Leave luggage out in Vancouver for 1pm flight?

We are flying out of Vancouver after our Alaska cruise at 1pm. Are we good to leave the luggage out the night before instead of schlepping it to breakfast and off the boat? We plan to take a cab from the port to the airport since there are 5 of us and the SkyTrain would cost just about the same -- might as well get door to door service.

If you're using DCL transfers, and your flight is after the recommended time, you'll have no problem.

If you're taking private transportation, you'll have to take your bags with you through customs and to the airport.

As a I mentioned, we're taking a cab. I realize that we have to do all the customs stuff, twice -- once at the port and again at the airport. Will we have enough time to do that if we pick up the luggage at the regular time instead of carrying it off for a 1pm flight in Vancouver?

We had a 12:15 flight in 2011. We put our bags out the night before. We got a taxi at the port after we collected our luggage. We had plenty of time to catch our flight.

You can request the first set of luggage tags to be called from GS to give you a little more time to get to the airport. That should give you enough time to get your luggage once you get off the ship and make it to the airport to go through all the lines there.

You know I love you.....but.....I don't think this is the best thing to tell someone. What if everyone decided to try to do this?

I'm in concierge. Would that help me get the first set by itself?

I think we were told to inform guest services if we had an early flight and we accordingly received "early" character tags. They did want flight numbers, etc., I think.

Concierge bags are the first ones off anyway...so you won't need to ask for special tags.

You are correct.
DCL tells people up front to "try" to make their flight after a certain time, but that can't always be done, so of course they allow for some leeway, for some of the passengers.
It just worries me to think that suddenly everyone will be wanting to go get "early" tags. But I have noticed on my last couple of cruises that they had them set out in front of guest services, you didn't even have to ask for them....so maybe they don't care.

I only learned that you could do that after reading it here on the board. You could also just keep your luggage with you to do that, but IMO that creates more of a problem with the piles of luggage in the MDR or outside the entrances. If they have kids, it would be more difficult to juggle as well. I just know that it was very unorganized getting off the ship in Vancouver in 2011. We waited in the Promanade lounge with friends for our tags to be called. The TVs displaying the current tag were not updated and the CMs around us didn't know what was going on. This was on the 7/26 cruise, so they had plenty of other times to learn the process [I mean DCL, not specifically the poor CMs near us who weren't provided with the information needed]. We finally begged the CM to call GS and find out if our tags had been called yet. They had so we finally got off the ship.

We have always seen them on a table in front of GS in case you needed extras. I didn't look when we were in Vancouver, however, and they might do it differently there since the tags actually are used for disembarkation more so than in PC.

We were in the last group called to disembark in Vancouver and still would have made it to the airport in ample time for a 1:00 flight. We were off the boat and in a cab before 10!

As far as the MDR for breakfast....skip it and just eat at the buffet and be back to your cabin before 8 to collect your things.
Much easier then dragging them to breakfast

We've only cruised once before but really didn't enjoy eating our breakfast in our allocated restaurant on the last morning - it just made us feel sad and really hammered it home that we were shortly getting off the ship! I rather fancy the idea of popping along to the buffet instead and if it would make it easier for us to get off the ship keeping our luggage with us (we've also got a flight just after 1pm) I'd rather do this.

If this is how you feel about not wanting to go back to the main dining room, then by all means, do it. Not a problem. But....someone else needs to verify this for me, I'm not sure they serve any hot foods at the buffet on the last morning.

I am the opposite, though.

We fly almost all day to get home, with a stop along the way at one point, so it's a long tiring day. I'd much rather start it out with a nice sit-down breakfast and relax with my coffee before the hectic rush through the terminal, Customs, the airport, etc, begins.

And I like having that one last goodbye with our servers. Usually. I've rarely had any that I didn't care for.
