Tipping Info Thread for Disney Dining

We are traveling with another family who is on the DDP. We are not because it doesn't make sense for us. We would like to have some TS meals together. I know that we will pay OOP for our meals. My question is will the tips be included on the check and which check since we will have 6 people - 4 on DDP, 2 not. I was told by my TA that dining together is not a problem, just tell the server who is on the plan and who is not.

Yes, they will just have your portion of the tip on your bill.

just get separate checks. they will pay with their dining plan credits, you will pay out of pocket (however you want, charge to room, charge to credit card, pay cash.)

each of the 2 checks will have 18% of THAT check added as an automatic gratuity. (just as the checks are separate, so are the tips) so it doesn't matter what they ordered. if your bill is $100, you will have an $18 gratuity added. (and if the other party's bill is $200, they will have a $36 gratuity added)

Are people tipping when they have lunch at BOG? I know it's QS, but they bring out your food, so sort of in between CS and TS.
Thanks.

I haven't eaten there yet. Is it similar to Wolfgang Puck express? We do leave a few dollars as a tip when we eat there.

I have neither performed (have eaten lunch there twice) nor observed any tipping at BOG lunch.

Who would you tip, the person who brings your food or the person who buses your table? They're going to be different people.

I realize that tipping is a personal preference, but I would appreciate some suggestions/advice please.

I am dining at Victoria & Albert's next week for the 1st time, for my birthday.
I have never eaten at such a fancy dining establishment.
This will be a new experience for me...I'm kinda nervous. LOL

I have heard that there are 2 wait staff for each table.

For example:
If my bill is $200 & I wanted to tip 20%...then 20 % would be $40 tip...

Do I leave 2 tips at 20%?
Or 1 larger tip for them to split?

What is the etiquette on this for Victoria & Albert's...I have no clue.
Thanks in advance!

You tip just like you would at any restaurant.

At the character meals, does anyone know if the servers "tip out" to the characters?

We went last year for the first time with just my family of 4 and were on DDP. We tipped with cash as it was never more than 6 in our party and it was not automatically added. Going again this year with my sisters family and we have 3 ADRs with them so it will be 8 fir those meals. Question: when tip is automatically added for parties of 6 or more can we pay it with cash or does it have to be added to room charge? Thanks

You can pay it however you like.

No they do not. At family style meals such as Ohana, they tip out bussers and assistants

we have a character breakfast at the Hollywood & Vine buffet one morning. We have 4 people in our party. I have read SEVERAL reviews on tripadvisor that people are saying the servers are adding the 18% tip to the check EVEN for parties of 4 people!

Is this common? I am not looking forward to confronting the server/manager if this happens to us:duck:

The auto grat is applied to parties of 6 or more or if you use TIW. Suggested tip amounts are printed on the bottom of your check for 18% and 20% regardless of the restaurant type

No it is not common, and it is supposed to be 6 and more only, unless the group is using TIW or cast discount.

I'm not really sure if this is the place to ask this or not, but I am trying to be Ms. Organization and put all of our tips in their respective envelopes (with a 2 year old, the less I have to do at the table, the better!). But anyway, we are a party of 9 (including my 2 year old), so I know we will atleast need to pay the 18% - and we will have 3 seperate checks. I think I read that she gets a free kids drink, but will eat off our plate. So, when I do my figuring, do I add in her drink amount, our entree and drink amount, and our desert amount (we have free dining)? Also, how much is tax, because I add tax in before I figure out the 18% gratuity right?

I hope this isn't confusing and if this is in the wrong place, feel free to move it or let me know and I will. Thanks!

Tip is done before tax.

If I have a gift card for a restaurant (ie Rainforest Cafe at DTD)after paying for the meal with the GC can I use the balance on the giftcard to pay the tip?? I always wondered about this at any restaurant.

Most restaurant Gift Cards work like credit cards. The server should bring you a receipt similar to a credit card receipt which should have a space to add a tip to the Gift Card if their is available funds after the purchase. You also should make sure you sign it and ask for a copy for yourself. That way if say your Gift Card is $100 and your bill is $50 and you add a $10 tip you will have proof that there is still $40 remaining on the Gift Card. Since Rainforest Cafe is a chain restaurant it should work this way. Hope this helps.

Question for the experts& I have done serious planning and have all my ADR booked and an idea what my boyfriend and I will order and what the costs would be. I have an idea of how much I will tip at each place and me question is, can I buy one of the visa/Amex gift cards($100) and use that solely for tipping?

Sorry if this was asked earlier couldn't read through everything!

Thanks!
