Is it rude to ask?

We have changed my plans : From AKL to BWV.
I was told the view would be either parking lot or grounds.

My question, is it rude to ask for a grounds view?. When should I ask for this - Months before our stay or when we check in?.

If I can get grounds view, what room #. 's have a nice view??.
I hope this makes since, we have never stay at BWV.

Thank you, I wasn't sure. So I found that room 4123 or 3123 are very nice rooms, but I can't find any photos of the rooms. So if anyone out there has them, would you please post them. TIA

I would simply request "grounds view" or "no parking lot view". I would not request a specific room number. If that particular room # is filled, they can stick you anywhere else that does not equal that room #. If it's just "no parking lot view" or similar, they can try to find any room that satisfies that request. I'd choose "no parking lot view" because it could be that some rooms that have a view of grounds could also have the parking lot behind them.

Both times we have stayed at BWV we have had views of the Luna Park pool. The views were from opposite sides and both were fine, and not at all noisy. Also, at BWV, a parking lot view is not the same as it is at other resorts. There is beautifully landscaped "river" between the parking lot and the villa side of the resort. So even a parking lot "view" has a nicer vista that you would think. Additionally, there is only one short wing of the villa section of the hotel that even faces the parking lot, so your chances of being "forced" to stay in one of those rooms would be somewhere between slim and none.

The rule of thumb, though, is to call the hotel directly five days before your arrival and make the request directly with the hotel. Ask again when you walk up to check-in. Those are the two best/easiest times to influence your room assignment. Also, if you are working with a travel agent, make sure they know. They will do the same. I will poke around at home and see if I have the direct phone number for the hotel. I should have it and will post it tomorrow.

The biggest concern about room location at BWV is the Boardwalk and Crescent Lake view. No one should ever worry about asking for a room that is just not overlooking the Boardwalk--simply because of the noise. The backside of the villas face the waterway next to the Swan. Since that traffic only goes to the Studios, it is not as loud as the side on Crescent Lake/Boardwalk where at any given moment there could be up to four Friendship boats honking their horns.

BWV is one of my favorite resorts. I love the short walk to Epcot! While you are there, try to check out Flying Fish. It is a wonderful place for dinner.

Thank you all pixiedust:.
Have made the changes to "grounds view",- "no parking lot" view.

WDWGeek1971 - I'm DVC and have a reservation for 1 Bedroom Standard. So I'll take your advice about calling 5 days prior to check-in :). Like you said it can't hurt to try.

The villas that end in 23 are indeed DVC standard view 1 bedrooms. We have requested them several times, and never received one, however we never receive any requests at BWV. When we stay in a standard view at BWV, we just request high floor, away from elevators. We don't want to be too close to the luggage area, and don't mind the long walks in the hallways that so many people seem to hate.

Keep in mind that most of the standard view villas will have some sort of parking lot view in the distance. These villas are on the backside of the building, right in front of the parking lot. There is a greenspace and lake in between the villas and the parking lot.

Where are you staying at BWV? If you got a DVC standard view on points, you will have the parking lot view. If you got a Disney Reservation Center standard view for cash, you will have a pool or garden view. Standard view depends on how you book - DVC or DRC. And if you got the DVC standard view, you will have parking lot because those views require fewer points and that's the reason for the fewer points.

Deb & Bill,
Thank you for your help. I called MS just now and confirmed what you said. And your correct :littleangel: .

If you Use DVC Points(not cash) for a 1-Bedroom Standard at BWV, you will only(and I'm quoting MS)get parking lot views ONLY :sad1:.
This was very disappointing to us .

So We have once again switched Resorts, and are now staying at OKW Hospitality House Area  :dance3:.
I was just there this past Jan, so I am more familiar with this Resort.

Thank you all agian for your help pixiedust:pixiedust:

Ouch! I have only stayed at BWV as a cash guest. I had been considering buying some DVC points on resale--now I need to know that I should plan on using more points to get the better views!

Thank you!

Actually you cannot contact the resort directly. All calls go to a Central Call Center office that answers your call as if they are in the resort.

The CM who answers the phone will pull up the reservation and note the requests on the ressie, just as if you were calling the Reservations Office number.

The only time you will talk to someone in the resort directly if there is some type of emergency or something where the management needs to get involved. Then the call will be transferred.

Late at night, the Central Call Center is not even on property.

Actually standard view goes first with DVC members for the points savings. The views are not that bad. The parking lot is not right in front of the rooms, there is lawn or a pond. Many have a fireworks view from Epcot.

Debbie is totally right! Our standard view one-bedroom at BWV had an Illuminations view! It was great and a total surprise. It was also a very short walk to the bus stop. Combine that with the low point requirements and I think it was a huge bargain!

Thank you I'm calling back MS. To see what's what. This is very frustrating not really knowing what to expect :confused3 about the room location.
But My DH and DD(20) should be very happy, I have been able to switch back yet again:eek: to BWV.
The MS person let me know that, she her self has stayed in a 1 Bedroom Standard and love the view.

I AM DRIVING MY SELF CRAZY:scared:, so I'm just going to be happy with what I have :cloud9:.

THANK YOU ALL YOUR GREAT :grouphug:

Enjoy your trip but don't over analyze every small detail you will go crazy! :) I nearly booked a standard view for our next trip but we've decided this trip we're not going parks commando but will have some non-park days hanging out at the resort etc so I went for a Boardwalk View so we can relax on our balcony and people watch. However that being said I would not hesitate one moment getting the standard room at BWV.

TagsMissy,
that's what I'm going to do,just stroll around BWV and watch the people:goodvibes.

When I called my DH and told him that we are now(again:)) back at BWV, he was glad because he said things were too far from for him staying at OKW.

So the trip is planned and now I have to wait for the airfare(hopefully) to go down some. And I'm done:dance3:.

You'll have fun wherever you stay.... but personally, I'd have a really tough time giving up that EPCOT location just because there is a parking lot in the distance. Unless you plan on spending a bunch of time looking out the window, the BW is right there, EPCOT is a walk in....

Of course this is just my look at it.

OKW are really nice though and the boat to downtown ins nice...
