Wow, that's a nice upgrade! How does overbooking even happen...

That happens?? I've heard May is booked, I will be...um, annoyed (*^%#) should we be bumped a week before our trip!

Thanks, Dee!

I took the opportunity to read through the first few posts again and had a question. It says pool hours are until 10pm, but I feel like I might have seen that this is no longer the case. Can anyone confirm? We're going in off-season, but it will still be hot (Sept), so I've thought we'd like to do some swimming.

Thanks!

Hello! We were there at the end of January/beginning of February and I posted a photo on our last thread of the sign at SAB with hours listed. As you can see from the photo, the part with the hours is detachable. So for our most recent BC/YC stays (and when we had access to SAB due to the BWI pool closure!) . . .

2013 - January/February: closed at 8pm
2012 - October: closed at 10pm
2012 - April: closed at 10pm
2011 - August: closed at either 10pm or 11pm
2011 - February: closed at 8pm
2010 - July: closed at 11pm
2010 - March: closed at 10pm

Sorry, don't know about September specifically, but those closing times are still changing!

She phrased it in a way that made it seem like moving us was not optional, but I'm sure I could have said no. I understand what you man about preferring WL for fall - we were actually there this past fall - but the fact that we are being upgraded to the suite with club level access kind of sealed the deal for me. Also, since the weather is supposed to be on the cooler side (at least last I checked) next week, it won't be such a downer to not be at BC.

Have a wonderful trip. We love WL. The boat to MK is fun, and we love wandering around WL. So many hidden nooks to relax in! Last stay there we were lucky enough to be a flag family.

Hey everyone, thanks for the kind words and imaginary drinks!

Sorry, Ninja Mom, there are not enough bellhops at BC (or even the World) to move over your baggage!

We are a fast moving thread, but things should slow down in the next day or two here after everyone has reported for duty on the new thread.

I'm here jumping on BOARD! Nothing's set in stone yet but my fingers are crossed for Beach Club January 9-12, 2014!

:welcome:

I'll pencil you in on the Be Our Guest list. You can let me know if anything changes.

:cool1:

Thanks Dee, for all your hard work, you are amazing!!! I love lurking here and getting my daily fix of Disney and Beach club info as I patiently (ok not so patiently according to my DH) wait for our trip in May! Just passed our 90 day mark:cool1:

I did notice that our arrival date is off by a couple days, no big deal, though! We are due to arrive on May 25 as long as they don't make us have Saturday school to make up for all the crazy snow days we've been having!

Thanks to everyone for the smiles and laughs you provide on a regular basis!! I just love it here!:grouphug:

I'll make the change.

:thumbsup2

Joining in! Just got confirmation for the second part of my triple split stay in Jan 2014 today :dance3: Tentative plan is BC/AKV/BLT but only AKV is for sure so far!

:welcome:

Sounds like a really magical split stay! I'll pencil you in on the list.

:woohoo:

Thanks so much for all of your hard work...I would truly be lost without these threads :goodvibes Can you please add us to the list...we will be at the YC from 9/12 to 9/17 :yay:

:welcome: back!

Yes, glad to add you to the list.

:cheer2:

Hello all! Joining back in ...the past few months have been crazy, but I am fully-focused on planning our Disney trip again! :cool1: I need to update my dates - we will be at BC June 16-23 (following a mommy and kids week at AKL, I'm not cheating, I promise...I just figured I would never get to stay there as a family of 5 and since there is 4 of us for that leg...I thought I'd give it a go! :rotfl:).
Anyway, just flipping through the pics in the thread and soooooo excited to head back to BC!

:welcome: back!

I'll update your dates.

:cool2:

I am going to try to keep up with this thread now that a new one has started. I've been on some fast moving resort threads, but they don't even compare to this one! We'll be at BC from Sept 27-Oct 5 this year. We booked bounce back with free dining and we are bringing my mom with us. So excited about bring so close to Epcot during Food & Wine Festival. We booked a garden view room, but haven't made any requests yet.

:welcome:

I'll add you to the list. You will love the convenience to the World Showcase!

My recommendation is to request a full balcony, along with any other location requests you may have.

:yay:

Just wanted to pop in to bid farewell. We were supposed to be staying at the BC next week, but the resort is overbooked, and I got a call about being moved today. We were given the choice of Poly standard room or WL deluxe suite. That was a no-brainer, as we will have more space and CL access(!!!) at WL. We also love that resort and really feel at home there. I can't say I'm not a little disappointed as I've had my heart set on BC, but the resort will always be there, and now I get a free chance to experience club level :). I hope all who have an upcoming trip have a wonderful time! Many thanks to Dee and all of the fabulous people who contribute to this board. I'm now off to research WL CL!

So sorry to hear you got bumped, but it sounds like you are making the best of it. I'm glad you will be experiencing club level. Happy researching and if you get a chance when you are back, let us know how the trip was.

Have a great trip and hope you come back to visit us here soon!

Wow! Moved again. It seems I'm always putting in a new bookmark for this thread. I guess I'd better get rid of the two old ones, LOL. Still counting down until our summer stay, but we may have to change plans due to job situations. Crossing my fingers and praying that things work out. I need a little Disney this summer!!!

Fingers crossed for you.

I have jumped and landed. Thank you Dee for all the amazing work you do. I am twice as excited for this trip ( if that is possible) thanks to this thread and all the great people on it.

I just returned from the Beach Club today, so this is very fresh to me. Mind you, we stayed in a Deluxe Room, Club level, so I can't speak for the typical BC room, but the in-room safe is exactly as you described. The size made it useless to us as we were hoping to store our iPads and they were too large for the safe. Additionally, the safe does have a key closure, rather than a combination which wasn't ideal to us either. I'm hoping that the safes will eventually be switched out because they are just archaic and inconvenient.

With that said, our stay was amazing and the resort overall is just a joy to visit. My kids were so sad to leave and I'm already feeling like I need to go back sooner rather than later.

Glad you had a great trip!

I think I will revise my "will it fit" info and indicate that there may be different safe sizes throughout the resort.

Do you mind sharing your room number? Any chance you have pictures to add to the BC Deluxe Room Thread?

I remember eating a great salad at poolside several days on a previous trip. I just looked at the new menus and don't see any. Where could we go to get a chicken type of salad to eat?
Thanks!
Elizabeth

I'm a-DRESSING anyone who has been to the BC/YC recently or is going soon. Could you lettuce know what the salad situation is at The Marketplace and Hurricane Hanna's

(despite the really bad puns, this is a serious request)

We're YC CL with standard view. :yay:
I can't think of a request to attach to the reservation. Is there a location that has less of a parking lot view than another location?

Not sure, but I know some of the YC CL SV rooms have a MK fireworks view. See Janetmom's Trip report for details and a sample of the view from this category. The TR is linked at the bottom of the first post on Page 1.

Thank you for starting the new thread. I have gotten the greatest information here. I was looking at the map that shows the route to DHS and Epcot. Question......I see that there is an entrance to the World Showcase section of Epcot, but what about the Future World area. If the showcase doesn't officially open until 11 how do we get to the front entrance of Epcot for rope drop....is there another path, or do we need to take a bus?

Jan

Others have answered your questions, but I thought I would post the info from the Other Useful Info section. If anyone has anything to add to this, please let me know.

Does anyone know yet if the French Bakery is open during Epcot early EMH? Anyone have a recent times guide???

Also, it sounds like the rope drop info I have listed may no longer be accurate. Should I just get rid of that?

:thumbsup2

How do I get to EPCOT?

Guests of the EPCOT resorts enter EPCOT through the International Gateway. This entrance takes you to the World Showcase, on a path that is in between France and UK.

Thanks for the pictures missyrose and pixeldust and pixarmom!

How do I enter EPCOT at rope drop/park opening?

Guests who enter EPCOT through the International Gateway prior to the park opening time should proceed on the walkway outside of UK and Canada. Cast members are stationed along the way (bridge to France being #1) to guide you through UK and Canada. After you pass the last little cart coming out of Canada you are directed onto the small pathway that leads toward the Fountain of Nations. There you will experience a real rope with CMs and characters milling around. Across from you, maybe forty yards away, are the guests that arrived from the front entrance.

After the countdown, the rope is removed and CMs will escort you to Soarin in an orderly fashion. Usually, you will arrive at Soarin' either at the same time or just a moment or so after those who enter through the main gates.

If you have a pre-opening breakfast scheduled at Akershus Royal Banquet Hall, you will provide your name and/or reservation to a CM at the International Gateway. You proceed through UK and Canada as described above, then continue past Mexico to Norway.

Note: Starting in 2013, the French bakery is now open at 9 am when EPCOT opens, so you also have the opportunity to stop there in the morning for a treat.

However, guests of the BC/YC/BCV who need to be at the front of the park BEFORE park opening (for example, marathon runners or for special tours) will probably need to take a taxi from the resort to the front entrance of EPCOT.

Thanks, Dee!

I took the opportunity to read through the first few posts again and had a question. It says pool hours are until 10pm, but I feel like I might have seen that this is no longer the case. I think you are correct. I have edited my response in the Useful Info post. I would appreciate if a few people would report back with what time the pool closed when you return from your stays.

Like, next week will be a busy week (but perhaps cool weather wise). I would be curious what time the pool actually closes.

Thanks in advance everyone for the help in getting correct info out there.

Can you tell me the hours for Stormalong Bay pool?

Yes, I can!!!

Until recently, the closing time at night definitely varied throughout the year and was based on things like crowd level, weather, etc.

Beginning on February 12, 2012 the official operating hours of Stormalong Bay are 10 am to 10 pm daily.
These hours will be in effect until further notice.

The pool may remain open longer during the summer or other busy times of the year subject to the discretion of the lifeguards on duty.

OK- edit to add- it appears that the official operating hours are not year round. Others have reported that the pool has been closing around 8 pm in the winter (has anyone seen SAB close earlier than that). I also think that the pool stayed open later in the summer. So we may be back to the "old system"

DH and I would love a date night while at WdW and luckily our youngest is finally old enough for the kids' club!
Problem is, now DD is too old...turning 14 in May, which is when our trip is. On our DCL cruise last May she roamed all over, mostly to the teen club, by herself. There isn't anything likethatfor her age at WDW though, right? I would feel fine having her stay in the room and rent a movie, but that is boring. What else can she do there? Is it safe for her to roam the resort alone? Should i just have her stay in the room? DH and I will probably go to DHS for date night.

As others indicated, this is a decision you need to make based on your family's comfort level.

The movie/campfire was a good idea. There should be lots of families around for that.

I don't know the spa hours, but I wonder if there is something like a mani/pedi that would interest her.

Can anyone think of something special to do while in the room?

One thing I may suggest is that she uses main stairways instead of the elevator if needed when she is alone. I would be uncomfortable being in an enclosed space while alone.

One more thing, before I take a break and move on to other things this morning...

I have been adding a few new pictures to the first page posts (mostly to the SAB section, but a few other places too) and I am working on resizing some of the ginormous pictures.

I wanted to let you know that I added a bunch of pictures provided by Missyrose/Pixeldust to Pixarmom's SAB thread. Here is the link to that thread and a direct link to the new photos if you want to check them out:

Many more excellent pictures may be found on the following thread, posted by pixarmom with photos from her August 2011 and January 2013 visit to Stormalong Bay:

******************************************************

Speaking of photos, you guys may all have to talk me off the ledge in a couple of weeks. Changes are coming to Photobucket and me-no-likey! I have heard warnings of limited storage on the new site, which stinks because I had to upgrade to a Pro account, which offered unlimited storage, when I started managing this FAQ. Plus I have a gazillion photos stored for my trip reports.

Please get those Sunken Treasures ready for me!

:scared:

Once again, great info with photos. Thank you. I will be happy to send you a Sunken treasure, but I never give anyone something I haven't tried myself....so you will need to wait until May.:beach:

Jan

This gal takes ONE day off from her YC/BC peeps and this is what she finds......a whole new thread! Are you trying to tell me something?!? :)

Hahaha. Now that I've finally found you...since you weren't in my subscribed folder on the wonderful DISboards app on my iPad (LOVE it!), I'm off to read the first six pages.......

Will someone please hand me my Sunken Treasure? It's right next to my PinaCoolava......

:welcome:

I'll pencil you in on the Be Our Guest list. You can let me know if anything changes.

:cool1:

Pencil away! It will help keep me motivated to save the money I'll need to stay here and use as a bargaining chip when my sister starts advocating to stay at the Grand Floridian instead. I can say "but we must stay at the Beach/Yacht Clubs, I'm on the Be Our Guest List and Dee is way too busy to take me off!" I think that'll work :goodvibes

Hi All - These threads have been a wealth of information. Thank you all for the time and detail you put into it!!! Now on to my questions!!!

I am planning my first trip ever to disney with my family this summer. We are staying at the YC (booked a GV) and I have searched out several maps of the resort and can't seem to find any stairwells marked but I have to believe they exist due to fire codes. Are they located near the elevators?

Second, my only real room request is that we have two queens and a day bed. We are a party of 4 and it won't ruin my trip if we didn't get it (otherwise I would have booked the Poly), but it would be nice. Does anyone know if most of the rooms at YC are this configuration or is it a more even mix of 2Q only and 2Q and a daybed. One website indicated that most of the rooms were 2Q and a daybed with a few kings here and there.

Thanks for all your help!!!

However, guests of the BC/YC/BCV who need to be at the front of the park BEFORE park opening (for example, marathon runners or for special tours) will probably need to take a taxi from the resort to the front entrance of EPCOT.

You've done a great job with the information on this thread, Dee. Thanks for that. :)

We have stayed at BC and have participated in the 5K fun run that they hold on marathon weekend. We were allowed to walk through Epcot to the starting area that was located in an Epcot parking lot. I think the race numbers that we had were the ticket to getting through the gates. :)

I know that Disney provides buses to the race starting place for the marathon and half marathon from the resorts. The runners get picked up in the wee hours of the morning, like 3 am. :coffee:

Our kids participate in the YES program (Youth Education Series) at WDW and last year, our class was at Epcot at 8am. We were admitted thru IG without any problems at all. Rope Drop was at 9am. You are definitely able to enter before Rope Drop at IG. Hope this helps!
