What will you read?

When I was preparing for my cruise last year, there was a great thread about recommended reads. One of my favorite parts of a sea day is relaxing with a good book. Any suggestions?

I just read Touch and Go, by Lisa Gardner and I liked it. I am now going back to read the previous books with these characters.

Are you a member of GoodReads.com? It's like a social network for book lovers! You rate books, and then it gives you recommendations based on what you like and don't like! Also, you can compare what books you read with what your friends read! When you add a book, it shows you which of your friends have read that book and what they rated it. I find it a great place to get recommendations!

My favorite place to read is on the Deck 4 jogging track. It's always very quiet, very secluded, and has a great view of the ocean!

By the time I'm able to go on my next cruise, I'm sure Diana Gabaldon's new book in the Outlander series will be out, so I'll read that.

I've downloaded Pirate Latitudes to my Kindle for my April 2013 Eastern. It was written by Michael Crichton, but wasn't published until after his death.

Steven Spielberg reportedly has the movie rights, but there doesn't appear to be anything immediately on the horizon.

Anyway, I liked several of Crichton's other books and this seemed a like a very appropriate cruise read! pirate:

I have two books for the cruise. "It's Kind of a Funny Story." by Disney Imagineer Rolly Crump and The President's Club by Nancy Gibbs. Neither are fiction, but I've really been looking forward to reading both.

I have the girl came home on my Kindle for the trip unless I get to it before then.

I loved all the "Outlander" books and, like a PP, am eagerly awaiting the next installment. Definitely worth checking out if you have not read them. Each book is 800+ pages long, so you get a lot of bang for the buck! I'm currently reading the third book of the "Into the Wilderness" series by Sara Donati, and they're great as well.

Have you read the "short" stories as well? The Lord John novellas are brilliant and perfect if taking on such large books seems daunting.

Hotel New Hamphsire by John Irving and
Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides are 2 great books!

Enjoy your cruise!

I love this series, but I always feel like I have to go back a book or two each time a new book comes out :confused3

If you have a Kindle device, I suggest Finding Rebecca by Eoin Dempsey. I stayed up until 3am one night to finish it because I couldn't wait to find out what happened next. It has some dark parts (it is "A novel of love and the Holocaust"), but I thoroughly enjoyed the story.

I've read "A Leaf on the Wind of All Hallows," but not any of the Lord John novellas. I will add those to my (long) reading list! Lord John really had to grow on me, but I think I'm at a point where I would enjoy reading some stories with him as the central figure.

I read all of the Outlander books in 2012, so I'm hoping I'll be able to pick right up where I left off! It would have been helpful if the book had come out this spring, though, which is when I read last year sometime that it would. Apparently it's been pushed back until fall.

I do have a Kindle and will check out "Finding Rebecca."

The Nikki Heat books by author "Richard Castle" are fun reads. Don't be confused if you see Nathan Fillion's picture on the back cover of the book, because he IS Richard Castle! Check out the Posters on the walls of Studio Sea - Castle is one of them.
  • Heat Wave
  • Naked Heat
  • Heat Rises
  • Frozen Heat

If you watch Castle on ABC you might see some similarities between the stories and the show, because the books are "based upon" the tv series, but the books are stand alone.

I'm sorry to say I didn't like A Casual Vacancy and I wanted so much to like it because I wanted to see JK Rowling succeed at something besides Harry Potter--which I loved--all of them. I started the book when it came out, and I just couldn't make myself sit down and finish it. I finally finished it about a month ago--and I am a fast reader. I was just disappointed, I guess.
