we put EVERYTHING on our card! We've got the Premier visa, which I was totally reluctant to get because of the $49 fee, but my friend kind of showed me how many points she had, so we switched.
We have been saving our points since October 2010 for our trip this June. To give you an idea... we got the original offer for 200 Disney dollars per card (and we each got one) so that was $400 disney dollars to start. (this was the original chase card)Then we switched to the premier chase and the amount of points racked up REALLY quickly. In total, we put down $1500 in Disney rewards dollars on our trip.
We've since earned (as of yesterday) another $110 in Disney rewards dollars. So whatever is in there before we leave, I'll put on a rewards card and we'll use that for spending money and out of pocket meals, or souveniers. I'm hoping we'll be close to about $200 before we go. So you can see, the $49 fee per year was well worth it.
This is what we do: when Kroger ran their 4x fuel points on gift cards, I bought gift cards to get the 2000 fuel points. We took the money we saved from our vacation account, bought the gift cards w/ our Disney visa and then paid the disney visa from the vacation account. This also gave me 2% on the purchase (grocery). So we got the fuel discount as well as the Disney dollars. win/win.
We turned right around and paid our vacation w/ the gift cards. Everytime our car insurance is due....disney visa. Comcast/ Directv / cell bill....disney visa. You will be amazed how it adds up. We actually do the Dave Ramsey plan w/ the envelopes. So what I do is, I have a Chase Visa envelope also. when I go food shopping and put it on the card, I then take the cash from my food shopping envelope and put it in the chase envelope and enter the amount on a piece of paper. Same w/ gas, movie money, out to eat, all the cash goes into the chase envelope. It's budgeted and accounted for, so I'm paying everything off a few times a month and we never run a balance. ( I know, we don't have to do that, but I feel ALOT better if I do) Oh, we also put the vet bills on there, home repairs....then we take the budgeted cash and put it in the envelope. We're basically using it like a checkbook, I guess.
But it's working and I'm thrilled with it.
