Even though the race is still over a year away its never too soon to talk about our happily ever after and how we're training to get there. So, step right up and introduce yourself. Tell me what races you're doing in the next year, how you're training and if this will be your first half or not! I'll start us off!

I'm Emily and I'm excited to be planning a trip for my first runDisney race! This will be my fifth half marathon (as of right now.) In the next year I'm hoping to run twelve races. So far I'm signed up for a 10k, a 5k and two half marathons. As the weather gets warmer here in CT I'm hoping to add to my race calendar.

Can't wait to earn my crown! princess:

Me me meeee!!! I'm new to ALL of this, but want to walk (maybe run some??) this race next year!!!! Just started a 5k program, so there's still lots of work to be done. Good thing I have a whole year!!

Are the dates set for this yet??

Welcome, welcome! Good luck with your 5k program! Can't wait for you to finish your first race- it's the best feeling ever!

Yes, the dates are set! My sister told me what they were so I'll have to double check with her and let you know.

I'll be running in 2014! :cool1: I'm currently training to run the W&D is November, so I'm hoping to get a couple of Disney races under my belt. :hyper:

My goal is to do the Princess Half in 2014. I thought I saw
something that showed it being the weekend of Feb 21-23, 2014.

I've never done a half before and really plan to walk most of it. I've
had two knee surgeries and am not interested in having a third. I know
that I could walk/run it within the time period and think the
Princess Half sounds like fun.

Do you think other people walk/run it? I hope I
won't be alone.

I'm running it! I ran the princess in 2012 and I've taken a year off but I'm determined to run the princess again next year. It's such a fun race. I'm also trying to convince my hubby to do the food and wine half or the tower of terror ten miler this fall too. He has a terrible schedule and is currently job hunting so were on the fence about committed for sure. So excited to have a group of gals to chat about training and the race!

Patty

"Is it ok to speed walk?"

I know lots of people walked it in 2012 and as long as you can meet the minimum time requirement (I think it's a 15 minute mile? Correct me if I'm wrong) you'll be fine. I do think you'll probably want to forego character pics if you're exclusively walking though. Good luck with your training!

It's a 16 minute PR. They suggest training for a a 15 minute mile, though, to compensate for potty breaks and character meets.:lovestruc

I won't be running next year, but I started the c25K program on March 1st of last year and am running the PHM this weekend. You can do it!

Good luck to all of you starting this journey. It's been a year of highs and lows, and while I am SO excited that race week is finally here, I'm also sad that this journey is coming to the end.

Admittantly, I've never done a Disney race before. However, I'm sure lots of people walk. As long as you keep the pace and don't get swept up I'm sure you'll have just as much fun as the runners!

One thing to keep in mind would be to stay to one of the sides while you're walking, and if you're in a group walk single file. You don't want people running into you, and runners don't want to get stuck behind you!

Hello all ! I am in to do the Princess Half in 2014. I did it in 2011 with 2 friends and it was a really great weekend! I did the Tower of Terror 10 miler last September with my oldest son, who runs track and cross country for school, and my husband. Our son clearly kicked our butt. Lol. I ended up walking the bulk of The Tower of Terror since my knee was really bothering me. I've done 3 5K's this year but walked a good portion of them. I'm looking to start the couch to 5K again to get me moving! I am doing the Color Run in May and that's pretty much it. There are always 5K's around so I'll probably do more of those before the race! Looking forward to getting to know everyone and hear all about your training! :)

Hi ! I walked/ran the Princess Half in 2011 and there were a TON of women doing that. My 2 friends ran it and left me behind but everyone is SUPER friendly so I talked to strangers the whole way. It really was a female empowering race! :) so, no you won't be alone!

I am! This will be my first half marathon. I am just getting into running. I have done a couple 5Ks before but they were a LONG time ago. I just had bunion surgery on both feet over the past six months with the second foot just 7 weeks ago. I am slowly starting to walk on the treadmill again. I plan on taking it slow for now but then training more after a couple more months and trying to get in a few more races. I am already so excited about this and it is still a year away. I love having this goal to work towards. :goodvibes

You can do this and you definitely won't be alone! I had 8 knee operations before my 40th birthday and started walking for my 45th birthday goal of walking a half marathon which I not only finished, but it got me hooked on racing. I love the personal challenge and more importantly all the great people I meet at races plus on these boards.

Since that first hometown half I have moved onto run/walk, finished over a dozen half marathons here, at Disney and several other fun spots. Just last month, 3 weeks after my 52nd birthday, I completed another personal goal with my first full marathon bringing home the 20th anniversary Mickey medal.

Remember there are lots of great people on this board if you have questions, want to share your victories or just need to vent. This is an awesome community.

Good luck and enjoy your journey!

I'm in! I started running last August with my best run at 5.5 miles with a 14:09 pace (not bad for a princess that needs to lose a lot of weight and started with a pace between 17-18 min.)

Princess 2014 will be my first half as a way to celebrate turning 35 in September.

Unfortunately training has not been going great lately. My mother watches my kids for my runs as my husband works nights but she has been hospitalized for the last few weeks. She is getting better and getting short term rehab but it will still be a few more weeks till I can get back out there.

Glad it is a year away though cause I will definitely need it!

Hoping to be back next year, praying for better weather and to not be stuck at Coronado Springs for the expo.

So glad I found this forum. I want to do the Disney Princess next year and trying to convince a couple of my girlfriends to do it with me. I just started running again as I am trying to get healthy and lose weight. I'm excited as I am a big kid at heart and I love Disney! Plus I live less than 2 hours away. Currently I'm on week 5 of the Couch 2 5k. Doing well and plan on doing my first 5K in a couple of months. My goal is to lose about 80lbs, so between my cardio, running, and chasing my toddler I should be good to go! Looking forward to running my first half in a tiara! :yay:

Glad to see everyone is already as excited as I am! Only one year to go, ladies!

Hoping to be back next year, praying for better weather and to not be stuck at Coronado Springs for the expo.

How was the weather? And the new expo location? Would you mind telling us a little bit about this year's experience? I'd love to hear!

I am in!! I am new to running and signed up for ToT 10 miler & 5K in Oct, and will be doing Princess 1/2 in 2014!!

I'm so jealous- I'd love to run ToT and go to the villain after party! Unfortunately, I'm a broke college student who can't afford that many trips :confused3
