OMG! What time was this... I wonder how long it took them to get that far... And how long it will take then to get to the gate?

ROFL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :lmao::rotfl2::lmao::rotfl2:

Literally, this is the funniest thing ever!! I can see it now, they're staying at one of the Good Neighbor Hotels and make it to DTD...imagine if they go into a store and ask "How much further to the MK?" :rotfl:

That image was taken at the intersection of Photo and Shop.

Many Years ago, I did very similar to what teacher wants to do and it did NOT work well. To cut a corners we stayed at 2 star hotel near 535 and 435. It was 1.7 Miles North East of DTD, and it a "easy" walk mostly on well shaded Plaza Blvd. We took a Airport Limo to get food and to/from the Hotel. We took Hotel Shuttle Bus to/from WDW, but staying off Disney property and no car was a mistake. One day we missed the last shuttle and had to take a taxi. In the end, I saved some money, but not nearly as much as I hoped, and at too great of a inconvenience.

By the way, this was in August.

We walked once from the Hotel to DTD and, though it was morning and we all were in average shape, it was a long 1.7 miles. We also walked from the Typhoon Lagoon to DTD, in the late afternoon, and then after eating, back to the hotel. It made a fun day, into a trek of a day.

As far walking to the Parks, its Impossible, due to the design of WDW. If he is that determined to save on parking, there are unethical ways that do not compromise safety. Though I will not say how it can be done, I rather have him "steal" parking, than risk the life of his family.

I have heard AAA has very limited FCFS Spaces that are free to members. Maybe use a shuttle or Taxi?

Yes, AAA has VIP parking spaces for members. But NO, it's not free. You still need to pay to get into the parking lot unless you are a resort guest or AP holder.

If Disney Security don't stop them, the police will. Because it's just too dangerous in so many ways, they won't allow it. I seriously hope he won't try it, that he in some way will come to his senses before they try setting out on this stupid nonsense.

Aren't those former names of a couple of sections of the Epcot parking lot?

Why, yes.
Yes, they are.

A few years back we had a similar experience. My wife was at a conference for work and staying at Contemporary and then Poly for second part of conference. A worker -trying to overcome annoyance from moving/packing/etc (split stays less fun if unexpected) - told her and her boss that Poly is great b/c you can "walk" to the way to Epcot- what he obviously meant was you can walk to TTC to Epcot monorail, but the boss was insistent they could walk. Luckily I was able to convince them not to try, and then once I was there I made sure to have a real "scale" map showing them it is several miles between ttc and epcot.

I'd be worried this person was my child's teacher.

Forgetting the fact that walking along some of these roads is prohibited (something that should be researched before leaving home), it's kinda' like this teacher wants to compete in an 'Iron Man' competition by first walking an obstacle course before walking a marathon through the Parks.....and then he has to get home.

I have never stayed off site and used hotel shuttles to Disney but there are a lot of negative comments mostly related to finding them full and having to wait over half an hour for the next one. It would not be so bad if you could reserve a time and also they ran extras at the end of the evening until everyone waiting was picked up.

Does he realize - or can somebody get him to understand - that his hotel is two miles from "the 47 square miles that is the Walt Disney World Resort"? That it's not two miles from any theme park?

My dd gave a power point presentation in school today. The subject was Walt Disney World, of course. :) Afterward there was a question and answer session. The teacher told my dd that he was going to WDW this summer with his wife and 2 young children. He has never been there and his wife was there as a child. The teacher told my dd that he was staying offsite about 2 miles away and refused to pay for parking. He has decided that he and his family are going to WALK to the parks!!!! They will be dehydrated before they even get to the entrance. ;) My dd tried to tell him how big WDW is and he insisted they were walking. Sounds like a fun time! :lmao:

HEY, HEY, HEY. I KNEW SOME ONE WHO DID THIS!!! OMG,

A friend of mine is sort of a eco-nut/walker. Think forrest Gump when he walked around the country. Anyhoo, him and his wife do all sorts of things to leave a small ecological footprint on the planet. He bikes 20 miles to work each way, over bridges, in all manner of weather. trash day they may have 1 supermarket bag of stuff. it's amazing.

They went to disney and walked from their hotel every day to DTD. I don't think it was two miles but whenever they go on vacation, they map out how they can "walk" to any attraction.

I'm not kidding and they loved it!!

One thing I have learned guys is that there is some thing out there to float every ones boat. don't knock it.

47 square miles
Walt Disney World plus Celebration together is roughly equal in area to two Manhattans, or a squarish area from the ocean to the bay that encompasses San Francisco at the north end of that peninsula.

Celebration, in the opposite quadrant if you split the environs into four parts using Rte. 192 and I-4, was originally part of WDW.

Better not to argue with the teacher (or anyone else). Better not to repeat the same thing twice unless specifically asked. Quickly move on to the next subtopic. Let them find out for themselves.

I find it odd that there is so much teacher bashing on here based on what a parent said her child said about what the teacher said.

Perhaps the teacher was trying to be funny, perhaps the child misunderstood, perhaps...a hundred different things. I can completely seeing the teacher making a joke about walking--trying to be funny. Sometimes kids don't pick up on sarcasm or humor.

To say things like this:
I'd be worried this person was my child's teacher
and
if you decide to help this "teacher" at all
and calling him a bully, based on the original post strikes me as really unfair.

My five and seven year old have come home with all sorts of things they claim happened at school. As a teacher, I've also heard some doozies. If I was really concerned, I would contact the teacher to get clarification. As teachers often say, "Don't believe everything you hear from your kids that they say happened at school, and I won't believe everything they say happens at home."

If people really think that this teacher is not fit to teach children based on a casual comment in class (about walking to Disneyworld of all things), then I think that's really sad that there is so little trust in our teachers.

Well, walking to DTD completely different from walking to the parks. Obviously it depends on what hotel they stayed at. But the difference is that there's sidewalks from most hotels surrounding DTD to DTD. There's no way you can walk safely from a hotel to the parks unless you're actually staying at a resort that's right next to the park.

My wife is a teacher, and when I told her this, she thought he was nuts.

I don't understand the "unfair" part. He volunteered the info, and he's in a position of public trust. If he's concerned about perception, he should have qualified that he was kidding. If he's serious, I think he's opened himself up to whatever criticism follows for what he's going to drag his kids through.

Its pretty obvious only one of two things are at play here: 1. He was kidding, or 2. He's grossly uneducated about navigating WDW. There's been nothing to indicate he's #1, and everything to indicate #2.
