Glad you are joining us. We just love BLT .... you cannot beat being able to walk to the MK! :thumbsup2
And be warned ..... cruising with Disney can cause a serious addiction. :rotfl2:

Sorry you have been under the weather since returning !! Looking forward to the TR!!!

I am slowly feeling better, Rosie. The 30°C temperature change (height of summer to freezing point) in a matter of hours just didn't agree with me. ;)

Trip report is starting right NOW!!!! pixiedust:

 it was amazing to spend time with you. You helped to make our trip so special. Thank you!!! I just wish I hadn't been so silly as to give you chocolate...what was I thinking? :rotfl2: In my defense though... the one was more about the cute boxes than what was inside. (which I only assume was fairly inedible.)

Love the teaser pics and cant wait to read more!!!

Half term vacation 2013, Feb 16 - Feb 24

Day 1, February 16

whislewhile1_zpsc8f5574a.jpg

It's freezing here! - part 1

And off we are to another adventure.

The day before we left was a pretty hectic and long one. We both had to work. Well, for me it was the end of term and we got off about 20 minutes early, which meant that I was able to leave school at 12.30. While Tom was still at work, I did some shopping, went to the cemetery, to put some flowers on our family grave, and finally met with Tom, who had started the day extra early to be able to get off on time. We still had to take Pixie to the cat hotel and so we put her in the basket, and off to the car. The drive is about 20 minutes and Pixie was SO not happy about it. Once we arrived and she had inspected her home for the next week she was okay.
After a while we said goodbye and went home, finished packing, had dinner, tidied up the rest of the house and finally fell into bed for a very short nights sleep.

Our travel day started in the wee hours of the morning. We got up at 4.30, got dressed, had a Coke and a sandwich for breakfast. After locking up the house we removed all the snow from the car, loaded our luggage in and off we went towards the airport. Our airport is pretty small and arriving there 45 minutes early is more than enough, but we still were a little on the late side. So we quickly stopped in front of the departures hall, unloaded the luggage and sent it off, before heading back to the car to drive over to the car park. We were pretty lucky as we found a spot right by the entrance where we parked and walked back to the terminal. We walked right through security and took a peek into the duty free shop. We were just looking for a seat when we heard the announcement that our flight was ready for boarding. So off to the gate we went, tickets checked we got on the bus that took us out to the plane. It would have only been a few steps to the plane but since you are not supposed to walk under the wings we were driven there. We all climbed in, found our seats and put our safety belts on.

Within a few minutes the announcement that we were supposed to take off within the next five minutes came. And it didnt take long until we were airborne and on our way to Frankfurt. A few minutes into our 55 minute flight the flight attendant came through, handing out little bags of snacks. Once they were done with that they were serving drinks. Tom got some Coke and I had some water to wash down the little Italian bread bites,

which were tasty but pretty hard. In no time the captain announced that we were supposed to be landing soon and everyone had to get back to their seats and safety belts closed. We landed on time and we knew we had a lot of time to kill in Frankfurt, since I had chosen the early flight to give our luggage ample time to transferred to the Transatlantic flight. We were in no hurry and slowly strolled from one terminal to the other which all in all took nearly 45 minutes.
Once we had arrived in the other terminal we walked through the shops and then decided to find somewhere to have some late breakfast, early lunch. We knew there was a nice restaurant and went to find it. It required leaving the inner airport area, but since we had so much time to kill we went for it. We found a nice table and were handed a menu. It was only 9am and they still offered breakfast, but we both didnt feel like it. I ordered a Diet Coke and Tom had some beer.

IMG_7483_zpsa04eb37e.jpg

We actually, both, ordered the same thing, Frankfurt (hot dog) sausages and potato salad.

IMG_7482_zpscce7803c.jpg

They were quite generous portions and it tasted pretty nice, even though the potato salad was a bit on the sweet side for me. After we had finished our meal we still sat and chatted and watched the planes coming and going. At around 11am we left and slowly made our way over to our departure gate. It was quite a trek there and required going through passport control and security, then change from one terminal to another. It was then that it dawned on us that Tom had forgotten his camera charger and he did not have time to have charged it at home. Yikes. :scared1:
So off we went to one of the electronic stores to find a charger. What we found was a universal charger, one that charges everything. So in the end we ended up with a really nice device that now allows us to leave all our chargers at home. It is now resting comfortably in our Owners Locker box. Charger in our hand luggage we went towards our departure gate again. We still had a way to walk and crossed through another duty free store again. Tom picked up a bottle of Whiskey and then we finally made it to our gate. We sat down for a while and I was craving some chocolate. So off we went AGAIN in search of some chocolate. What we found was a nice bakery right in the middle of the airport. They had really yummy things and we decided to have another snack before getting on the plane.

Tom picked a

yummy freshly baked roll, filled with prosciutto. I had my heart set on

a chocolate filled croissant, and we both were very happy with our choices, as they were fresh and tasty. On the way to our departure gate we picked up a bar of chocolate and some gum at a newspaper stand.
Once back at the gate it did not take very much longer and we were allowed to board.

To be continued ...........

 it was amazing to spend time with you. You helped to make our trip so special. Thank you!!! I just wish I hadn't been so silly as to give you chocolate...what was I thinking? :rotfl2: In my defense though... the one was more about the cute boxes than what was inside. Ann, shouldn't you be in bed by now?

We LOVED meeting you and your family! :grouphug:
I need to repeat what you said, as you all made our vacation so extra special. pixiedust:

You know ...... I just LOVE chocolate - and I love to sample different ones, so you were spot on. And I actually have the boxes on display. :rotfl2: They are so cute.
We need to sample the cherry chocolates this weekend. I have had a cold and my tastebuds were off, so I didn't want to open the box. But today I will indulge in them. Thank you again. :goodvibes

Aw (exhale), dieting, trying to cut back on carbs. I'm drooling over the proscuitto sandwich -- that roll.. :bitelip:

I can't wait for more of your report! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Good Morning/Afternoon from North Carolina, Karin! :goodvibes

My goodness, don't think I've ever seen a picture of a plane that small for your flight to Frankfurt - is it usually a small plane? I enjoy those for short flights. :) Italian bread bites...Hmm, might be the first time your inflight snack did not look appealing, but your breakfast and snack in Frankfurt more than made up for the dry looking bread sticks! Yum! ::yes:: Especially the chocolate croissant! :thumbsup2

Isn't it nice when what seems like one of those oh no moments turns into a better outcome? Glad you have a universal charger that can stay in your Owners Locker now - one less thing to pack! Chargers are the last thing I pack and always worry about forgetting.

Very good to hear you are beginning to feel better - never fun to come home and get sick. It is enough to be back in the real world - no need for a cold to add to the readjustment. :sad2: Hope Tom is doing well. :goodvibes

LOVE the photo of the Captain! Tom is so clever! Do Cruise guests find out who it will be ahead of time?

Looking forward to the next chapter...but do take your time and feel better.

So happy you started your next TR!

The first plane is so tiny! Yikes!!

All of the food you had so far looks yummy! Especially the croissant :)

Looks like you passed time fairly quickly until your next flight.

Hope you're feeling better, how's Tom's back?

Great start Karin !! I love seeing the airplane snacks from overseas:cool1:The universal charger was a great buy and will be soooo useful for ALL your trips !!!:thumbsup2

Sorry I'm a little late, but our computer has been giving us some problems lately.:sad2: But "welcome back" & I'm SO anxious to read all about your magical adventure & to see all of your pix!:yay: By the way, I love Tom's sweater!!!

I really need to find some sort of universal charger too. I have so many I bring along it's kind of pitiful.

If you are dieting, I have to warn you! There is LOTS of food to be seen in this report. ;) Yummy food that is. :lmao:

More coming up shortly. :thumbsup2

Hi Christine!
I had to go back to peek at the plane. :rotfl2: Well, I took that pic sitting in MY plane, which was a bit larger than the one in my photo. ;) But yes, we have travelled on one that size to Frankfurt too.
You know, the snack we got was nice in taste, but it was SO hard and dry. :sad2:

I loved the logo Tom designed. So cute, isn't it?
You usually don't know who will be captain as they change a lot. I have not found one that I didn't like though. ;)

:welcome:
That's not the plane we travelled on. Our's was slightly larger, not much though. :lmao:

The airport in Frankfurt is fairly large and since we stopped to had that early lunch, and looking for the charger time passed quite quickly.
I was so craving chocolate and the croissant was filled with Nutella, so the perfect thing. :cloud9:

Tom's feeling better, but the long hours get to him. I am nearly my old self again. ;)

Thank you, Rosie!
I was SO pleased with the charger, esp. since we have several cameras that we bring and they need a lot of cables and things. That charger charges all of them, so less baggage next time. :thumbsup2

Woo Hoo - you've started :)

:thumbsup2

Sorry I'm a little late, but our computer has been giving us some problems lately.:sad2: But "welcome back" & I'm SO anxious to read all about your magical adventure & to see all of your pix!:yay: By the way, I love Tom's sweater!!!

You are perfectly on time, Mary Ellen. I just started. :goodvibes
We had such a wonderful time, meeting new friends and getting together with "old friends" as well.

I really need to find some sort of universal charger too. I have so many I bring along it's kind of pitiful.
:thumbsup2

Jen, if you carry several chargers, get a universal one. It did not come cheap (but then we bought at the airport ) but I can leave a lot of cables at home now. :yay:

I was trying to get caught up a bit.... there is never enough time. Especially when I get back to a TON of work.

On the chocolates... well, just know that I am conceding to the fact that they will be NO WHERE near as yummy as the ones you brought!

Travel day is off to a great start. Although normally I love the food items on the plane that you get... but those bread sticks look a bit less appetizing.

Catching up on everyones threads is quite time consuming, isn't it?

And you are right on the travel food. I was a bit disappointed when I saw what was handed out. It did have a nice taste, but just a bit too much spice - it made you quite thirsty.
Thank god, we had some better food a little while later. :thumbsup2
