Ikea FE

You can buy the ikea organizers on eBay. A bit more expensive but I did get one for under $10 even with shipping. Was very wrinkled though.

Mine's very wrinkled, and I bought mine from Ikea... I wish I'd looked on Ebay... that would have been easier than going all the way to Ikea!

I'm thinking of painting Mickey Heads on ours with the kids' craft paints... going to do a test patch on the back first, I'll let everyone know how it goes! (Running out of time, we leave in 8 days)!

I just painted Mickey heads on with acrylic ( craft) paint. Looks great! I'm going to try writing names on with a sharpie. I'll post a picture when it is done.

That was my original plan... But it says do not iron. It is polyester, I'm worried it would melt! Eek!

Idk if this is too late to help you, but I saw on the Fb page that someone ironed it anyway. So I had DH unearth my iron (only use it a few times a year ROFL), and I dusted it off:p and realized that there is a polyester setting! And I don't have an ironing board, let alone a sleeve-thingy, so I took a small cutting board (clean) and stuck that into each pocket as I ironed it. It still wasn't easy though.

Because when I unrolled my soon-to-be FE, one pocket was fine, but the middle and bottom were very wrinkly.

Also, I used just fabric markers for our names. (WARNING: Fabric Markers can BLEED!) I bought that Walmart Disney ribbon, the black background with the red and yellow Mickey Heads? And I ripped off the stripes that came on the pockets and glued the ribbon on with fabric glue. In hindsight, I probably could have left on one of the stripes because that black Mickey-head ribbon is barely wide enough to cover both sets of holes. It's definitely NOT wide enough to cover both rows of holes AND overlap the raw edge from where the lower stripe was. After I glued on the ribbon and let it sit overnight, I then went back over the thing and glued the under-flap where it stuck up a lot IMHO lol.

Then I found this "Wish Upon a Star" pewter charm in my stash and sewed it to the top.

I am trying to put the picture of it here http://i931.photobucket.com/albums/ad160/Mom3girls2000/Ikea3PocketFE.jpg?t=1360035096

Go to Joanns Fabric and buy disney scrapbook stickers - they are 3-d and stick very well to fabric - I have had several on mine last for quite a few cruises!

Just thought I would share my experience with creating a no-sew FE with the Ikea 3 pocket organizer. It was very easy, took me one evening and about $20 in supplies (biggest expensive was some ribbons for Minnie Mouse heads, I could have saved myself $12 and Macygyver'd something myself but oh well....)
-I ripped off the ribbon and tassels
- Ironed with steam on medium setting to get wrinkles out
- Cut out Mickey and Minnie Heads from lightweight felt (Michaels carries this small sheets for $.49 each)
- Used fabric glue to attach to organizer-the glue seeps through the porous material so stuff some crumpled up newspaper inside the pocket to absorb any excess glue.
-Fabric glued on some ribbon where the original ribbon was ripped off and viola!! All done!
-I am thinking of adding names to the Mickey and Minnie heads but havent decided how to do that yet.
-will post picture when I gets chance:yay:

I just bought the pockets from Ikea and now I need some inspiration. Any one care to share more pictures of their homemade FE?:)

If I could figure out how to insert a pic from my own laptop, I would. There is a Fb Group called FISH EXTENDER DISNEY CRUISE LINE where people have posted their pics of that and other FE's.

I don't get it, please help! When I go to this FB page, all I see are pictures of the members of the group but I don't see any FEs....what I am doing wrong???

Thanks!!

It's a closed group and you need to ask to join - its worth it! A great group and some amazing ideas.

I finished up our IKEA FE yesterday. It is a bit wrinkled. I probably should have ironed it and if I had my old iron I would have, but I have melted poly like that before and didn't want to risk it on my new iron.

Forgive the mess on the table. We really did just finish it up when I took the picture so things were still drying.

My 6 year old helped me with this and did most of the design.
