Port Orleans French Quarter Q&A Thread, New for 2012 (thread now FULL and CLOSED)

We usually go in March or April and we always stay at POFQ and we always seem to have our own buses for each park and never a long wait. I've only had to stand once or twice and that was usually coming back from MK or EPCOT and it was most likely to give my seat to an elderly person or a pregnant woman. Other than that we never had problems with the buses. Every now and then they drop at POR first, but no big deal.

One more question...someone on another thread said he heard that the lobby at POFQ is being closed in May for refurbishment and that checkin and other lobby functions would be handled in the former now closed restaurant.

Can anyone confirm this, and if so advise of timing of start and estimated completion? I hate construction!

Don't know the answer to this, but Andre who manages this thread would have probably know the answer.

You might want to check the year on the construction thread you found. The entrance/ lobby was refurbished last year.

Bump...see prior post...thanks for the help!

When I can post anything more definite about the POFQ lobby refurb date I will, but there is no further information I can add at present. Suffice to say that it will probably be sometime mid-May for 6-8 weeks, but that could still change (it has already been pushed back from an earlier April date). It will create a rare opportunity to go into the old Bonfamille's Cafe, so make the most of it.

It's finally official, we're staying at POFQ for the first time in August! My friend was thinking of coming with us and if that was the case we would have stayed at POR so we could fit 5 in the room. She decided to come and bring her two sisters so they will be getting their own room!

I would of been ok with POR but we've already stayed there so I'm happy it worked out this way. : ). Now I'll be returning to page 1 so I can get caught up in all things POFQ.

Are there showers/changing rooms by the pool at POFQ? We are staying at POR but my DS wants to try that slide at POFQ-not sure about walking back or boating back wet. Is it best to walk over to POFQ or take the boat?? And what about on the way back to POR?

Yes there are showers in the bathrooms near the pool

There are showers and a changing area near to the pool, yes. The walk from POR to POFQ is about 10-15 mins. It's quicker by boat if one happens to be in the dock, but as you've then got to walk to your room anyway it might be just as quick to walk. But the boat is more fun... :thumbsup2

But unless it's a cooler time of year (like now) just how wet do you stay in the Florida heat anyway? :) I think I'd just pop a loose shirt on, and walk in flip-flops or sandals, rather than getting changed.

This is what we do, but the other way round. DD likes to go over to POR for a swim and some games in the main pool there and we just slip some pool shoes, shorts and a t shirt over our bathing suits and walk back. We're usually dry by the time we get to our room and it's such a lovely walk

awesome! So it's doable! We'll be there April 28-May 4 so it will likely be plenty hot!

Since we have stayed at values the last few trips and they have spacific line for esach park...I was wondering how the driver will realize I want that bus as I have a scooter. Should I just stay up by the curb and wave or do you have other suggestions?

Since POFQ has only one bus stop, I would have to imagine that all the buses would stop.

I know that they would stop but they have to load me first ay the back door. If I am going to MK there is no need for the Epcot driver to open the back door etc.

Yes there is one bus stop but there are two different 'stations', and A and B.

What I noticed is that when there as been a scooter, the bus driver will get off the bus and ask if they need his/her bus. Just make sure you are at the right station for the bus you need.

My parent's just gave us a bit of pixie dust. My dad reserved 3 rooms for Sept 21 - 28 for their 40th anniversary trip. Originally I thought my dad would pay the deposit and then my sister and I would cover the rest for our room.

Found out tonight they will pay for all 3 rooms, we are just responsible for our plane tickets, park tickets and meals. Well got two of the three right now and am putting away meal money. My Disney trip is covered.
