on Monday. I don't know how this will affect the park as many will actually be competing. I didn't realize this was going on this weekend until I saw your post. I may rethink this and move our trip to the weekend before or after.

We were there in early Feb. when there were several dance groups in Epcot chanting, cheering and yelling and I'm sorry, but I don't find it enjoyable especially when waiting for the buses (as one of the posters mentioned).

I do see the host resorts are ASM & CBR which we're not staying at. I completely understand they have the same rights to be there of course. But, we have a right to not have to listen to their chanting, cheering and carrying on all day while we're trying to enjoy the park too. Hmm, as far as cheering and chanting in a public place, I guess the people that are doing it, see that as "fun" and the people that have to listen to it and get get blasted out by it all day may find it...umm, a little "rude" ??...

My niece was there this weekend for the cheer competition and my SIL (her mom) wanted to stay in a different resort than all of the other cheerleaders because she didn't want to deal with all the craziness, LOL! Thanks for the heads up on this as I did rethink our plans and moved our trip to the next weekend and actually saved some $$$ so worked out better for us after all. :)

As a cheer mom I can tell you it is PEEK CHEERLEADING COMPETITION season. From February to April, there are going to be dance teams, cheer teams, etc in Orlando. College Cheer, High School Cheer, All-Star Cheer, Recreation Cheer. They will all have their turn. <3 We love it! The HP Field House is one of several prime locations for cheer competitions. Along with the Silver Spurs Arena (Kissimmee) Orlando Convention Center, Gaylord Palms, and the Peabody Hotel. We live 45 minutes away in Tampa and are always going to Orlando area for competitions.

What you see there now is nothing compared to the Cheerleading Worlds Competition to be held April 27-29 2013. They HP Field House fills to capacity so they have to have one of those jumbo screens outside for all the late arrivals who can't make it inside. We started taking DD 9, there to watch for the first time last year, will go back again this year. You have teams fro all over the world and people coming from all over the world to watch. It is the Olympics of cheerleading.

We will be at WDW when the Worlds are on. I read that the finals will be at World Showcase. Do you know what date/time and where?

Would a lot of the cheerleaders hang around after the competition, into the first week of May, do you think?

 Does this mean the crowd levels will be high in the parks ? Will this be affecting attendance all week? We'll e there 4/27-5/5. Most of our past trips to WDW were the last week of April / beginning of May and they were never crowded. Just sometimes MK was a bit busier than usual. Can you tell me approx. what year they started these competitions? And can you tell me where the HP Fieldhouse is? Never heard of it. I'd like to know when these finals are at the Ws too so I can avoid the crowds and do a diff park that day.
We were there once in Dec (1st week) when the POP Warner thing was going on. Well, we were staying at POR that year and I'm not sure if all the kids competing were staying there but it sure felt like it. I was actually mad at Disney for not informing us that the resort we chose was going to be hosting these competitors. We would have opted for another more quiet resort. The entire place became noisy and crazy and so busy ! The pools...forget it! Nuts! We could not even use the food court...and we LOVE POR b/c it is so quiet and serene. Not that time ! TG for the Dis so that we can be informed of these things!

We're going to be there a few days before you arrive so I'm sure we're going to see bigger crowds...I like this time of year b/c the crowds are moderate (usually), It's not really Hot and Humid, and it barely rains...always seemed like a perfect time to visit. We are staying at the POLY so I doubt our resort will be affected but I guess you never know.:confused3

Sorry! I'm not a Cheer Mom -I was quoting somebody else before asking my question about where within World Showcase they hold the finals.

I'm sorry if I offend anyone here but yes large groups of loud teenagers do disturb a lot of people. I'm sorry but running or tumbling down the hallways and yelling or cheering as a group can be very disturbing. People may be trying to sleep or just relax. I have a young child who naps or someone could be sick. I ended up sick on our last trip with a major sinus infection. I was in bed early every night. I can handle some noise and a few kids just being kids but groups of loud teenagers just outside my door would be too much. Sure they deserve to have fun and blow off steam but not at the expense of everyone else. I have no issues with them being loud and noisy at the parks or even at the pools (during the day). But not around the hotel rooms especially at night or early in the morning. The way I look at it, I won't complain about you cheering and having fun at those times even if it's bugging me cause yes they should have fun. But then they better be respectful when others are trying to get some rest. Unfortunately this doesn't happen a lot and the parents need to do a better job and reminding them to be respectful of others.

We switched from akl to as music this otrip because we needed more space with my little guy(family suite) This is making me a little nervous. I really hope there are no competitions April 14-22. Anyone know? And if there are where do I find out what resort they are at. If music is a host resort I may consider spending the extra money and do a split stay at a deluxe to at least try and avoid it on the weekends.

You were annoyed because they were having a good time and in a good moody cheering and chanting in a public place?

I was annoyed (and seems like most everyone around me at the time), because more than a few different groups are cheering and chanting NON-STOP, and it was very loud. We did hear those cheering during the park hours here and there, which didn't bother us. But hearing them from multiple groups non-stop at the end of the park closing while waiting at the bus is not something I enjoy.
I never thought "having a good time" means being loud non-stop, especially when you are in somewhere the general crowd is around. If you are at competition/school grounds, yes that's perfectly fine. I don't let my kids squeal/yell loudly at public places even though that's them having fun, because I know other people will not find it fun.
