Any experience getting a 'free upgrade' at a Resort - strategies...:)

10 days til Contemporary...we have a tower theme park view. Totally happy with that. Wondering if there's a strategy to get bumped up to a park view or better if there are available rooms. I plan on asking what upgraded rooms are available upon check in (won't be asking for 'free', just in general). Hoping that they say yes, but then don't charge us...

Any magic to this? Any experience getting bumped up at the Contemporary or elsewhere?

Thanks!!

It rarely happens and you're more likely to NOT get an upgrade if asking for it. You already have TPV, if you want CL then expect to pay for it.

I might be willing to pay for it once they tell me the price differential on the day of check in - just curious to see if there were those with experience of the upgrade taking place at no charge. I don't plan on asking for a 'free upgrade'!

You already have a TPV room, that's as upgraded a view as you can get at CR. So you're asking if they will bump you up to CL. It's possible. But likely not. Enjoy your view of the castle.

The best strategy seems to be just asking "how much would it cost to upgrade to club level?" or whatever it is that you're looking for. That seems to be the method that CMs prefer.

Be aware, though, that complimentary upgrades are not as common as they appear to be on these boards. Most are assigned in advance of your arrival, for the resort's operational reasons (overbooking, etc). There's no strategy in this case, it's simply a matter of you happening to book a room that the resort needs to free up for the dates that you happen to be there. Pure luck.

On occasion, the front desk CM will be able to give an upgrade at check-in, at their discretion. This is less common than the pre-assigned upgrade, and the CMs do prefer to surprise guests. Which is where the "how much would it cost" method works in your favor. If the CM can do a complimentary upgrade, they can say "no charge", and make your day. If they can't do a free upgrade, no problem, they just quote you a price.
