Is this a good price for a Vancouver 4-star?

Hi,
After spending the day researching & finding very widely ranging prices, I have decided to Hotwire our pre-cruise night from Vancouver this June. Can anyone tell me if I should jump on a $159 rate for a 4-star in Downtown/Coal Harbor area? Seems like a good rate until I see that some folks have been getting Pan Pacific for as low as $130. We are going in early June so I don't know if that low PP rate is for an "off season" time or if I just need to be patient.

After a quick check on Priceline that is the normal price for a 3 star on Friday night in June, 4 star starts at $228. Maybe someone from Vancouver will see this and answer that knows the area.

Where did you see the Pan Pacific for $130?

If it was on here it might be from 2011.
That is the last time the Wonder sailed out of Vancouver.

I got the Pan for $184 a night for our pre cruise stay this year ( Sunday night in Aug. ) with the entertainment card rate.
We really want to stay there and don't want to risk HOTWIRE. So a little bit more, but we are guaranteed to be where we want!
The price I got is $70 cheaper then the online price of $254 a night.

Check it out! Most hotels will give a great rate with the entertainment card( we got on eBay for $5.00) but you need to phone them for a price.

I guess that means that Hotwire gives better deals??? We did get the Pan for $135 for a 4 1/2 star but that was for July 2011. I would expect it to be a little higher now. You might be getting the Sheraton Wall for that. We got it for our first night in town at 4 stars for around $140/145 in 2011. That was a very nice hotel also with large rooms.

I have not seen the Pan Pacific deals yet this year that people were getting back in 2011. Been keeping my eye on Hotwire for about a month and a half now. In fact, I have not seen any 5-star hotels on Hotwire at all yet.

We were able to book a hotel through Priceline for $145/night - we got the Westin Grand, which is an all-suite hotel in the Robson St./Granville/Yaletown part of the city...so right downtown, but not walking distance from the port. Seeing as we are staying during Canada Day/4th of July weekend, I thought this was a pretty good deal (time will tell as more and more people book hotels for this summer, though!). We will have a standard suite with a kitchenette and one queen bedroom.

Someone on our cruisemeet thread booked their hotel through Hotwire not long ago, and they also booked a 4-star hotel in the downtown/Coal Harbour area...it was the only one shown in that category and came in at about the same price - $150/ish per night. They got the Hyatt Regency (so closer to the port than us, but a few dollars more, not a suite). Again, this is during the weekend before the 4th of July cruise.

I hope that information is helpful to you as you make your decision! Maybe some others who booked the Pan Pacific back in 2011 can chime in about how far in advance they were able to book their rooms.

OP, I've been wondering the same thing too. We sail June 3 and are only booking June 2nd in Vancouver. I've never used Hotwire before.

The prices for hotels on priceline and hotwire generally go up and then drop as the date of travel approaches. You might want to check sites like www.betterbidding.com to see what prices people are getting on hotwire and priceline. They can also help you figure out what hotel you are going to get if you bid on a hotel where they list amenities and number if stars.

They can also give you a guess when you will get the best price.

I booked our 7/22-26/2011 stay at the Pan on Hotwire on 5/21/11. I was wrong about the stars. It was a 5 star and had a 90% approval rating.

I would say wait until tomorrow. I booked my May Vancouver hotels with hotwire. I noticed that on the weekend they are higher. Also, you can tell which hotel it will mostly be.

There was a Repo Cruise last year in September that left Vancouver. You might find more up to date info on it.

Sorry, I don't know the prices of hotels downtown.

Sorry for the quick previous reply. Here is the rest. I used Hotwire.com to book for Vancouver in May. I have been doing some research, and I am not certain, but it seems to me that the hotel you will get is actually listed under, "see hotels in this class". What I have found is if I compare the listed hotel on hotwire to Expedia and pick all the amenities, area, star rating, and guest approval, you can find it on expedia. Like I said, I am not certain, but it seems like it to me. I have booked three hotels for our May cruise (Seattle, Vancouver, Seattle). Two out of three I figured it out (which hotel I would get). The third one was down to two hotels (they were very similar) and I guessed the wrong one. There is also a website that helps with telling what hotel it might be, http://www.hotwirerevealed.com/

Guess I should have also added, we got Coal Coast Harbour Hotel. For May 25-27, it was listed as 4 stars, 95% approval rating. It cost $138.10 with all taxes.

We stayed at the Coast Coal Harbour in August and were really pleased with it. They were super family friendly and the room was beautiful. It was quite close to the cruise ship terminal. We live about an hour from Vancouver and stay there quite often for weekend trips if we can find good deals. I would be quite happy with that rate for a four star in Vancouver. There will always be someone who finds something better, of course, but anything under $150 for a property like that in a good location is really good.

I used hotwire and did a four-star for around the same price and it was the Hyatt Regency.
