Princess 1/2 walkers?

I never mind sharing! Good luck in your upcoming first 5k! Let us know how it goes! Our time was 3:45:59 - we had trained for 15 min miles and had walked many 14 min miles, but the heat and high humidity killed us northern girls! We were happy to finish and get ours medals!

Thanks for the info! I am doing a run/walk method, but I'm not sure how much of a half I could run. I guess I need to do my 5K and not get too far ahead of myself! lol

I had NEVER done any race before my half marathon. I just put my mind to it and never looked back. I started with the run walk method but found out quickly it wasn't for me. Too hard on my knees and body with all the pounding so decided to concentrate on the walking. It has served me well since then! Good luck on your personal journey to the PHM!

That is kind of what I'm wondering. My knee is okay at 3-4 miles, but I may have to walk more at 13.1! What a big accomplishment for you! Doing a half right out if the gate is amazing!

Thanks JohnVN I really have you to thank! I never would have completed the first one if you had not been so supportive. You gavel advice and strength. So tell us what you're up to these days....

I'm up to no good. :rotfl:

Not really.....

I started the year off with my third Disney Dopey Weekend. Three weeks from this Sunday I have a 70.3 triathlon. A Sprint triathlon in July and September then my BIG challenge, the Ironman Florida Triathlon in November followed by the Space Coast Half Marathon with my 11yo DGS a few weeks later. Going to be a fun year celebrating my 63rd birthday.

Everybody--stay safe, train wisely but above all, have FUN!

Wow JohnVN you are one busy dude!! That's a very impressive schedule! Thanks for checking in here periodically - love hearing from you! Safe training!

Hello, Princess Walkers!

I finished my first Princess Half Marathon!!!

To be honest, I was more than a little worried when I found out that I was in the last corral. The Sunday before the PHM, I walked in a 10K as a way to get into an earlier corral. My 10K time wasn't great so I was tempted to not even ask Race Relations about it. Thankfully, my friend encouraged me to ask and, miraculously, I was bumped up into an earlier corral - E!

So, I was able to walk the entire way, stopping only to snap pictures of all the fun along the route. The course was crowded but, because of the high humidity and the fact that there were lots of racers behind me, I didn't really push to go too fast. I finished just shy of 4 hours....a full half hour slower than I had finished other half marathons.

I had a blast, though, and can't wait to go back.

Thank you, Dreamer and John and Brooke and all of the other walkers for your encouragement this past year. :grouphug: So glad you had a good time with your daughter, D.

P.S. - Dreamer, this Southern girl didn't like the humidity either and was so happy that the sun didn't come out. My friend looked up the weather later and found out that the humidity had been 93%. :scared: We were swimming!

So happy to hear all went well Debbieandroo! Time never matters to me - our medal looks just like and means just as much as the first place medal! Congratulations!!!

Congratulations to all of you that participated in last weekend's Princess 1/2!! It sounds like it was a really fun time but really steamy!!!! I've been loving the pictures I've seen in various locations around the web and hearing the stories has helped inspire me to get back on track. I kind of fell off the wagon after the marathon in January...the cold weather here and my lack of enthusiasm for the treadmill combined with LOTS of job stress had sent me into hibernation mode!!! But spring is coming and there are couple half marathons coming up in my area in a few short months so I need to get back into the swing of things. So thank you to all of you that posted, I love reading about everyone's adventures. I wish I could have joined you but sadly the budget didn't allow for both marathon weekend and the princess...maybe next year. We are looking at the budget to see if we can do wine and dine this year, we've never done a nighttime race before and I think that one would be fun and might help bridge that fall training gap after the races dry up and the weather gets yucky...I really struggled in November and December this year...

Great job everyone!!

Brooke

Hello fellow walkers.....anyone still out there checking here at all? I can not believe this but my daughter and I are planning on signing up again on Tuesday for the PHM & (I can't believe I'm going to type this, let alone actually do it) the GSC! we are also dreaming of our C2C medals in 2014 - which is presenting a big dilemma as far as which race combo and when you can register for them YIKES!!!! Well I hope someone out there is interested in coming back here???? I miss all of you - where are you - what are you doing?

Hi Dreamer! Yes, I still check here, and I am planning to do the GSC with my daughter also. I am also dreaming of the C2C some day and wish it could be this year for the Tink and the PHM, but 2014 is more realistic financially. I am trying hard to increase my running intervals. My goal is to go under 3 hours this year. Now that I have said it "out loud" I am really motivated.

Hello everyone! Good to see you are still around John! I can NOT believe I have been talked into the Glass Slipper Challenge 2014!! OMG!!!
Welcome Keahgirl8 & Pinkflmngo! So glad you are here! Pinkflmng how old is you daughter? Will this be her first 1/2 Marathon? We are in the same boat - which is why we are planning to get our C2C in DLand at the 1/2 Marathon in late Aug/early Sept 2014 instead of Tink in Jan2014 - gives us more time between races to save and dream!! plus Dland is the further one from us so we want to get the C2C medal there! Rundisney just told me the sign up for that will be in Jan2014 (just before Princess) I'm super nervous though.....
Keahgirl8 - have you ever done a 10k then 1/2 next day combo before? You are lucky to be able to do a run/walk combo - I am STRICTLY A WALKER ONLY.
Ihave tried many times to run with the combo but just never can do it - too much on my knees etc....
This will be my 3rd Princess - but the first one with the added challenge (if we get in!?) of the 10k the day before.....I pretty old and approx 20/25ibs over weight right now so I am wondering WHY??? I think this is a good idea???? My daughter has a way of talking me into things....

I've never done a 10k or a 1/2 either, but I'm hopefully registering tomorrow.
I also do a walk/run. Right now I'm at a 14-14:30 pace

We WILL be registering tomorrow! It is my birthday, and I choose not to believe there is any other option.
