We are 4 days from vacation and of course my DS3 and DS 8 months get chest colds/bad coughs Took them both to the doctors yesterday and DS3 got antibiotics. The doctor said both should be fine by then, BUT just in case we have any issues while in Disney(staying on property @ Poly) what do we do? Are their pediatricians in the area? Can we take a cab without a car seat(we are flying). Has this happened to anyone before where you child needed to see a doctor? Thanks in advance.

to answer your second question, yes, you can take a cab without a car seat - we are "those" parents that have done that to and from the airport and also a few times when we were trying to catch a parade or dining reservation and the buses were taking too long. regarding pediatrics, there are SEVERAL urgi-care centers in Orlando area catering to tourist crowd, some exclusively pediatrics, but there are online reviews suggesting some are much better than others (and sometimes the same one gets a good review and a bad one). We had to call 911 for our son last Disney trip (ugh), and the paramedics were great, and they told us the name of one of the good ones to use if we needed to followup (luckily did not), but I forgot the name - I guess I have generally tried to repress that entire episode. You might also check out which national pharmacies are in vicinity, and have your doctor call in an extra refill of needed meds.

Our 18 month old came down with a double ear infection on a previous trip (Dec 2011). Places in the area have vehicles that will come get you free of charge. The first aid nurse at Epcot called for us, but she said the front desk at the hotels have info of one's in the area.

Poor little guys I hope they start feeling at least a little better before yours trip. As far as pediatricians a internet search should show the ones in the area and most should have reviews. Also we are leaving in four days too how long are you guys staying we will be there until the 9th.

When you call for a cab, you can request one with a car seat...at least that used to be true, and I think it still should be. We have done it.

Turner pharmacy delivers to Disney resorts if you just need meds, not sure about doctors.

My husband had a medical emergency last summer while we were at the Beach Club.

The front desk got him the name/address of an ER, and got him a cab there and back--- they even paid for the cab.

When we were pretty certain he would be admitted overnight-- this was our last night in WDW, they gave us the use of the room until 4:30 the next day. The CMs were amazingly wonderful and helped salvage the end of our trip.

(As a PS-- he had broken his finger in a fall at Epcot, and ended up with a Staph infection, combined with scary high blood sugar. He got home, was admitted into the hospital, and spent 5 days there. All is well now.)

No matter what the problem is, someone at the front desk should be able to help. With all the people who pass through those resorts every day, the odds are very good that you're not the first person to ask the question, and that they'll have the answer for you.

Make sure you have the name and dosage of the antibiotic in your purse, probably better to just grab the bottle if you need to go to the doctor.

Why would your pediatrician prescribe an antibiotic for a viral infection? It does nothing, and kills off some good bacteria in the body. Now your kids are more susceptible to a bacterial infection, and WDW is a petri dish for that! Time to change pediatricians, IMO!

I would pack a ton of alcohol-based hand sanitizer, and have your kids wash hands often, and try to keep their hands off their faces. Hope they feel better for the trip, and stay healthy on the trip!

Centra care ( I think that is the spelling) is the urgent care that will pick you up and take you to their facility. They will also drive you back. They were wonderful when our son had a severe strep infection

Officially, drivers of yellow medallion taxicabs and for-hire vehicles and their passengers are exempt from laws regarding car seats and seatbelts. While the Taxi and Limousine Commission encourages everyone in the vehicle to buckle their seatbelts while riding in a cab, there are no rules regarding this. Hence, infants may ride in any taxi at a parent's discretion. Of course, passengers with children are encouraged to bring their own car seats, which the drivers must allow passengers to install. Note that children under the age of seven are permitted to sit on an adult's lap, but that this is considered inadequate by safety experts in case of an accident. I'm going to guess that sense only one of them got antibiotics the DR is quite aware that they won't treat viral infections and something secondary like chest or ear infection was going on with him.

This is exactly what I was going to say and obviously the Dr thought it was necessary to prescribe.

one thing to keep in mind airline can refuse you boarding if FA feels child could be contagous. have had it happen to friends but on way home.

If your little ones get sicker instead of better, I would call your doctor at home. Unless they would need some type of emergency care such as a breathing treatment, he or she should be able to look back at their charts and based on what you tell him, decide if they would need a different medication that he or she could then call into a place near WDW and you could have delivered to the room.
As far as a taxi, we did let DS ride in one without a seat, on property, by age 5 but not before that. Maybe you could gate check the little one's car seat and pack a backless booster in your luggage for the 3 year old. No where near as safe as you want to be but better that nothing.

We've used Centra Care on two separate occassions. On one occassion, my 9 mo old daughter who only had a mild cold developed a REALLY bad ear infection after flying from NY to Orlando. We took her to Centra Care and were very happy, they even billed our insurance so no out of pocket cost for us.
