Top 10 Things i learned on our Disney Cruise

Buy your tweens and teens a waterproof watch (and one for yourself) and tell them EXACTLY what time they have to be at dinner, then don't worry about them. If you raised good kids, they are not going to turn into bad kids on the ship.

This is a great thread! We are going on our 5th DCL cruise in a couple of weeks and yet I am still learning things from this thread! :goodvibes

Do not let your husband feed your daughter M&M's for breakfast on the car drive. Not pretty as you hand the agent your id's but a funny story later.

As a courtesy for tipping, don't put the tip on your card. The workers must then claim it on thier taxes. If you give them cash they can "fudge" the tip income a little :)

We've gone on 2 Disney Cruises...here's some of the things that we've learned:

1. Bring pillowcases and sharpies to have autographed...these are the BEST souvenirs for the kids!

2. Buy pins before you leave if you want to pin trade. Again, much cheaper than buying pins on board, and the kids love the hunting!

3. We LOVE decorating the door! We planned ahead for the 2nd cruise and I carried the stuff in a scrapbook 12x12 plastic case, which came in handy to bring all the navigators and paper stuff home.

4. If you are a scrapbooker, ask for stuff at Guest Services...you'd be AMAZED at the things they have just hanging around that they will give you!

5. Bring baggies and order room service sandwiches to bring for a snack on excursions.

6. TURN OFF THE TECHNOLOGY! No one needs your updates until AFTER you are home!

7. Be sure to ask for the galley tour..adults only...on a sea day..free, but you need to get a ticket. And also for the Alice Tea Party...families...free, but need a ticket.

8. Be nice to your servers, room stewards, etc. Tell them what you like...you might be surprised at what you "find" in your room or at your next meal!

9. Order Mickey Ice Cream bars or Mickey Rice Krispy treats from room service...neither are on the menu, but BOTH are available. The Rice Krispy treats are on a stick and the ears are dipped in chocolate!

I'm sure there are more, but that's what I can think of off hand. LOVE THIS THREAD!

hmmm, like what kind of stuff I wonder.

I know this is an older thread, but I had it bookmarked, and after reading thru, there were some good tips, so I thought I would resurrect.

Unexpectedly meeting a character at the elevator can make you feel like a kid again. (In our case it was Timon)

Awesome thread. I love the idea about ordering sandwiches from room service to take on excursions. May I ask, do you order them the night before or will they make sandwiches in the morning that you can use?

Wear your swimsuit under your clothes on boarding day, especially if you get on the ship early like we did. You can't get into your room until 1-1:30 to change and the bathrooms by the pool will be packed with people trying to change themselves and all their kids into their bathing suits. :)

Here are a few of my own "Things I learned on a Disney Cruise":

1. Meeting new people at dinner can actually be fun and enjoyable as long as you keep an open mind.
2. No matter how many times you see the same shows, they are always amazing.
3. I agree that the hair dryers are pitiful. I have waist length hair and if I tried to dry it each day with those "in cabin" hair dryers, I would be in my cabin for most of the cruise:rotfl:
4. Even though the cabins are not very spacious when compared to a hotel room, once you get used to it, it's kind of cozy, especially if it is just you and your spouse
5. The most memorable part of the cruise will probably end up being something you wouldn't expect. On my last cruise, mine was sitting topside with my husband, sipping coffee, chatting and watching Cinderella play on the large outdoor movie screen.
6. No matter how long the cruise is, you are always sad on the last day to be leaving :guilty:

The hair dryers on the Fantasy are great. I know many other cruisers have complained of the hair dryers on the classic ships, but the Fantasy has great hairdryers, no complaints.

Be aware, in many ports you may not take perishable food off the ship. Only pre-packaged snack type foods (granola bars, etc). You could (at worst) be fined, or (at best) just asked to throw it away.

Love this thread!

1. Don't try to do everything on the Navigator. If you miss something, there will be something just as good if not better to do in a couple hours. On our first cruise, it seemed like we were running from activity to activity non-stop. The stress from that and the disappointment from missing something took away from the enjoyment.

2. Realize that different people get enjoyment from different things. Some people seem to live for looking down their noses at people. Some people seem to think that you are on their cruise and must put their wants and desires first. Avoid these people.

3. Let the kids know that this is a Family vacation, not a "kids get what they want whenever they want it" cruise.

4. Convince your wife that you do not need to stand in every picture/character meet line you see. This is good way to lose many hours of your vacation.

Better yet offer to take your wife's picture! I don't seem to be on the vacations I take. It always looks like it my husband and kids' vacation.

hope this isn't a stupid question, but how would you know if you wouldn't be allowed to take perishable foods ashore?

We are on our first cruise next week. Is there somewhere to keep milk cold in the room? Thanks!
