Oh my. You guys are making ME seriously think about a trip that weekend 4/8 -4/12. I'd decided against it since I didn't think I'd be able to rent points. Off to troll the rental boards! But I would need a 1br....maybe it's possible? Wish me luck - I NEED a vacation. Now.

We got back to the resort after a morning at the AK and stepped into the lobby to find these gals (as we knew from the safari the night before) right down the hallway to the left towards our room. We stopped to admire them and take some pictures.

As we were admiring them, this guy stops and does a double take. He’s all, “Those are real zebras! Oh my God!” I’m thinking how can you stay here and not know this? Well he was a guy who worked for one of the scooter delivery companies, he was just there dropping off a scooter for a guest. We told him that there were all kinds of animals, not just the zebras, but giraffes, cattle, and all sorts of stuff. He told us that we had turned his sucky day into a pleasant one.

I took some pictures out on the Savannah, this was going to be our last night at the AKV, so I’m almost out of pictures from this trip.

We've been here since Thursday and what an amazing resort! We were sprinkled with some Disney magic and were upgraded to Sunset Savanna view. Upon first stepping into the room we were greeted by four reticulated giraffes! I knew then I was in for a magical week.
More to come...

Glad you're having a great trip!

....my. head. is. spinning.

....DH wants a cheap flight, but doesn't want a connecting one; also willing to pay a little more, but DOESN'T want LGA....I can't seem to coordinate all these constraints! :badpc:

If you get an early flight & it takes a lil longer to go to the NY airports, How would u be getting there anyhow...If paying for a car service whats the difference then? Where you fly from.

We got back a week ago today :( it was a lovely stay. We had a wonderful room with a great view. Jambi 5421, I think. We had giraffes, zebras, all kinds of animals right off our balcony all the time. I loved the zebra domes!! We ha some at boma, then I bought some at Mara and kept them in my bag. They were very good at room temp! The pullout sofa was an amazing mattress! Was that memory foam? The kids slept on it but I was impressed! My dd6 loved the water slide. It took a lot of coaxing by the life guard but once she went on we couldn't get her off.

Kim. We are from jersey too. I don't know where u are but we fly out of Philly sometimes. The flights are cheaper, parking is really cheap, and we found by the time we drove across the city in traffic an had our flight out of lga cancelled multiple times, we could have just as easily driven to Philly. Of course ewr is the best for us but such limited directs. With little ones I would rather drive a little farther and fly direct. Paying less doesn't hurt either ;). Good luck. I love going in April.

Thank you everyone for your help in making our trip great!!

I was just reading through the POR thread (that's where we stay when we can't afford AKL... ;) ) and one of the regular posters over there said AKL is the first resort to have magic band trials, and they're going on right now. Just wondering if anyone at AKL can confirm, and what they've thought of the magic band if they've been able to try it out...

forgot to add - the discussion on the POR board is in post 666 (hope that's not a bad sign for the magic bands! ) if anyone wants to see it.

we'll be at AKL in mid-April and just wondering whether we'll get to try out the bands (though we have APs, which may be a whole other kettle of fish).

franandaj I've never seen that many different animals at one time on the savannah! Amazing! Do you remember what time of day those were taken?

Kim are you any closer to any PA airports? We use ABE but sadly, after 4/8 there will be no more non-stops to MCO. I think I actually cried real tears when they annouced that! We have Allegiant, and while they flew to MCO they were great, but they're now back to Sanford only. Then Airtran came & went, now Frontier ran its course as well.

PHL has tons of non-stops to MCO, Wilkes Barre used to have a few as well.

Good luck!

Kim and I both live up north in bergen county. Different towns of course but literally minutes from the GWB. Ideally EWR is the best airport to leave from but is alwayz higher priced. My other sister sometimes flys out of Philly but she usually gets a room the night b4. So obviously this adds to the cost.

My last 3 trips were out of JFK airport but this year we managed to get LGA, which is a tad bit closer.

We were in the room between 2:30 and 4:30 that day. We were at Kidani with a Sunset Savannah view. We had a great variety of animals outside our window. The cattle were almost always out there.

Marriott gives us a free room every year, so this year I used it to stay the night before. We parked our car at the Marriott, for up to 14 days, it is 30.00 (total!). It was nice, you wake up in the morning, take the shuttle, and you don't have to deal with the whole going to the airport thing...I hate that part for some reason.....The luggage, strollers, car seats, kids, lines, all while DH goes and parks the car...I'm getting stressed just thinking about it!

If I didn't have the free room I would drive that day, which I have done, but then of course there is always the biggest accident you have ever seen on the Turnpike. I weigh the pro's and con's with how much money I save...

I forgot to mention we ate at Jiko while we were there as well...I think that might be my favorite place to eat! We had Boma for dinner one night and we didn't love it. I am surprised because I really thought we would love it. Our server was great, she was suggesting things for us to try, and we tried almost everything. We really love African/Indian food, and I know everyone highly recommends it but it was just ok for us. We didn't do Sanaa and I think next time we go we will do Jiko and Sanaa. I cancelled our Boma breakfast, but maybe we will try that next time as well. Do you all have any input on breakfast over dinner at Boma? The flatbreads at Mara were delicious, btw! Has anyone had the African Stew?
