Considering buying DVC - A few questions?

No worries there as long as it's a dedicated 2br.

That's what I figured. I slept on the sofa bed in a BCV studio for the ToT 10 miler last year and thought it was perfectly comfortable. My children can certainly sleep on a sofa bed!

just for an example below on cost of 100pts at BLT vs 150 pts at BWV and BCV. these are what is there now and you need to watch what pts are available. Of course all contracts will be different these are just examples of cost.
Remember that to stay at BLT will cost more pts
I would go with a August UY .
If your going to Disney soon and visit BWV luna pool just know that it is having work done and is closed but you can still see it.

Thank you for all the data!
In terms of BLT costing more - both per point and in points per stay - I think it's comparing apples to oranges. As a family of 5, we essentially are comparing a one bedroom at BLT to a two bedroom at BCV or BWV (yes, I know as DVC members we can put 5 in a one bedroom but with one bathroom and having to travel with an air mattress and towels, I'm not sure it's an equal comparison). Plus the contract lasts longer. But it's helpful to see the numbers side by side.
And since cash will determine the size of our initial purchase, it makes a difference - at least initially.

We are also a family of five, my kids were 5, 7 and 9 when we bought three years ago. We thought we would start out in 1BRs and eventually switch to booking 2BRs. Nope, stayed in a 2BR our first trip and it was the best. It is so nice to have bedrooms for everyone and a second bathroom. We are staying at AKV for only three nights in April and still booked a 2BR even though the 1BRs have two bathrooms. I'm with you on BWV and BCV - I would not buy those resorts as a family of five unless getting enough points for a 2BR. I think AKV and BLT are good resorts for a family of five planning to stay in 1BRs, although we actually bought at OKW (sleeps five in a 1BR, but only 1 bathroom). Ultimately OKW worked out great, though, because the 2BRs require fewer points than 2BRs at other resorts. Good luck with your decision. It took me a while to figure out what we wanted, but eventually I did and have been very happy with our purchase.

This is very good information for all of us newbies.. we're also family of 5..and we have not stayed at all of the resorts.. but good to know if we add on more points..:scratchin

Thank you! So your kids were almost exactly the ages of mine when you bought. Good information to tuck away...

I agree. Super helpful.

Just to update: We're still looking for an August Use Year contract. I'm totally conflicted about an Epcot-area home resort vs. BLT. Probably leaning slightly towards BLT at this point. I like the idea of being able to stay in a one bedroom without bringing an air mattress and having 2 bathrooms. Then again if a perfect contract came up at BCV, I can't say I wouldn't go for it.
I recently watched the DVC Webinar and I'm shocked that BLT direct is selling for $165 per point. Wow.

Amanda, just like the song says:

YOU AIN'T SEEN NOTHING YET, NO YOU AIN'T SEEN NOTHING YET[/SIZI think that's how it goes.

What about buying half of your points at BLT and half at BCV? Then, you can alternate years with banking/borrowing and have a "full" allotment with the 11-month window every year:thumbsup2.

Long time lurker, first time poster. Anyway, I've enjoyed reading your opinions about DVC ownership. My family had our first trip to Disney over the princess 1/2 marathon weekend. We stayed at BWV. My sister and her family (owners at VWL) were staying there at the time. I, too, am jazzed up about the DVC. I like the idea of BLT as well. Location close to MK and a monorail ride to Epcot seems nice.

As another member of team stream, I wanted to post and say hi. Been in practice with the Navy for a couple years now. Good luck with your decision process. Not sure how you racked up over 4k posts with clinic filled with dysfunctional voiders!;)

BLT sounds like a good fit for your family. You could always use your (future) points for split stays at BLT and an Epcot resort - the best of both worlds. We just booked BCV for August at 7 months, and BWV has more inventory, so it tends to be a bit easier to get (if you don't mind which view). The time it's most difficult to get Epcot area at 7 months is during Food &Wine.

I'm sure that's true!

I think - in the long run - that's what we'll do. Eventually I could see needing about 150 points at each resort. I need to choose where to buy 1st!

Ha ha! I do a lot of posting while I'm trying to get my insomniac children to sleep at night!

Good information. Thank you!

So we made an offer on a BCV resale contract today. The contract is being listed by the least reputable of the big 3 resale companies so I have my doubts about this working out. It was a good contract for us - 160 points, August Use Year. I don't think the listed price per point was a steal but it seemed within the range of what has been passing ROFR. I am certainly NOT getting my hopes up that our first offer will come to anything but I'll certainly be happy if this works out!

Good luck, if your offer is accepted I am sure you will be fine and how exciting! All 3 of the resale companies are fine! I have used 2 - prefer TSS but Fidelity has better deals at times and recently I have worked with them and I have to say they have been great! We have a BWV contract in ROFR now with them and communication has been great!

Good luck! You are talking about Fidelity, right? Try not to worry, despite the "bad press" lately here on the Dis, plenty of folks have deals that work out just fine. We used them for our purchase last summer & everything was fine.

Yes. I'm talking about Fidelity. Glad to hear that many people have had good experiences. The person I spoke to today was very quick to email me information and took my call right away. He seemed professional but I guess only time will tell. Thank you!

We closed on a resale with Fidelity in October and had no problems with communication, or any issues at all with Fidelity. In fact, we found the people we worked with very professional and quick to respond to questions. I would definitely do business with Fidelity again. Hopefully, you will have a similar positive experience.
