Boarding time with San Juan cruises?

Anyone care to guess what time that will be?

I will probably fly in the night before as I really dislike San Juan and want to minimize my time there. I've also considered flying in first thing the day of the cruise and just waiting at the terminal. The pessimist in me probably won't allow me to do that, in worry that something bad happens with my flight though...

If the ship leaves at 1900, when would you guess we'll be allowed to board?

Oh, and I'm gold status if that makes any difference.

I believe the all aboard time is 4:00 pm. I would be to nervous to fly in the day of cruise. Can I ask why you don't like San Juan ?

I think its dirty and nasty. And they treat animals horribly. Many years ago, when it was discovered that the way the dog warden dealt with street dogs in San Juan was rounding them up and throwing them off a cliff, I vowed that there were far better places to spend my vacation money.

While it is unfortunate that the incident of throwing dogs down cliffs is true, I lived in PR for some time and have been to San Juan too many times to remember and the area of Old San Juan which is where the ships are departing from, have a lot to offer and feels like you are stepping back in time with its beautiful scenery. I am a huge animal rights activist and when I heard this story it broke my heart, but unfortunately PR is not the only place where animal cruelty is practiced. We have horrible cases right here in the USA. I mean no disrespect and hope you do not take this the wrong way, but it feels like you have very strong feelings about San Juan and I do not understand why you would choose to travel to a place you dislike so much if you feel the way you do even if its just for a couple of hours. That would just have me on edge which how you sound. I hope everything works out the way you plan. As for boarding and departure it seems like it will be later than what it is here in Cape Canaveral. Good luck with your travels.

It says all aboard at 7pm. I wonder if it will be handled like it was on our med cruise out of barcelona. There the all aboard time was 9 or 10pm but you had to be on at 4pm for safety drill then where allowed back on.

They pretty much have to do the drill at the normal time so it doesnt interrupt with First seating dinner and such.

I'm confused, do you mean allowed back off? As in people did the safety drill then got back off the ship before re-boarding at 9 or 10? Because that would be interesting...

Yes, everyone had to be onboard for the muster drill. And then could get off as long as they were back on by the all aboard time.

Oooooh...that sounds fun! The 1st night's show is always kinda meh...it's alot of talking and 2 songs.

Thanks for letting us know...

Anything worth seeing around the port? I mean, I guess I can at least run out and buy some wine/water from the port's wine shop right?

Of course I understand that animal abuse happens everywhere. I live in the southeastern US, and am sickened every day by the things I see and hear here.

My husband and I are experienced scuba divers and have spent a lot of time vacationing on multiple islands in the Caribbean. I'm very interested in this cruise because it stops at a couple places I've never visited. (St Kitts & Granada) and because I enjoy DCL. I did not chose it because it sails from San Juan and quite frankly would have been happy to pay the extra $$ for a longer cruise and a sail out of Ft Lauderdale or Miami.

I'll have to make a decision to whether I'll book the first flight of the day into San Juan or spend the night somewhere near the port. Either way, it's just a spot to sleep to me.

I do have strong views on preventing (and not rewarding) animal cruelty. Among those, I don't buy Nike, I buy vegan and not tested on animals beauty products and I don't have any interest in dropping cash on San Juan...

Question about the early check in. Do we have to debark? It's a great option for those who want to, but I'd prefer to just stay on the ship. Is that an option?

You may not have any interest in "dropping" any money in SJ but I know there will be other tourist people that will love to visit my lovely and less than perfect hometown..:beach:

No you dont have to debark once you are on. Actually you wont have to debark til lthe end of the cruise if someone never wanted to get off.

We've never been to San Juan and we're very excited to drop some cash there! My wife and I are going on the last Puerto Rican eastern on 4/20/2013 and we also booked one of the 2014 Southerns out of San Juan.

We can't wait to try some authentic Puerto Rican cuisine (we're told it's very similar to Cuban) as well as see the castles and other sites. I'm sure we'll come back with a souveneir or two.
