2/15/2013 - 8 Night Western Cruise, Galveston, TX

I just wanted to say thank-you for all the wonderful gifts from those in the FE#1. We had a great time.

My only complaint is that the wall in our stateroom was separated from the ceiling in places and there were lots of little wood shims in place, but every time the boat rocked it made banging clicking and creaking noises. It only bothered me the first couple of nights when we had the most movement. Hopefully that all gets fixed when it goes to dry dock in the fall.

We were home for 1 day before my daughter and I got sick. We have been in bed for three days with bad head colds, and she has been fighting a fever. I'm sure we will be better in no time, but the bulk of my laundry will have to wait until then.

We've just been lying here in bed wishing we laying on the beach at Castaway Cay soaking up the sun instead, and wishing we could pick up the phone and order a mickey bar and a big chocolate chip cookie.

My little man and I both have little head colds since we've been back too. Hope you feel better real soon.

I miss everything about that trip!!! Can't wait for our next one...

Hope everyone had a great cruise! We, too, missed the meet - I was unpacking and lost track of time!

We all had fun and the kids made a lot of friends. Especially the girls with the Vibe kids - they declared it the best group so far!

Did anyone attempt Magic Kingdom? Holy cow, it was a zoo! We ended up taking the 3:00 bus back to the ship. Got our Dole Whip floats first though! :)

We did, and I hated every minute of it. Way too many people! We headed back to the bus at a quarter to 3PM, but realized we were crossing the path of the parade, so decided to stick around and at least see the parade. We then walked through the castle and then went to the bus. The girls got Mickey's pool all to themselves, so they weren't too upset. That bottle of water they provided us while we waited for the bus was a godsend. It's a shame that I had such a bad time, mainly poor planning on my part. I loved Disneyland, so, I guess we'll stick to that, much smaller, more my pace.

I'm trying to plan my next cruise, yes, I'm obsessed now. Would you do the Fantasy or the Wonder next? I want a long cruise at least 7 nights. Also, how do I find out the dates for Aulani?

Awe! That stinks! We actually had an awesome day at MK! We got there about 9:30 and took the train to Fantasylamd, which allowed us to bypass all the Kelly and Michael craziness. We had the WDW app so we got Fastpasses for attractions with the super long lines. We never waited more than 45 minutes for an attraction and ended up riding 12 rides and watching the 3:00 parade. The only thing we didn't do that was on our list was eat lunch at Be Our Guest but the lines were nuts so we figured we'd try it next time once the newness has worn off. We ate at Cosmic Rays and were pleasantly surprised by their new seating procedures. My husband and I didn't have to split up to save a table which made carrying all the food much easier. We had actually only planned on staying until 3 or so but ended up not getting on the bus to the ship until 9!

I'm right there with everyone who is already planning another cruise! We were originally planning to do Disneyland in 2014, Aulani in 2015, and the cruise again in 2016 but I don't think any of us can wait that long. I'm sure we'll be sailing again in 2015, if not sooner! :-)

We did. EPCOT first (2 rides), then over to Magic Kingdom (14 rides plus lunch and dinner). We used fast passes as best we could and then rode things with 30 minute wait or less. It was extremely busy, but we did everything that was a must-do for us.

I agree on MK being super crowded, and we did not get there until 7PM.

We started off the day with EPCOT, and it did not seem too bad, but then again it's so much bigger than MK, it gives people more room to spread out.

We did not have much of a touring plan as I am not a big believer in following a tight schedule, we are more of the 'wing it' family. We went in and grabbed fast passes for Test Track first, then went to Mission Space where the Orange stand by was only 10 minutes. After that we did a Perry Secret Agent Mission in World Showcase. Those are pretty neat, like a little scavenger hunt or the Mid Ship Detective agency game on the Dream or Fantasy. We could have spent all day doing those going from country to country, but after the first one in the UK we had to use our TT fast passes. We did not get the opportunity to design our own cars, maybe because of the fast pass lane. Not sure as this was the first time we had been on this since the redesign. We then went to Spaceship Earth and had about a 15 minute wait for that. Our son still loves this ride, he made a funny face when they capture your picture and we all had a good laugh when they put that on the screen. It was closing in on lunch so we headed to the Land Pavilion to pick up our Soarin Fast Passes, which were for 6PM. Even the boat ride in the Land had a 30 minute stand by at this time, so we just skipped that and had lunch there in the pavilion. My wife and I split an Asian stir fry dish that was pretty good.

After lunch we headed to DHS via the boat at the back entrance of the World Showcase. We got super lucky and got on a boat that was waiting and we left in under 1 minute. It was a nice way to get off your feet and relax a bit, as the whole trip is about 20 minutes, with all the stops at the resorts between the 2 parks. We were happy that DHS did not seem too busy. We were able to ride RNR, ToT and Star Tours in pretty short order. Star Tours was a walk on, we had Fast Passes but they were not even needed so we kept them for souvenirs. It was only about 4PM, but we were getting hungry so we looked into the waits at the sit down table service restaurants. The 50's Prime Time had a wait of 40-50 minutes. We had eaten there before so we headed to the Sci-Fi Dine In to see how the wait was there. NO WAIT!! We got right in and had a great time. We had never eaten there before and thought it was pretty cool. Bryce even got a Drivers License for being in the Drivers seat of the car we were in. We then spent some time pin trading. A CM told us to check out the trading board in one shop near the Muppet area, and Bryce was able to find the 5th in a series of pins he was missing so we were very happy they told us about this board. It was behind the counter and we had to ask for it. As soon as others in the shop saw this they all crowded around. I reminded Bryce to save a few traders for officer pin trading on the ship, and with that pin trading was done. In the end we had traded about 10 pins at DHS.

We took the boat back to EPCOT and arrived just in time to use our Soarin Fast Passes. The Land was much less crowded now and the boat ride was a walk on. We did that first then went to Soarin. This is still my wife's favorite ride in all of WDW.

It was getting dark by now and we had the decision to stick it out in EPCOT or go to MK. We chose poorly and went to MK. The ride on the monorail over was painless enough, but as soon as we went in MK it was a sea of strollers and ankle biters. Main St. at the front of the park looked like Bourbon St. during Mardi Gras. We contemplated just turning around, but I made my own path through the crowd and DW and DS followed in my wake. We got back and walked on the Haunted Mansion and PoTC. The two rides we really wanted to do. The back of the park was not as bad, as everyone was up front to watch the castle show. We debated on staying later, but we were all a bit tired by this point and rather than push ourselves to the point where no one is happy, we headed back up front for the buses.

Even though they had the bus times on the hour, it sure seemed to me they were just continuous at this point. The bus line was about half full, and we only had to wait about 10 minutes before we were on a bus and headed back.
We all fell asleep on the ride back despite the volume of the cartoons that were on the monitors.

We usually go to WDW in August, and despite the near surface of the sun temperatures, the crowds are not that bad. Plus I like HOT. We had never seen MK as busy as it was the day we were there. I don't mind the crowds, I just don't get why groups of people like to stand right in the middle of walkways and stop to discuss their life's plans. Move off to the side people. I always try and walk right through the middle of groups like that. It's like driving slow in the passing lane on a multi lane highway. DON'T DO IT.

All in all, the day was a 10 of 10. We had a great time.

DD (11) and I went to MK all day - we were there for park opening and left after the fireworks. It was crowded, but we were able to do everything we wanted - including have lunch at Be Our Guest (which we really enjoyed). We went right to Fantasyland for Storytime with Belle, Little Mermaid ride and to Ariel's grotto. We were at WDW last year, so our major focus was seeing what was new, then on to the rest of the park. Once we got out of "Stroller Land" as we called it, the chaos level seemed to improve ;) DH and DD (16) went to DHS for 2/3 of the day and said it was awesome - multiple rides on all the biggies with very little wait. They met up with us around mid-afternoon at MK and spent the remainder of the day there. We treated ourselves to the Fireworks Dessert Party since we knew the crowds were expected to be big that day. It was a great (non-crowded) way to end our day. While we thoroughly enjoyed our day, I am in no rush to go back quite yet!

Oh yes, MK was super crowded. Much more so than Touring Plan predicted so I was thrown off when we got there and it was so crazy!

Here's what we did, and we did a lot! We started at EP. My mom doesn't like the thrill rides so she went straight for Soarin' FPs. Nolan just hit the 40" mark so the rest of us rode TT twice then we met her at Nemo and rode and looked around for a little bit. Then we all did Soarin' with the FPs. We headed out to AK and got there around 10. I got FP for the safari, while the boys met Chip N Dale and then we went to Lion King, we did the safari (I've never seen so many animals!). I went for more FP was going to split between EE and Dinosaur but EE was a little farther out than I wanted it to be. We had lunch at Flame Tree. Then mom and I took Sam on Dinosaur with the FP, dad took Nolan on the triceratop spin and then I took Sam to EE and we only waited like 30 min. Then we headed to MK. It was about 4 when we got there and we headed to Fantasyland. I got FP for Little Mermaid and Great Goofini. We then decided to do Tiki Room and Pirates as those were two things the boys really wanted to see. Quick dinner at Pinochio's and I got FP for Winnie the Pooh and Dumbo and then we rode Great Goofini, Dumbo, Winnie the Pooh, Little Mermaid in that order one after another so that worked great. When we came out of Little Mermaid the fireworks had just started and we watched from there which was a great view actually. Then we headed to main street and camped out for the 9:00 electric parade. Nolan fell asleep and Sam was just barely awake for it. Then we headed back.

Was anyone else on our bus? Our driver couldn't get to the ship! We saw the ship (super excited to get to our beds!) We passed the ship, went way around so we could see the back side of the ship, back past the front of the ship and off away back towards Orlando! We were all a bit confused. A lady near me said, "Where are we going?" to her husband. We were all seperated in the bus and I had a sleeping kiddo. Finally he turned around and we can finally see the ship again, and we go past the ship and way around so we can see the other side of the ship, and then we hear someone giving him directions and we get back to the front of the ship and he gets us there. Meanwhile the RC ship that was in port too when we came in the first time is already sailed and gone LOL

We have only done the Magic and the Wonder and loved both. We have been debating trying the bigger ships. I want to but I don't (does that make sense?) I hear they are great because they are up dated and have a lot of bells and whistles that the smaller, older ship don't have BUT they are so much bigger. people have told me it takes forever to get from one end of the ship to the other.

Also they don't do character breakfast because the dining rooms are too big for the characters to get to every table. And I also heard that character lines are a lot longer because bigger ship means more a lot more people which means longer lines for characters. It is also harder to find chairs at the pool and they get crowded. But they have the cool slide.

I'm sure it's great - Disney always does things right and I really would love to see it. Only thing holding me back is all the people. I like the size of the Magic. I think it's all personal preference and it will be great whichever you pick.

Yeah, that was our experience on the Dream. The dining rooms reminded me more of a mall food court because they were huge. There was no chance of getting an elevator which stunk for us because that meant we couldn't use our stroller for Sierra, who was only 18 months at the time. Also the Rainforest Room was much more crowded. We decided it wasn't worth it on the Dream, even though its our favorite spot on the Magic.

I will say our kids loved the kids clubs much better on the Dream and I liked that they could go from one club to the other without ever leaving the secure area (it made me nervous that they walked the kids from one to another but I'm sure that's just my over-protective side coming out). Plus you can't beat the Aquaduck!! The only negative to the pool area was that they let the big kids go in the Nemo splash zone and they were being way too rowdy. They knocked our baby over several times as they went sliding across the floor. It was sad because she was still in diapers and that was the only place she could play in the water. We did tell the lifeguards and they got onto the big kids but it was pretty much constant.

We'll probably sail the Dream or the Fantasy next just for the kids clubs. :) Now that we don't have to worry about the swim diaper issue, I think we'll have a better time. :)

Sitting here in my DCL jammies that DH surprised me with (because I wouldn't buy them for myself) wondering if it would be too much to ask him to rock the bed a little while I drift off to sleep... :rotfl:

Sigh, 3 weeks ago already:(
But there is a ray of hope waaaaay off in the horizon, we just booked the 5 Night on the Wonder sailing next Spring Break 3/30/14 from Miami.

Like a true first time DCL newb, we did not book another cruise on board. I could have just kicked myself for not knowing that we could book a 'dummy' date then move it later when we could sit down with a school calendar and figure out dates that would work. You better believe I'm booking on board next year. 10% savings on a 7nt Fantasy could equal a nice savings, plus the OBC.

Anyway, we booked via COSTCO, and got a 190.00 gift card, which was the best deal I found.

I joined that thread already, I just wish it was not so far away but at least we have plans, and that's half the battle.

Cheers
Jeff

We booked onboard for spring break next year too, only ours is March 15 on the Fantasy.

I booked for a back2back on the Wonder next May. I did a dummy booking on this trip. I just moved it to the 9-night Alaskan on the Wonder. I hopefully will get to go on the 5-night California Coast in conjunction, but doubt it due to our school calendar. It hasn't been approved yet so I don't know when the last day will be for the school year. I am a teacher so it affects my work schedule. Actually, I don't even know if my contract will be renewed, everything is so messed up right now in education.

What's a "back2back"? It sounds cool!
