DCL Cake Orders

This is what I want to know too. I have tried their specialty cakes and numerous cake desserts, but Im wondering if the special order ones with butter cream are better and worth it.

I think the special order ones will be better. Since they have so many choices, and are "special order", they won't be made in advance....more than a day, anyway, so they should be tasty. The price is really out of line...WOW....but, we do some pretty crazy things for our kids, right?

I did taste one special order wedding cake, that was buttercream as opposed to having fondant, and it was very good.

Does this count?

Is cake of the day free?

The cake of the day is free, but be just so you know, it's not always a cake. On our cruise in October:
One day it key lime pie, one day it was carrot cake, one day a fruit torte, and one day it was a cheese cake.

Still fun though!

I'm sorry...I totally forgot about this one.....this was one of the special order cakes, for a birthday. Summer 2011. Sorry I don't have a picture of it out of the box. Flavor was "okay". I think kids would like it. But I should also say that I'm not crazy about very many of the desserts onboard. I think something is lost, flavor-wise, when they're mass producing desserts.

Are you sure that was a special order cake and not the one that used to be included in the Celebration package? It looks just like the one that came with the Celebration package.

That picture is exactly what we got with our pre-ordered celebration package with decorations and magnet on the MR last April. Our cake was delicious; I wonder if it depends on the chef assigned to the order?

I was pregnant so I had decided the price of the package was worth it if we got a cake along with me not having to put up decorations with a baby belly in the way. Now it's just the decorations, which is ridiculous.

My wonderful family ordered me a birthday cake while on the Fantasy earlier this month. It was a carrot cake with white frosting and all 10 of us at the table thought it was moist and deeeeelicious!! There was not a crumb left and this was after we all had dessert......

We ordered one of the special order cakes, and it was good! We got a 10" marble cake with chocolate mousse filling. It was moist and not crumbly or frozen tasting at all - everyone loved it!

The only complaint was that it was a bit too sweet to have a third piece.... :rotfl:

I will see if I can find a picture.

I honestly couldn't say for sure. You're probably right, though. It's just packaged differently than the ones in previous years.
Before this, the cakes all looked the same and just came on a plate, not in a box. So I thought this was the newer one. But I don't remember if it was included in the decoration package I ordered, or if it was separate. :confused3:crazy:

In 2011 that would have been the cake that came with the Celebration package. The cake has been eliminated from the package within the last year.

Agree...I tried looking at the date on the order form, but it was updated last month, so I knew that wouldn't help me.

SORRY!!!

Wow! thanks everybody! I am feeling a lot better and at ease in ordering a cake. This would actually be for my sister who is a sweet tooth, so Im sure she will like it, but I want everyone else to enjoy it too. A simple butter cream frosting and filling would do for us. We have had some at Disney World and love them, if they are the same ones or pretty similar, then we know everyone will enjoy. Can't wait to see some photos! Thanks again! :thumbsup2

SORRY!!!

I looked at the info that's posted in the FAQ sticky and the pricing info there is from early 2011 and the little cake is not listed on that form.

I've ordered the in room birthday celebration package for my hubby and it doesn't come with a cake
Do I need to sneakily tip off our servers that it's DH's birthday so that they can embarass him with a rendition of Happy Birthday :rotfl:

Anyone know if you can get a special order gluten-free birthday cake? My DD will turn 11 on our next cruise and she has celiac disease.

I think you can, but not 100% sure. I would call and ask. I know they accommodate special food needs.
