Yes marvel and star wars are a LOT more proven as franchises. What happens if Avatar 2 bombs?

~Defeatism -- at its finest. Avatar's facebook page has 40 million fans and Star Wars has 10 million fans. But, none of this matters, it's the land & the quality of the attraction(s) that count -- a recent example of this is Carsland(???).

~What if Walt had said, "ewww, mice are gross, people don't like mice." We may not have a Mickey Mouse or Disneyland/Disney World, today -- if Walt thought along those lines & quit. Innovation & creativity must supersede fear -- one has to think beyond the "norm" of what may be acceptable. Most people don't know what they want or what they even need -- look at the New Fantasyland, the concept is "perfect", classic, quintessential Disney -- yet, the most of the reviews I've come across are flat, or underwhelmed. Will the new Fantasyland measure up to Harry Potter Phase II? But, this is exactly what everyone "here" wanted, right?

~I can't wait for Avatarland & I'm also looking forward to the new addition of Avatarland on your fabulous blog! AK is my second favorite park!

People don't pay anything to be a fan on of whatever on Facebook. That's why toilet cleaner pages there have thousands of fans.

So let's talk substance.

It is estimated that worldwide about 200 million people have paid to see a theatrical showing of Avatar.

It is estimated that worldwide twice as many -- 400 million -- have paid to see a theatrical showing of Titanic (which I guess means the latter was apparently twice as popular as Avatar, which is why James Cameron missed the boat -- yuk yuk -- by not turning that saga into a franchise.)

It is estimated that worldwide 1.8 billion people have paid to see a theatrical showing of at least one Star Wars film.

Avatar Land isn't amazing - is a bad, bad idea, supported only by those with no vision.

I am sorry I can't stop laughing at the idea of Titanic being a theme park. Smart move on Sea World not to bring that depressing movie into their theme parks. LOL....I hated that movie and actually got up and walked out. I can't fathom the idea of that being turned into a theme park...

I get that many of you don't like the idea of Avatarland/Pandora or whatever they decide to call it. I don't care if the next movies suck. I can say that I had no desire to see the movie, my husband brought it home and asked me to watch it with him and I did. My kids loved it and I actually did too. I think the theme fits perfectly with AK in the aspect of being aware of your surroundings, not to destroy Mother Earth, and to give back to the earth rather than destroy. I am a tree hugger and I am married to an underground coal miner, my DH and I are well aware that there needs to be a balance. However, the message from Avatar truly is powerful and does depict Americans as being greedy and taking what is not theirs and I can see where this can cause political outrage or cause some to be offended but then again look at our history we are notorious for taking what is not ours. I apologize for going off tangent...

I think that there can be a lot of potential for this land, if you don't want to go to it, then skip it. But I think that Disney can make this new theme work even though it's not Disney, I am confident Disney has the magic to make it fabulous.

Of course, I would LOVE a Star Wars land. Heck I would be thrilled with a totally separate Star Wars theme park.

~Let's not -- you & I clearly define "substance" differently, so we're already off to an awkward start. What you have stated below, has been debated on these boards a thousand time before you. You've brought nothing new or insightful to the table, just the same old song & dance. All this translates to is that "you" don't like the movie, big deal. I didn't like the movie either, but I can see beyond that. Just like all the others before you with the exact same "argument," nothing demonstrates why Avatarland would not be a successful addition to Animal Kingdom.

~This is silly and has nothing to do with "Avatarland." A Titanic "franchise" makes no sense to me . Anyway, my position is not Avatar vs Star Wars. Star Wars belongs at DHS, as there is plenty of room for expansion & Star Wars already has a commanding presence in the park.

I agree there are only "if's". IF Avatar 2 is a huge hit then all will be well, IF it's not then there will be a lot of red faces at Disney (or more like a lot of red faced people leaving Disney).

However my concern is over the availability of investment. If Disney invest heavily in "Avatar Land" then its unlikely they'll invest significantly in other WDW parks until they balance their books. Looking back over the past 10-15 years, they tend to be very cautious in the way they invest in their parks (in fact up to the expansion of New Fantasyland the phrase underinvested springs to mind).

Therefore IMO it will be a bad move if Disney invests in Avatar at the expense of its own (and more successful) franchises.

Well thanks for the kind words. We will if course talk a lot about it. Hopefully the attractions r great

Certainly if nothing else Avatarland will keep the park open late and DAK really shines at nite

If it's done right, it doesn't make a difference if the second movie flops. If the movie flops, the merchandising may flop. The park itself need additional content and theme for a new land. The theme can endure, long after the movie fades to obscurity. I felt the movie wasn't particularly good, but the world of Pandora was a feast for the eyes, and that it ultimately what needs to be put in the parks. I think calling it avatarland is a mistake. Calling it Pandora, or some sort of otherworldly land is where it needs to go. Base it on the concept of pandora, but don't make the attractions to closely based on the movie content as that sets you up for disappointment if the new movie tanks.

Oz! Ideas evolve, and IMO this is a no brainier. The potential for Oz theming far exceeds Avatar, and I'm sure there's a lot of people considering whether that's the direction to take this new park.

They two ideas actually have a lot in common, but Oz has WAY more potential.

Oz themed land would be great. MGM grand in las vegas was built with theme idea OZ. That turned out nice

Just got back from a nice vacation in FL. I was visiting a good friend of mine saying avatar land will have 3 attractions. One will be a thrill ride like kind of like soarin. He said think of the moving stage with seats they use at KA inside of mgm grand and a 3D theatear. Others will be a boat ride and a interactive area. Anyone else have any thoughts

The Soarin and boat rides were shown in the leaked plans from a few months ago, and I have also heard rumors of the interactive area. I have also heard rumors of the area being cut back to just one ride.

i too agree oz would be cool but i will say this.... there was an oz land at japans universal studios.... but it was closed down to make way for HP....looked cool youtube oz land universal

Ah, I forgot that the Oz books are in the public domain. And I can see the legal appeal of Avatar, being almost completely original.
